Heading to the Braves-Pirates game at PNC in a few hours but just FYI, a really nice column about Chipper in this morning’s Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about how much Chipper has been calling Adam every week to try and help his old friend break his slump.
I hope Adam gets the ship righted…starting tomorrow.
Hope all Braves Journal posters have called their moms and wished them Happy Mother’s Day. 🙂

AAR,
From last night’s post, yes, definitely try and track us down. Cary and some friends are joining me for the Wednesday night game. Tuesday’s game I am going with my wife and some friends of ours.
I no longer have to worry about paying for a Nats ticket again, thankfully…my new company not only has 4 seats to all games, but one of the officials inside the Nats offices is in fact an old boss of mine from a job I had several years ago when we both lived in Tampa.

Hey I know this is a day late, I just wanted to post some notes from last nights game from the seats.
As soon as I saw Chipper step out of the dugout I knew he was out of the lineup. He took no BP, didn’t field, and walked like he was 98 years old. I kinda felt bad for him.
Pena took BP and fielded – he looks game ready as soon as his DL stint is up. Wickman was also in the house, as was Berry (who went to sign autographs to the confused looks of everyone).
Diaz handed out mad autographs, as did McCann and Francoeur to us lucky folks who got their early behind the dugout. My girlfriend’s life was made as he signed her Frency BP style jersey, right on the number.
The real man of the day was Chipper though. Perhaps knowing he wasn’t going to be able to go, he signed the entire length of the right field line, even after BP had ended, and his teammates emerged in their gameday jersyes, he was still signing and taking pictures. It was a standup thing.
As far as watching from the seats (ten rows back, behind Braves dugout, first base side). James didn’t look to be Cy Young, but was unhittable until the Parontosaurus came in to blow things up. He’s the only Braves player with nothing to celebrate.
Hats off to Thorman. I knew with the way the wind was blowing a lefty with some power could have a big day, and THORman delivered. Willie Mays Hays Harris is continuing to impress, and for awhile there the entire game was a joke. The 36,000 crowd, made up of mostly Pirates fans (when I go to Cincy its mostly Braves fans) didn’t have any trash to talk until Paronto came on.
In the eighth inning, they had one hit and three errors. But hey, there’s nothing like a series against the Pirates to get your swing back.
Note for the kids: when tossing baseballs to players to sign, do so one at time.
That’s 27 hits the last two games. This is a Braves team that is actually fun to watch. Good luck today, and Happy Mothers Day everyone.
Davey – I get one more chance in Cleveland on June 16th, after that it may be another Chipper-less year because I’ll be starting grad school the day the series at Cincy starts in August. In the long term, it’s better for hid health, but why can’t a guy want to see his childhood/present day hero on the field?
Lastly, PNC is a great park for anyone wanting a road trip sometime.
Great stuff Kyle, and I also didn’t get to see Chipper play when he came to St.Louis, instead I saw Betemit. But unlike your game, we lost on, of all things a David Eckstein walk-off, I believe it was a grandslam but I could be wrong.
All I can remember is, the pitching match-up was Jorge Sosa vs Mark Mulder, Sosa pitched very well, then Farnsworth came in, throwing 99. Come to think of it, it might have been off of Farnsworth. Oh and I remember Francoeur hit a homer.
I’m going to try to go to one or two of the games when they come this year.
It was off Reitsma. He homered to left, and it barely cleared the wall. Truly a David Eckstein…

Going out for Mother’s Day lunch but I should be back in time to watch some of the game. It’s fun to see the Braves win but its almost more fun to see them when in the last 3 innings. I’d always love to see more 2-out RBIs though.

*win…my brain is starting off a little slow this morning.
PNC is a cool park, for sure. Did the Braves 4-game series there, back in ’05. Couple of decent bars in the immediate proximity, plus the Andy Warhol Museum, which I recommend.
Let’s keep whippin’ up on the NL’s bottom-feeders. Braves are 24-12, and I heard Pete on the radio last night mention that it’s one of the best starts the Atlanta Braves have ever had. (I forget which ATL team was the best.) Amazing, considering some of the teams we’ve seen in the past 16 years.
Even the ’82 team, which won its first 13 games, weren’t 24-12 after 36—they were 23-13.

Jay10,
You’re correct. I remember that clearly. But I don’t remember who it was hit off of.
How could you not have this video on Mother’s Day? Haha
All I can remember is, the pitching match-up was Jorge Sosa vs Mark Mulder, Sosa pitched very well, then Farnsworth came in, throwing 99. Come to think of it, it might have been off of Farnsworth. Oh and I remember Francoeur hit a homer.

And I guess the pitcher was Carpenter, that’s right, Mulder pitched when I saw the Brewers game.

Hey Adam – look at my thumb!
is it mother’s day or canada day? petey looks lost.
No – it’s just every day for ol’ Petey.
Another lead-off walk…
Did he just walk the .164 hitting Huckleberry? This is going to be a long game…..
what is this new dirt ball that pepe is pitching…it doesn’t even make it to the plate.
there’s a strike
Nice play by Thor.
Whew. Way to get around the walk to LaRoche.
Chris Duffy is very very bad.
Nice recovery.
Nice pitching–a very encouraging inning. Now lets get some runs….
“Chris Duffy is very very bad.”
Which is why you don’t walk him to start off the game.
Did Lerew actually hit that ball to the warning track in dead center? Gameday had it there.
Harris–has become one of our best offensive weapons–lets enjoy it while it lasts….
Joe Simpson wishing happy mother’s day all game long is starting to get old, fast.
Yes…Lerew hit that pretty well.
Can anyone explain to me why a parot is a more fitting mascot for the pirates, than say . . . a pirate?
They have an actual Pirate mascot called “Jolly Roger”.
Ah thanks, everyone needs a stupid green parot as a supplement to your real mascot. Makes sense.
Because the Pirates traded thier pirate mascot to the Spongebob Squarepants show for 25 bucks and a jug of old kentucky mash.
Lerew need sto bear down….
sour mash, actually.
Twin-killing a good way to get ready for Jason Bay…
These walks are a very bad sign. Traditionally, Lerew walking people has been followed by Lerew giving up three-run homers.
I think Lerew has more power in his swing than Orr. Might be a better pinch hitter too.
Instead of bothering with the first at bat, why don’t we just concede first base to the first batter.
Not a 3 run HR, but yes the walks are once again a problem for Lerew…
Alex sent me a picture… hold on a minute.
Here we go:
Damn!

Pete Orr just killed this game.

Sweet play by KJ.
