Didn’t someone say the definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? It’s not as if this was a WS team to begin with, so why would anyone think we’d magically run away with the division? And why is that even the goal? We need major changes, and I’m afraid we have too many “nice guys” to part with.

Exactly on Thorman. He has nothing left to prove in the minor leagues, IMO. He couldn’t be any worse than Jordan and at least as good as Laroche, with likely better defense. Of course Mickey Hatcher with that giant glove on that old baseball card could play better D than Beaver Chin Laroche.

ok, I was reading the article on Baseball America about Cody Johnson, and the following phrases just pop out like it is from the book written by JS: “Good makeup, combined with an excellent work ethic”
Hope this pick will work out. The Braves are indeed lacking depth in the minor at first base and outfield.
I have been really negative for several games now, but even I have hope that our long national nightmare has to end and I think we take the next 2 nights.
HoRam has looked incredibly good his first few starts and I personally think it’s worth noting the fantastic job Roger McDowell has done with him. Not to say that Rog is a better pitching coach then Leo, but in this 1 case, it appears (so far) Rog has done the better job with HoRam.
(I also hadn’t realized Horam’s cut fastball was such a problem?)
And with the Smoltz-Ramon Ortiz match-up tomorrow, we HAVE to win that one.
So yes, mr. negative is mr. positive asnd we get back to .500 the next 2 nights and I hope, we begin to rebuild our confidence as a team.
I still think the team should consider sitting down as a team and discussing MORE then just who their player Rep is–that’s downright embarrassing.
By the way, does anyone have an E.T.A. on when Brian McCann is due back? (is it safe to say that we can all agree on liking this kid?).

JoshQ

I have to say, HoRam has always been one of those high walk, high home run pitchers I have been really skeptical about, but I am really excited at the kind of maturity I am seeing.

Obviously Bobby will play kids, we have a million on this team. I just think that he will give a guy like Pratt a lot more time to work things out before he would give Pena serious playing time.

Todd Jones said something about gays when he was with the Rockies (can’t remember what), and later said he was sorry. I personally don’t see it as a big deal anymore, as long as he pitches good.
I don’t know that he’s afraid of homosexuals, but Jones has definitely made public anti-gay remarks. Unfortunately.
And JC, it was reported that Pena spent a large part of the season experimenting with not switch-hitting, which led to some poor production. He went back to switch-hitting just before his call-up. I think it’s fair to assume that he’s a good hitter, based on his past production.
jenny
on June 6, 2006 at 7:29 pm
Here’s the Todd Jones quote:
““I wouldn’t want a gay guy being around me,” Jones told the paper. “It’s got nothing to do with me being scared. That’s the problem: All these people say he’s got all these rights. Yeah, he’s got rights or whatever, but he shouldn’t walk around proud. It’s like he’s rubbing it in our face. ‘See me, hear me roar.’ We’re not trying to be close-minded, but then again, why be confrontational when you don’t really have to be?”
also, in a later column that I think he wrote:
“Off the field is where it gets tough. Real tough. Our team is around each other for eight months or more at a time. That’s more time than I’m around my wife and kids. We eat together, live together and shower together. I need to be comfortable around my teammates. In my opinion, if a gay player has made his sexual preference public, he would have to understand there are 24 teammates with different opinions who are going to deal with him differently. Some players would accept the gay player right off the bat, while others would never be able to accept him. …
For me, the original shock would be hard to handle. To know a player is gay and in the same shower as I am would be strange. It’s only human nature to feel this way. After a while, like anything else, I would get used to it. …
I think a gay baseball player would be lonely. Players would think twice about asking him out to lunch because other players might think the straight player is gay. I don’t think players are narrow-minded, but I think they are homophobic. I’m homophobic. It’s easy to be scared of something you don’t know anything about.”
kc
on June 6, 2006 at 7:30 pm
JC, if you are talking about small sample, the current season stats of Pena at Richmond is a small sample as well. The kid has always been hitting at around .300 with no power in the minor.
That’s a shame that T. Jones is a bigot. As much as we need him, it’s not right to trade for him. It would fly in the face of what I read in JS’s book.

Charles
on June 6, 2006 at 7:49 pm
The Fick/Karros event was blown way out of proportion. When evaluating situations you must remember that baseball is a job to these players. Fick was running hard to first, Karros had his hand up, and in a split second he took a swipe at the glove. It was a dumb move, but it was unpremeditated and because of the speed it was primarily a subconscious move. So he made a very minor mistake on TV? I don’t about you guys but I’ve sinned before. Sometimes, I even knew I was going to ahead of time and did it. I’m actually wearing a Braves jersey right now- should I take it off?

Look, Robert Fick is not a bad guy. He made a bad split-second decision and apologized for it. It’s silly to still be bashing him about it. Karros wasn’t even hurt for more than a couple of minutes; why should we still be talking about it?
We should trade for Soriano just so we don’t have to play against him anymore.
If Fick and Kolbb are any indication, the Braves should resist signing guys who were picked to play in the All-Star game because their teams needed a representative.
We walk Alfronso Soriano, always, from now on, no matter what.

Cory

Charles have you ever played the game of baseball. There is an etiquette on the field. It wasn’t blown out of proportion. You almost NEVER see that play in baseball because the majority of players play the game the right way.
The only thing scarier then Soriano is Jorge Sosa throwing fastballs to Tony Clark!
Sam

Stu
on June 6, 2006 at 7:54 pm
That’s not even remotely true, Cory. Guys slide out of the basepaths to break up double plays all the time. Catchers get run over and announcers defend the runners because “they had to make the decision as they rounded third.” There’s a double standard by those who just don’t pay attention to what’s going on.
Oh C’mon…Chipper is not the slowest Brave by far. Our catchers and LaRoche…slower for sure.

Charles
on June 6, 2006 at 7:57 pm
Of course there is an etiquette on the field. There is also an etiquette in the world. On the baseball field there are brawls, fixed games, gambling on games, cheating on your wife w/ Hooter’s girls, having sex with two strippers while the head of the Gold Club watches, beating yoru wife, steroids, players dogging it, corked bats, pine tar, and anything else. In the world there is genocide, robberty, CEO’s milking employee’s pension and anything else.
Robert Fick slapping a glove on a bang-bang play doesen’t seem to measure up. Even if he spit in Karros’ face and punched him on the way to first I’m not going to curse the guy for life. Why not? Because I’m human too and I mess up nonstop no matter how hard I try. Its called empathy and intelligence- give it a try.
Cory
on June 6, 2006 at 7:57 pm
Running over a catcher is not a dirty play Stu. It’s been part of baseball since it started. How many times does a second baseman or shortstop get taken out when they jump out of the way. Runners slide out of the basepaths to take the middle infielder out all of the time. I played shortstop in high school. However the runner never makes contact if the middle infielder gets out of the way. So that’s not dirty in my opinion.
Stu
on June 6, 2006 at 7:58 pm

Stu
on June 6, 2006 at 8:01 pm
Running over the catcher is sometimes dirty depending on how it’s done, but nobody recognizes that unless they’re talking about Pete Rose, who’s okay to dislike because he gambled.
And you’re proving my point, Cory. Runners do slide out of the basepaths all the time. And it’s illegal, because it impermissibly interferes with/endangers middle infielders. The fact that it happens all the time and isn’t considered dirty is exactly why a one-time glove-slap should not get a guy labeled for life. Just crazy.
And I’m glad you played shortstop in high school; I hope you enjoyed doing so. I played second base and left field. I’m not sure how any of that is relevant to this discussion.

Stupid is as stupd does. That’s whay Momma always said. Oh, and the box of chocolates too.

Raoul, three straight quality starts isn’t something we’ve seen much of. Only Smoltz has had a longer run of QSs this season. (Thomson and Hudson have also had runs of three.)

Rumor has it Bobby has been working on a knuckleball and will close tonight’s game. Its the secret contingency plan ‘X-6’ He isn’t wearing a uniform and spikes for nothing. The Braves have had it in place since 91 but haven’t had to use it yet.
McBride is not coming in. Sorry, not happening (at least, I would think.)
It will be Reitsma or Ray. We shall see.

I think the Braves strategy with drafting is to not only go with the local boys, but to draft fans of the team. It makes some sense to go out and get guys who would be thrilled to play for your team, at least until free agency hits and they go for the money.
Kaitlin, two excellent points: as soon as Alex R. started being positive, this entire board got positive, and the Braves won as a result. I’m loving the change.
Also, from now on I will refer to our first baseman exclusively as Pokey LaRoche. Hopefully it will catch on to the extent that Don Sutton will develop an exclusive home run call for him: “And Pokey pokes one.”
What a great game! Thank God–we needed this like nothing else. Horacio and Kenny Ray for president!
Dimondbacks, Natienels…there al the saame.
As a resident of Northern Virginia, I beg to differ.
Ssadly, they both have beating the Braves, in succession, in common these days.
We could really use back to back magic from Horacio and Smoltz the next 2 nights.
I miss the Bolg.
Wulkum bak, dannee…
Let’s pray to God that they win this one.
Please.
It’s 6-6-06, don’t think that’s gonna help today.
Nice to see you Alex.
HoRam has looked good his last 2 starts, hopefully he can turn it around for us. I’m not asking for a 15-0 win, but to just win, would be great. Then we can start working on getting our stuff back.
Good point.
OK, well, there’s always crossing your fingers and hoping that something bad happens to the other team.
Brad, waiting and hoping has worked for 14 years, but: Some guys do need to go. Addition by subtraction.
Mike Devereaux was a nice guy. Rafael Belliard was a nice guy. John Rocker? Not such a nice guy.
But I hope you get my point which is: Nice guys finish exactly where they are supposed to finish, depending on their talent level–and so do not-so-nice guys.
I have the solution to all the Braves’ needs…
Trade Adam LaRoche and Chris Reitsma for Preston Mattingly!!!
Bring up Thorman, B. Jordan go bye bye.
Watching election results. Mac? I though you wanted to reduce your depression. The only constant in Alabama politics is that stupidity will tend to a maximum.
Is Thorman a Lefty?
Bats left, throws right.
“HES WACHING ELECKSHON REZULTS”
Baxley
Riley
Darby
King
Now that you know who’ll win, watch the game.
Darby better not.
How is it you can only throw left and bat right or the other way around? How does that work?
Actually AAR, Preston may be an upgrade. I’d do that trade because we’d be giving up nothing for something. Of course if the Dodgers could throw in Baez that wouldn’t hurt either.
ok, I was reading the article on Baseball America about Cody Johnson, and the following phrases just pop out like it is from the book written by JS: “Good makeup, combined with an excellent work ethic”
Hope this pick will work out. The Braves are indeed lacking depth in the minor at first base and outfield.
Hi Kaitlin–thanks for the nice greeting.
“I miss the Bolg.”
Same here.
Maybe a sequel? The Chris Reitsma blog?
Crap. Here we go again.
HoRo can’t pitch from behind…sigh…
I definitely agree with you Alex about McCann. I am sorry for calling you out last night and I hope all have a good discussion of the game tonight. We all just have so much passion for our Braves. McCann should be back for the game Thursday night in Houston.
Yikes…is this my punishment for being positive?
C’mon HoRam…settle!
Thanks Cory…do you know when McCann is due back?
It’s only one run Alex. It’s not all too bad if HoRam can get out of this without further damage….
Horacio threw more than twenty-five pitches that inning.
whoops…I see the Mccann part and thrilled hes back this week..lets get some wins and back to .500 to welcome the kid back.
Seriously, I never thought Edgar has such a weak arm…
McCann is suppossed to do a two game rehab stint in Rome which would make him available to come off the DL the first day he is eligible which is Thursday
No, no KC…not being negative, I swear! 🙂
But 25 pitches is too many…lets hope he gets an 8 pitch inning next time.
Horacio just needs to get ahead in the count and he will be fine.
Holy Crap.
did anyone realize that the ANGELS ARE PLAYING THE DEVIL rays on 6-6-06?
Who thought of that one, Bud?
Not to be supersticious, but go Angels?
What?! Fick is behind the plate?!
Back to back nights of strange events, Gregg and Hernandez / and now this. WOW!
Robert Fick came up as a catcher in the Tiger organization if I remember correctly.
If Fick is preferable to LeCroy, LeCroy must REALLY suck.
Yes, he was a catcher, but it is still a surprise…
Here’s LaRoche in another RBI situation.
Prediction: Ground out to 2B.
oops, ground out to ss instead…
Ah, if only LaRoche ran faster than a parked car…
I am not going to repeat myself and say anything negative about LaRoche, I will let others do that.
But I think it’s fair to say that I am greatly looking forward to Brian McCann batting 5th on Thursday night.
We’re coming for you guys.
Alex, I have given up hope on Adam. I gave the kid two years to prove himself, and he has just shown zero improvement. He will never be the John Olerud type of plater we thought he would be.
There’s that 8 pitch inning.
Now, that’s the good HoRam when he is pitching ahead in the count.
Cool!
I said “8 pitches” (please see above) and he did it in…8 pitches!!!
Do theHTML tagsstill work?
Yes. So does my space bar, though you can’t tell.
Francoeur’s new nickname will be “Out One”.
Mac,
Considering how often LaRoche has ended innings, it’s probably fair.
Though Frenchy did hit a home run last night. I would take another one tonight.
I really like Pena’s swing. He has a smart approach each time he hits.
Why hasn’t Brayan Pena been playing more then Pratt? I like this kid.
Also, HoRam is hitting .429…let him swing?
For some reason, Pena reminds me of Estrada…without the defensive skills…
Has HoHo lost weight?
Why are we bunting with Horacio? He should be hitting third in our lineup.
Jenny,
You know…maybe being in better shape maybe the reason HoRam is pitching better.
HoRam should be leading off with Marcus batting second.
GILES.
Yes way to go Gilly. Thanks Soriano.
Maybe Frank should put Fick in left field, too.
Marcus!!! Thanks Alonzo!!!
mlb.com is slow…I hate Comcast blacking out my PPV 🙁
Jenny, I thought that too. Someone said it on this forum back in April during his first pitching performance of this year.
Ramirez does look thiner.
Alonzo? No, that guy plays great defense.
Pena isn’t going to play more. He is a kid in Bobby’s eyes and Bobby will always go with the Veteran.
quick out by Rentaria but we will take runs any way we can.
Hopefully…more 2nd inning HoRam then first inning…
Unlike our injured regular catcher, who is a grizzled veteran who played for Billy Martin, right? Please.
Yeah, Mac. I don’t get where the “Bobby only plays veterans” sentiment comes from. People still bitter about Jordan over Jurries. Jurries had an option left, people. Sheesh.
Looking at Todd Jones this year, he appears to have been a steal. He wanted so badly to pitch for the Braves, why didn’t J.S. sign him? We obviously could use Mr. Jones.
My guess is that he wasn’t enough of a veteran for Bobby.
But Pena it would seem should have been playing more then Pratt. It’s clear the kid can really hit.
I meant he is simply a little green and no matter how bad Pratt may be playing and how good Pena could be playing, there is no way Bobby will play Pena over Pratt in the short term. McCann and Pena shouldn’t even be in the same conversation, I know that.
The one time I saw Todd Jones this year, he got 2 outs, then gave up a single, then a 2-run bomb to Kevin Youkilis, of all people, and then lost. And I thought, “Reitsma could do that!”
Another good inning by HoRam. Seems like he can’t strike anyone out except the pitcher, but at least he has been keeping the ball within the ballpark.
Todd Jones still (last I checked) has less blown saves than Billy Wagner, Chris Reitsma, Brad Lidge, et all.
The several times I’ve seen Todd Jones this year, he’s been writing like a 3rd grader for The Sporting News.
But Jenny, to be fair, that’s been a rarity for Todd Jones this year. That’s been a regular nightly occurence for Reitsma.
You know, I think JS won’t sign Todd Jones because… well, hasn’t he made some inflammatory comments before? For some reason, I’m thinking if JS signed Jones, someone would scream “John Rocker”. Am I right here or misguided?
kc,
I have to say, HoRam has always been one of those high walk, high home run pitchers I have been really skeptical about, but I am really excited at the kind of maturity I am seeing.
the Braves I am sure are thrilled to see this kind of consistency.
Again, some big kudos to McDowell on this one.
Sam,
I have heard the redneck label applied to T. Jones before but to be fair, I don’t think he’s had any public comments to my knowledge of note…has he?
Obviously Bobby will play kids, we have a million on this team. I just think that he will give a guy like Pratt a lot more time to work things out before he would give Pena serious playing time.
Before we get too excited about Pena, he hit .226/.280/.287 in Richmond this year. He’s only had 23 ABs in the bigs so far this year.
I think Todd Jones is a noted homophobe, but I might be making that up.
McDowell has been doing doing some good work with Hudson and HoRam.
Reitsma…neither Leo nor Roger can fix him. Completely hopeless.
LaRoche!
Roachy!!
Yeah, Adam, glad to see you are killing Triple-A pitching.
I second this HoRo we’re seeing pitch lately. This is a small sample, but you gotta like what you are seeing.
Todd Jones said something about gays when he was with the Rockies (can’t remember what), and later said he was sorry. I personally don’t see it as a big deal anymore, as long as he pitches good.
Rochey…No one ever said he can’t hit the homer.
A homer’s a homer. 🙂
Even I will take whatever Adam will give us.
The problem is that all he does is hit home runs, and all that Francoeur does is hit home runs. The rest of the time, they’re Out Three and Out One.
Don’t trust HoRam, he will only break your heart.
I still wonder how the Braves will lose this? Home run off Ken Ray? I won’t believe it till out three in the top of the ninth is recorded.
I’ve never liked Todd Jones. I’ve listened to several interviews over the years and he’s very arrrogant. He’s had like two good seasons his entire career and thinks he is some top level closer. And like Stu said his column in the Sporting News is terrible writing.
Apologies for posting the huge long quotes. But if you Google “todd jones homophobic,” let’s just say a ton of stuff pops up. It’s too bad.
I wasn’t suggesting we trade for Todd Jones, Alex. I was just wondering out loud why JS didn’t sign him, I think he was a good, cheap option personally.
HoRam’s groundball/flyball ratio this season is somewhere between 2:1 and 3:1, and he has not allowed a homerun this season yet. If he can keep that up, I think he will be ok.
This T. Jones thing reminds me of a pet peeve of mine. Please if you are famous and I like you, don’t tell me anything about your beliefs (liberal, conserative, whatever). I just want to watch you play ball or listen to your music.
How about us leading a game…huh!!!
I’m excited by the little things these days.
62 pitches through 4 innings. He’s doing fine.
The little things make all the difference.
Speaking of bad guys, as much as I root for the Braves in the post season, when Fick acted dirty a few years back as a Brave (against Houston, right?) I immediately didn’t want to see him in a Braves uniform. It flew in the face of what I felt our uniform should represent. I hate seeing the team I root for act like the way Fick did in (I think) 2004.
Nothing like a leadoff triple.
Nice Langerhans.
PENA 😀
I like Pena, too, but that bat flip he does after making contact is kind of annoying.
I’m with you Alex. Fick’s actions against Karros cost him an opportunity of resigning with Atlanta. I will forever categorize him as a dirty player for that incident.
Alex,
That was Eric Karros with the Cubs.
Dan, I agree…before I heard about the bigoted stuff tonight, I wondered as well why we didn’t try harder to get a good reliever. But now I understand why.
it would not be right. Reitsma may stink, but he seems like a good guy.
I think it was against the Cubs, Alex. Fick took a swipe at Karros on a bang-bang play at first.
It was 2003. He pushed somebody running to first. Is that what you’re talking about.
I don’t remember seeing it or who it was against, just hearing about it.
The Fick thing was against Eric Karros and the Cubs. And, in my opinion, it was blown WAY out of proportion.
Oops, too late 🙂
Typical Pena, contact hitter with no power. He should be a great pinch hitter.
Sorry…I was sure it was against Houston in 2004 but I guess it was the Cubs in 2003.
I was thrilled when Cox yanked Fick’s butt out of the game after that.
Alex, 2004 was Adam’s first season in the major when he hit that tying three-run homerun in Game 4 against the Astros…when I still had high hope on that kid.
So maybe we should give the head’s up to Rochey next time Fick is running down to 1st base.
I google’d this article from ESPN.com when the Braves signed Fick.
read the last part.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2003/0106/1487880.html
“I made the All-Star team and took a pay cut,” Fick said. “But I’ve learned to swallow my pride. This is really like hitting the lottery. I get a chance to be the everyday first baseman on a team that has won 11 division championships in a row. You can’t put a price on that.”
Yeah…that really lasted there, Rob…
Seeing that John Smoltz-Home Depot commercial makes me so glad they don’t play that horrible, embarrassing Ramirez commercial anymore.
Alex, I remember JS offered that 1yr/1 mil contract to both Fick and Travis Lee, and Fick accepted the offer before Lee, who ended up with the D-Rays.
Eee yep, Soriano homer number bazillion against Atlanta.
Welcome back old HoRam.
Who allowed HoRam to pitch inside to Soriano?
If Fick and Kolbb are any indication, the Braves should resist signing guys who were picked to play in the All-Star game because their teams needed a representative.
New Rule:
We walk Alfronso Soriano, always, from now on, no matter what.
The same person that’s advising all of our pitchers to challenge him. Whoever it is needs to be muzzled against the Natspos.
I don’t know, but at this point, why don’t they treat Soriano like Barry Bonds?
Why does it feel like half of Soriano’s home runs this season have been against the Atlanta Braves?
Charles have you ever played the game of baseball. There is an etiquette on the field. It wasn’t blown out of proportion. You almost NEVER see that play in baseball because the majority of players play the game the right way.
…because, they HAVE, Dan. More then half…
The last time I checked, Soriano “only” hit six of his 22 HR against the Braves…
The only thing scarier then Soriano is Jorge Sosa throwing fastballs to Tony Clark!
This was his sixth homer against Atlanta this season.
That’s not even remotely true, Cory. Guys slide out of the basepaths to break up double plays all the time. Catchers get run over and announcers defend the runners because “they had to make the decision as they rounded third.” There’s a double standard by those who just don’t pay attention to what’s going on.
Fick is not a “dirty” player.
sorry, kc…was attempting sarcasm 😉
but it sure feels like he has hit us the most…you know?
Dang! Beat by one minute!
Or throwing hanging sliders to Carlos Delgado.
Oh C’mon…Chipper is not the slowest Brave by far. Our catchers and LaRoche…slower for sure.
oh no, Alex, I wasn’t trying to correct you by any mean. Six HRs in seven games is bad enough…
Pena’s definitely faster than Chipper.
Do you guys remember the ’94 Spring Training, when Chipper (pre-knee surgery and pre-bulk-up) was the second-fastest Brave on the team? Only Deion was faster.
We need more runs.
I am still trying to look for a baseball player who runs slower than Estrada…
LaRoche, McCann and Pratt are the slowest.
I think the three still run faster than Estrada…
Todd Pratt is the slowest guy on the team. Brian McCann is the slowest guy according to Smoltz.
NICE!
Nice, no runs scored by the Gnats.
You a Christian, Charles? (If that’s too personal, sorry; I’m just curious.)
yep.
Looks like we are going to miss Oswalt in the Houston series. The Astros just placed him on the DL.
Awesome. Me too.
Good to get a series with the Astros without facing Oswalt and Clemens. I am so sicked of them.
Oswalts head is deformed.
Is Soriano the new Chris Sabo?
Is it fair to call Damian Jackson a poor man’s Ryan Freel? And Freel is like a poor man’s Chone Figgins. According to Bill Simmons, that makes Jackson a homeless man’s Chone Figgins. I’m done now.
Let’s get one more inning out of Horacio. Then let’s see McBride and Ray.
Chris Sabo?!
This commercial about meeting teen girls online is disturbing.
Another close game. Let’s try and get some security runs, so we won’t have to trust our bullpen with just a one-run lead.
With LaRoche being as slow and laid-back as he is, the nickname “Pokey” strikes me as very fitting. I’m gonna start calling him that.
Cory, with our luck, we will see Remlinger and Reitsma.
Is Damian Jackson the guy that had the collision with Johnny Damon in the outfield in the playoffs a couple of years ago?
It was. By the way, do you remember whether Damon spoke like a neanderthal before that collision?
WOW, four Ks by HoRam tonight!!!!!!!
Yeah
I can’t believe I just witnessed a Chris Sabo reference. Legendary 🙂
Soriano the new Sabo!?!?
Nice inning Ho.
Horace has looked damned good in his outings since coming off the DL. He’s been a real boost. He could be HUGE if he stays sharp.
Let’s go get some runs and, finally, win us a game.
Amen to that.
“You a Christian, Charles?”
Boy was that out of left field.
Note that the number of Remlinger appearances and Braves losses (30) is identical.
I could still remember the old trade rumor of Andruw and Ortiz for Ordonez and Rauch.
It wasn’t, really. I could tell by his remarks on Fick.
That’s a good one Stu.
Is anybody warming up in the pen? Or do we want one more out Horacio?
I am really more & more excited by Horam’s consistency. Nice to see!
Mac, if the Braves indeed win tonight’s game, Danny may have to stay with us for the rest of the year.
LOL kc.
Again, I think it’s important we respect all religions in here. Not sure where this discussion is going but I personally respect everyone’s religion in here. I would hope we all would.
Maybe Danny should just become our Official Mascot.
And after a bunch of inconsistency from this team, Alex, that’s something that’ll go a long way.
Even the Satanists?
Alex, nobody’s disrespecting anybody.
Chris Sabo- the legendary Braves’ Killer. I still have nightmares about that guy. To this day he is the one player that strikes the most fear into my heart. Rumor has it that JS’s Great Grandfather stole the fiancee’ of Sabo’s Great Grandfather and that the Sabo’s have sworn vengeance on the Braves for this lifetime and many to come.
Look, if you dare:

This is the twilight zone. Horace is pitching better than Hudson and fans are actually looking to him for an impact. Albeit, he’s had three good starts.
Satanists are people, too!
I guess.
If we win, then I say Danny should start every game thread until the Braves lose.
If we get to the bottom of the ninth with this one run lead, do we see Reitsma or Ray?
And you especially don’t want to disrespect Satanists on today of all days.
Ray, no question.
Five Ks for HoRam!!! That’s magic!!!
Hey everyone… what about McBride if there’s a save opportunity?
Cut through the heart of the order here and the ninth will be easier
Somebody kills that guy.
I like the McBride idea a lot now.
That reminds me, the Angels are pounding the Satanists. Go Good Guys!!!
McBride is one of the few pitchers that I have faith in, where the bullpen is concerned. So, if we need to get some outs, use him.
116 pitches for Horacio thus far.
Only three outs. We can do this.
whew!
Thank you for your effort Horacio. Good job.
Rumor has it Bobby has been working on a knuckleball and will close tonight’s game. Its the secret contingency plan ‘X-6’ He isn’t wearing a uniform and spikes for nothing. The Braves have had it in place since 91 but haven’t had to use it yet.
all right, Horam!!!!
McBride is not coming in. Sorry, not happening (at least, I would think.)
It will be Reitsma or Ray. We shall see.
Three more outs and we win this thing, we’ll break our losing streak.
I would bet money it’s Ken Ray if the Braves don’t score here.
I think the last time anyone brought in a knuckleballer in a late game situation was the last time Aaron Boone got cheered; and the last time Grady Little set foot in Boston.
Dan, don’t even joke about R*****a coming into this game.
Joey, then I wish the Braves don’t score…
MVP!
Pujols is gone, remember?
ok…let me ask this…BC wouldn’t really use Reitsma, would he?
ANDRUW!!!
That’s was great.
Of course, if the Braves score enough, we could be looking at Reitsma. Go Andruw.
MVP
I think Ray is up.
Andruw!
Thanks, Andruw…whew.
How about AJ at .289?
Every run counts when our bullpen is about to go into action. Let’s get some more…
Actually I read that the Brave’s are going to bring in to close rookie right-hander Henry Roengartner that they just drafted this morning. Apparently he has a devastating pitch known only as ‘the floater’.
That’s the best thing about AJ this year, Raoul Duke. His power is there, his discipline is there, and now he’s added batting average.
LaRoche on.
Come on Francoeur.
I thought his last name was Rossenbagger…
Frenchy!
Good job, Frenchy!
Nice.
Let’s blow this game out so even Reitsma couldn’t blow it.
Reitsma can blow a ten-run lead.
“Actually I read that the Brave’s are going to bring in to close rookie right-hander Henry Roengartner that they just drafted this morning.”
You’re kidding, right?
that was pathetic, langer.
Dan, it’s an inside, movie thing.
Thank goodness, Ray is in the bullpen.
Crap.
Just three more outs. Just three more outs. Just three more outs.
Awww, that sucked.
LaRoche, Langerhans, and Francoeur have ridiculous splits, and they all reenforced them this inning.
Don’t tell me you haven’t seen Rookie of the Year!
I will credit Danny boy with a save if the Braves win.
Ray! Three more outs, please, just three more outs.
Did anybody else hear Rathbun refer to Chan Gailey as one of the legendary offensive minds in college football today?
I think the Braves have officially removed Reitsma from the closer’s role.
One down, two more.
Come on, Braves!
One down.
Thank goodness.
One out!
That’s two.
Two down!!
I’m getting all excited now!
That’s awesome stuff Kenny!!!
One more, Kenny…
You know, Ray and Reitsma basically throw the same pitches. The difference between them is purely control and location.
BRAVES WIN!
KEN RAY FOR CLOSER (UNTIL HE SCREWS UP IF HE DOES AT ALL)!
WE WIN!!!!!
Good inning from Ray!
Hallelujah!!
AWESOME!!!
I think the Braves strategy with drafting is to not only go with the local boys, but to draft fans of the team. It makes some sense to go out and get guys who would be thrilled to play for your team, at least until free agency hits and they go for the money.
feels nice to win. it’s been too long.
we win!
Death Ray!!!
WOOHOO
did he strike out the side?
Great way to end the game with a strikeout, but it’s even better that Soriano was left waiting on deck.
How many saves does Ray have to get before he gets his own music and entrance graphic?
Only two strike-outs, Adam. One fly out to Francoeur.
Ray wants to pitch in the 9th, and he shown on a small scale he can do it, so hopefully he’ll continue to do it and continue to do it well.
Alex, I think I like what happens when you’re positive.
right. well, nice one. have a good night everyone.
