Need to pick up a good solid win tonight. That, along with a Phillie loss could put the club in second. Which isn’t that big of a deal numerically, but it sure is mentally. Young of the Pod People looks allright, but nowhere near unhittable. Thing is, you never can tell if momentum picks up after the break.

1914 Update:
NY Giants 44-30
Chicago Cubs 42-37 (4.5 GB)
St. Louis Cardinals 41-39 (6)
Philadelphia Phillies 36-37 (7.5)
Cincinnati Reds 38-40 (8)
Brooklyn Robins 33-37 (9)
Pittsburgh Pirates 33-38 (9.5)
Boston Braves 33-42 (11.5)
Braves lose today at St. Louis, 3-2.
1914 Update salutes Oliver Frank Fletcher, who struck out in a pinch-hitting appearance for the Phillies today during their doubleheader at the Reds. It was his only game in the major leagues.
Mr. Fletcher lived a long life, passing away in 1974 in St. Petersburg, Florida, at 83. No idea if he looked like Burt Lancaster.

Hey guys. Don’t know how many of you the TBS deal will affect, but there is a petition to TBS here: http://www.petitiononline.com/031025/petition.html
Even if you’ll still get alot of Braves games, it won’t hurt to sign it and try to help those that will be forced to pay large sums in order to even watch their team. Thanks.

What a stupid petition. TBS decided, and rightfully so, that it was in their best financial interest to phase out of Braves’ programming, and into whatever else they air instead (hell if I know). That decision implies that their target audience is someone who watches their other stuff, and not Braves games, i.e. not you. Congratulations, you have just told TBS that they have failed to keep a customer that they didn’t want to keep in the first place.

Jenny, if JS tells the media that his team is desperate for bullpen addition, the trade partners will be asking for Andruw for nobody. Fine defense by Renteria this inning. Saved at least one run.

Interesting comments by Skip a few minutes ago. He had mentioned in response to the anger over the TBS deal that there was a new network in the works that would provide Braves games to the Southeast.
Ideally, I think most fans would like to see the Braves own thier own network, not unlike the Red Sox and NESN. A perfect situation would be the Braves (or whoever owns the Braves) owning thier own network, hiring the current announcers, and airing Hawks and Thrashers games during the offseason.

“Yes, why isn’t Thorman playing.”
His batting average? And the fact that he is a rookie and Bobby, for some odd and dumb reason, never trusts rookies.
He’d play Brian Jordan over Scott Thorman.
He’d play Chris Reitsma over Kevin Barry.
He’d play John Thomson over Chuck James.
He trusts Todd Pratt against left-handed pitchers over Brian McCann.

You mean rookies like Furcal, Andruw, Chipper, or Klesko? Or Betemit last year? Or Lightenberg, Rocker, or McBride?

Let me re-phrase that. Bobby Cox does put an okay amount of trust in rookies, but puts too much trust in very old veterans. Chris Reitsma is only not pitching because of his injury, not because of the 9.11 ERA.
The Mets actually being in first place must really be messing with his mind.

By the way, what’s up with all the evil people on the website tonight? Yikes.
I am officially grabbing my hacksaw and lighting a torch. Let’s all go GET JS and give him a little “Deliverance” love. What a corporate ass kissing fool he’s become–a stooge.

Miserable Braves win index 15a. Horrible starting pitching blows a big lead but offense gets another one then horrible, horrible bullpen that belongs in single A proceeds to blow one lead after another but ultimately the Braves outslug the opponent to win in extra innings.
Did I hear correctly that Peter Moylan was being recalled? Awesome! No more bullpen worries!
I have a feeling that losing that game would have been the nail in the coffin for this team. But they won and are now in 2nd place in the division and 5.5 back in the wild card and almost have clawed their way into the crowd of medicore serious contenders such as Houston.
Why would San Diego ever want to trade a solid relief pitcher like Linebrink for a utility infielder like Betemit? They would have to be out of their minds. If they want to do that, let’s take it.
Oh and…
TRADE TIM HUDSON AND JORGE SOSA NOW!!!! (DFA SOSA IF NEED BE JUST DO ANYTHING TO GET HIM OFF THE ROSTER!)

Thanks kyle. I thought the site interesting, though I have no idea if his conclusions are true.
Thanks.
Lineups: Us:
M Giles
Renteria
C Jones
A Jones
McCann
Francoeur
LaRoche
Langerhans
Hudson
Them:
Roberts
Cameron
B Giles
Piazza
Gonzalez
Greene
Bellhorn
Barfield
Young
What a stupid petition. TBS decided, and rightfully so, that it was in their best financial interest to phase out of Braves’ programming, and into whatever else they air instead (hell if I know). That decision implies that their target audience is someone who watches their other stuff, and not Braves games, i.e. not you. Congratulations, you have just told TBS that they have failed to keep a customer that they didn’t want to keep in the first place.
This doesn’t sound good:
“Schuerholz said he thinks the seven-win homestand also gave credence to the notion that the team, as is, can make the playoffs with no additions necessary.”
http://www.macon.com/mld/macon/sports/15034454.htm
–What planet does Schuerholz live on? All those blown saves and he is just peachy with the bullpen as is!?
I’m a little surprised at JS’s apparent need to bury his head in the sand. Who stole his mojo?
Andruw should have a good game tonight. This season against Chris Young 2-2 2HR 4 RBI’s.
Maybe Dayton Moore took it with him to KC.
have a three-day weekend but the sweltering heat out there! I was prostrated by the heat.
In other words, I am planning to watch the Braves and loaf at home, today. I trust to hear good news.
Ok, after a disappointing first half and a week of break, I am all charged up for Braves baseball again! Let’s show the kids what 1991 and 1993 comeback is all about!!!
Jenny, if JS tells the media that his team is desperate for bullpen addition, the trade partners will be asking for Andruw for nobody. If there is one thing JS and Bobby are good at, they are good at not telling the media anything meaningful, which may be frustrating for us to listen, but it is the way to do business.
Schuerholz is not an aggressive manager, which is what the Braves need(ed) back in May.
Another thing I don’t understand about the scheduling…why are the Braves visiting San Diego twice this year? Stupid…
Well, Giles hasn’t forgotten how to take bad pitches. Young’s missing high, which is usually a bad sign for a pitcher.
Good start Marcus!
OMG, did we just steal a base?
Sweet start.
Renteria!!!!
Bobby loves to run against Piazza. He may even send Adam once or twice in this series.
Now if the good Hudson shows up tonight the Braves will be in business.

ANDRUW!!!!!!
McCann got out. Trade him!
WOW!!! Great start!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve really missed it 😉
Frenchy swinging at the first pitch…same old same old…
Andruw hitting homers on his kness, gotta love it
McCann makes the first out. Four in a row reach and he can’t?
Even the TBS guys are talking about the Linebrink for Betemit rumor.
Good start.
“The pitcher is young and the fans are restless….”
Chip’s on his game today folks
I don’t understand the rumor, the Padres on at the top of the division, why would they trade Linebrink? Who happens to be a very important part of their bullpen?
because the have Bellhorn and Vinny castilla at third. You remember Vinny don’t you?
I guess they are desperate for offense.
Because none of their third basemen can hit. And Betemit is young, cheap and has upside.
I can understand the third baseman part, but Josh Tower places high importance on the bullpen (the anti-JS). Besides, if Bowden can get Kearns and Lopez for a bullpen arm, I don’t think Betemit will be enough to get Linebrink.
Johnny Damon laughs at Piazza’s throwing arm
4-0….let’s see Hudson hold the lead.
Mark Bellhorn, starting tonight at 3B, is hitting 199/ 284/ 417. About as useful as you can be without hitting .200, which is not very.
Come on Huddy, attack the strike zone.
Great defensive positioning.
Good play.
Nice D by Edgar…
Wow..where these guys in June
Good inning Huddy. That’s exactly what the team needs!
Fine defense by Renteria this inning. Saved at least one run.
kc, we had to play one additional series against a team outside our division (instead of playing six interleague series like some NL teams). It’s our misfortune that it wound up being on the West Coast.
* where were these guys… type-o
Thanks Brain. It’s a great misfortune indeed. I just hate west coast trips.
Damn, Hudson gave it a ride.
That was a good play by Cameron.
That sucks.
Nice catch by that kid
Gonzalez has been on fire.
Wow…Edgar…
Yea that is fine but what about the Braves fans that don’t live in the southeast.
‘atta boy Chipper.
Cortisone shots must’ve worked.
I wouldn’t be too optimistic about that happenning- among other things, forming such a network would require sanity in the Hawks’ front office. And the Thrashers would be negligible contributors in any financial sense.
You see Jay, that’s the magic of Bud. He is forcing everyone to buy the MLBTv package.
If you’re a Braves fan and you live outside the southeast, it’s very simple: you suck. Haha, I’m JUST KIDDING.
….
Go Braves.
Somebody needs to talk to Andruw- he would have beaten the rap at first if he didn’t corkscrew himself into the ground, as he now does after every swing.
Yea it seems like I have two options, MLBTV or move back to the south.
If his corkscrew sends balls into the upper deck and into the gaps at the frequency in which he’s doing it now, I can deal with that DP and a couple infield hits not legged out.
Can anyone else hear a voice over the game
Huddy’s control is still missing…hope the offense will keep scoring!!!
Yeah Smitty, I heard them…
it was .. weird?
Just the presence of Andruw saved a run for the Braves on the Giles single…
I think I heard the words “typical Tarantino” in the overlapping dialogue.
Where was Langerhans?
Not for long, kc. The bad Hudson has come out to play.
Left-center field.
The Braves can’t win sh*t if Huddy keeps pitching like this…
Well there goes that lead….
……………………………………………………………………………………………….
Wow.
That’s a bad feeling, I remember that first game of the season all over again…
Five runs of support in three innings and Hudson can’t hold it. He has completely lost it. He should be taken out as soon as his next at-bat comes up or if he gives up any more runs.
Un-fricking-believable.
What on earth is wrong with Huddy? Jebus.
You know, I may just start to run out of patiance with Huddy…
They are really on him.
Oscar Villarreal warming up over Kevin Barry.
Bobby Cox doesn’t learn, does he?
ok…first Giambi, then Gonzalez…Huddy is making all opponent’s first baseman becoming Hank.
Oscar must have “the pictures.” How else can he keep getting into position for wins he doesn’t deserve?
Great hustle…infield hit.
There’s an at bat to build on- take pitches and hustle, and good things tend to happen.
Lets see Huckleberry hustle that out, NOT!
And HOLY SHITE do I hate these Padres announcers, almost as much as I hate Gant.
Adam!!
Thank you Adam!!
LAROCHE!
Man, the ball is carrying tonight.
Roach!!
Balls are really flying out of that place tonight
ADAM!!! THANK FOR PROVING ME WRONG!!!
Somewhere out there Lando weeps. 😀
Dang you LaRoche and that home run! Why isn’t Thorman playing!?
(sarcasm)
Yes, why isn’t Thorman playing.
Everyone is hitting this guy tonight so why not Huckleberry?
No not weeping Jeremy, I am just glad Frenchy hustled out that infield hit so it’s a two run homer instead of a solo.
Adam has been playing well of late.
Huddy’s done.
I just hope we don’t see Jordan ever again.
“Adam has been playing well of late.”
He really is, just like Giles and Chipper. Everyone on the Braves’ team seems to be getting hot at the same time.
And today is Hudson’s 31st birthday? Well happy birthday.
L8r, Huddy. Maybe you can spend the rest of the night trying to pull your head out of your ass.
Vulture time!
Why did we bring in a pinch-hitter to bunt? Hudson coulda done that. Now, as the announcers point out, we’ve burned a pinch-hitter in the 4th inning, even if it is Pete Orr.
Ok, Bobby is not even sending Huddy out to make a bunt, that’s how much confidence Bobby has in Huddy on his bunting skill.
Three whole innings from Hudson. Whoop-de-doo.
Maybe they should give him a shot at the closer’s job? He couldn’t be much worse than Sosa.
I think it’s a stretch to call Orr any type of hitter, pinch- or otherwise.
What can I say? Oh, a thousand words. Wait a minute…
There.
That’s a great idea Leeds. The Padres announcers were saying opponents hit .220 against Hudson on their first round of at-bats, and over .300 on their second trip. Yeah, the Braves will have a $10M closer again!!!
You’re making a scary amount of sense. Or would if we had something better than Lance Cormier to plug into the rotation.
If Hudson could close effectively, we’d at least be getting something out of him. A sub-.500 record and an ERA well above 4 isn’t even something you want at the back of your rotation.
Anyway, see you guys tomorrow, talk amongst yourselves, and if you-know-who shows up, just ignore him.
Put Kevin Barry in the rotation instead of Cormier. He was starting at AAA.
Leeds, Bobby is saying he will keep Barry in the bullpen because he is doing well there. Check the AJC website and you will find the article.
His batting average? And the fact that he is a rookie and Bobby, for some odd and dumb reason, never trusts rookies.
You mean rookies like Furcal, Andruw, Chipper, or Klesko? Or Betemit last year? Or Lightenberg, Rocker, or McBride?
Bobby gets a lot of flak for “not playing rookies”, but the record indicates otherwise. And it’s hard to actually point at many players who were stifled by Cox’s handling.
The Vulture will be the Braves first 10-game winner…that’s pretty sad…
You’d need one less reliever if you move Hudson to closer, kc.
Let me rephrase myself: Using Hudson as a closer would make sense if Cox would plug anyone better than Cormier into the rotation.
Those Padres announcers suck big time.
“You’d need one less reliever if you move Hudson to closer, kc.”
They all suck (aside from Ray, Barry and possibly Paronto) so you could easily find one to dump.
Let me re-phrase that. Bobby Cox does put an okay amount of trust in rookies, but puts too much trust in very old veterans. Chris Reitsma is only not pitching because of his injury, not because of the 9.11 ERA.
And Villareal completes the inning.
http://www.junglewalk.com/sound/Vulture-sounds.htm
Okay, one more thing… I think we should try to get Villareal 18 wins so he can tie Roy Face’s record. And good night.
Chipper!!!!
Chipper!!!!
This is like ’99
CHIPPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Got my new exclamation points.)
Chipper again?
Are we playing the Rockies?
If we win the Wild Card and Chipper stays on this tear…MVP?
If those idiots wouldn’t vote for andruw last year chipper wouldn’t get any love.
I just heard the name Marvin Freeman out from the mouths of the Padres announcers…what’s going on?
No, kc, they just moved Petco up into the mountains, I think.
And it may be sacrilige around here, but Andruw didn’t deserve the MVP last year.
Leeds, Andruw deserves the MVP if there is no Albert Pujols.
“Oscar Villarreal with a chance to vulture his way to another win tonight.” -Chip Carey.
Fuck you Metstradamus!!!
The Mets, winning in style!
Just leave them alone Jay. They have the 15 years of frustration in their chest. You just have to feel sorry for them.
LOL…
Wow, the Vulture got Gonzalez out!!!
Actually, I think Derrick Lee deserved it more than Andruw last year. You can make a case either way there, though.
Pujols blew them both away, though.
Devine pitched well tonight for the pelicans. 3 ip, 5 ks, and one hit. no runs allowed.
Silly Mets. Let’s win the wild card and beat the NL West team then beat the Mets, ateam we own in the post season
It’s going to be so funny if the Mets go out in the first round. The Cardinals will represent the NL in the world series.
I think the Mets troll is just Mac’s other personality. This season has broken the poor guy.
Therefore, we should just speak to him in a soothing voice, agreeing to whatever outlandish things he says, and hope the medication kicks in soon.
Good thing the Mets have all that young talent, oh wait, they are an old team? Damn!
Yes, yes, Mr. Mets… Tell me more about your childhood.
Don’t bother with him/it Jay…
The Mets actually being in first place must really be messing with his mind.
That’s great news Hate King. I don’t expect anything from Devine this year though. Just keep him in the minor this season would be good enough for me.
Danny needs to get laid
OK, wait a second. Francouer grounds out, but ran the ball out, and because the pitcher didn’t feel like doing much of anything, he gets on base. LaRoche hits a bomb that plates both of them, and Francouer is the one who is more valuable? I swear I don’t get that guy.
The promis land! Where is that?
Another scoreless inning from the Vulture!!! That’s magic!!!
i agree, devine should stay in minors this year and build up his confidence and his back.
Yeah with old men DelGatto, Glavine, Pedro, Floyd
Well the troll is working. No one is talking about the game or anything, just bickering with him/her/it.
I’m ignoring him from here out. Hope some of you will join me.
UH, I thought it was spelled promise.
The Mets will be lucky not being swept by an AL team.
I hope the Mets do trade for Zito. After all, the other two of the A’s “Big Three” have done so well after Beane traded them away. The Mets will be able to order their WS rings as soon as they get him.
Hey we forgot!
Boiler Maker
-One beer
-two shots of whiskey
kc, that’s the Vulture’s superpower- the ability to pitch exactly as well as required to get that sweet, sweet W.
did anyone see the article on the braves site about King Andrus? renteria is keeping his throne warm.
Can’t sleep, delete…
Wow, Adam is killing the baseball!
They would have to give up at least Lastings Milledge if not more.
Yes, Brian, I will take any kind of win tonight.
I agree, kc. A win is a win.
Wow…Mets fans…what a sorry bunch….
my best friend is a mets fan and wants to trade for zito, that was until I told him zito just changed agents to boras. I expect the bidding to begin around 5 years 75 mil. if burnett got 5 yrs 55 mil, zito will be expensive as the premier starting pitcher on the market
ok, the Braves website says the team will promote Peter Moylan in place of Thomson…
The thing is, I don’t think Zito’s that great. I expect him to be just as successful as Mulder and Hudson have been.
It’s not a good year to be looking for starters. Willis and Zito are the best of the bunch, assuming they’re available, and I don’t think either is worth what it will cost to get them.
Zito changed his agent to Boras? My goodness…his old agent must be very pissed.
does anyone think dayton moore will try to get a braves coach (tp or corales) to manage the royals, word is he is looking for someone to replace buddy bell.
Hate King, I hope he will take Fredi.
If we ignore it long enough..it might just go away…
So damn annoying, just like his team
Has Moylan been starting in AAA? Or will it be Barry replacing Thomspn after all?
Maybe Huddy will pitch on short rest after tonight’s short appearance.
Can Mac just delete him from the site all together?
Come on Barry….
J Leeds, Moylan’s been relieveing in Richmond, poorly. The best starter now in Richmond is Jason Shiell.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! I love it!
Dammit!!!
You’ve got to be kidding
Dammit, Barry.
well at least it has been a good game.
From the MLB.com article:
hen Thomson’s turn in the starting rotation comes up again on Tuesday, Atlanta will promote a Minor Leaguer to make a spot-start. The most likely candidates are Triple-A Richmond’s Lance Cormier or Jason Shiell.
He’s using AOL so I’d wind up deleting everyone with an AOL account. I didn’t recognize him in this incarnation at first because his first comment, while stupid, wasn’t trollish. I don’t know how to disapprove him now.
And now I really do have to go to bed. Please ignore him if he comes back.
Someone PLEASE freaking kill these announcers, a more obnoxious announcer does not exist anywhere else.
Can they stop throwing inside? I really miss Leo…
Well, there went the Vulture’s win.
Yea what happened to low and away.
I think that I will follow Mac’s lead, and head off to sleep now.
I should have done that when the Braves reclaimed the lead. At least I’d be going to bed happy.
time for another dip, i always enjoy watching bobby throw one in after a pitching change.
maxine nightengale can always cheer me up
God this guys delivery is quick.
Cla Meredith is a pretty good reliever, even if he doesn’t know how to spell his name.
*sigh*
Guys, this would be the kind of loss that could kill a teams morale..
Does anyone else feel immune to these blown games?
i hate paronto
Immune isn’t the word, Jay, but I’m definitely not surprised.
nice move chad
They don’t surprise me anymore, that;s for sure Jay
I’m more surprised when we actually hold on to a lead every now and then
big inning coming up!
John Schuerholz still thinks the bullpen is just fine.
He is now officially Baghdad John.
Yes, he is no Rafael Belliard.
Wow, Frenchy is really rippin’ the ball tonight.
Khalil Green that is.
Did Chip just give Barfield a pat on the shoulder for catching the ball, and keeping Andruw at second?
That ball would have rolled 2 inches..
Dammit that would’ve been huge.
I am running out of patience with Langerhans as well.
Game over. 4-0, 5-1, 8-5 leads gone. God that f-ing sucks.
Pitching, pitching, pitching…all along, this pitching staff is just not good enough. We can’t expect miracles without Leo…wait, I think Ray is already a miracle.
If Bobby Cox had started the Braves’ real staff ace, John Smoltz, they almost certainly would have won tonight.
i like this ump
Well, Dan, if Smoltz was starting instead of Huddy, the Braves would lose 2-1 or 1-0.
Well see everyone tommorrow.
Please somebody get on so Chipper Jones can bat in the ninth.
Jay, remember the All-Star game?
That is true.
missing very high.
Maybe we can package a deal to get Linebrink and Cameron(play him in left).
Hopefully Renty doesn’t hit into a DP so Chipper can hit.
Don’t steal, Marcus.
that was close
No double plays here Chipper, come on.
No steals neither.
Chipper, no need to kill the ball, just make sure you get a hit.
Just tie thats all we need.
Finally home after my wife’s goodbye party from work…what pitchers do we kill tonight? McBride and Hudson…anyone else?
Dammit, Chipper swung at ball four.
CRap. C’mon Druw.
Popped him up on ball four. Son of a b****.
barry and hudson, throw in a paronto for good measure.
Andruw!!!!!!!!!
hell yes
ANDRUW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Exclamation points are cheap!)
Andruw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YESS!
OMG I think I pissed myself.
Only one problem……SOSA is up.
TMI, Jay. Bye, Trevor. Thank you for performing your Chris Reitsma impression again.
Kevin Barry pitched and was BAD? That sucks.
Will JS go out and get this team an effing relief pitcher? I mean…the offense is obviously doing their job…and can someone explain to me what’s wrong with HUDSON? Arrgggg.
By the way, what’s up with all the evil people on the website tonight? Yikes.
Alex, pretty much everyone except the Vulture!
Andruw, baby ㅜ.ㅜ
exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ray pitched well, two k’s
BMAC!!
kc,
If JS would just get us ONE FREAKING PITCHER…I mean is that too much to ask?
Yeah McCann! (the cans doin a dance!)
Get that insurance.
I can’t believe this. I’ll kill myself if Sosa f***s this up.
that run is UGE.
“Sosa’s up in the pen” and dinner’s up in my esophagus.
Haha , French has had about the worst two hit night I have seen in a while.
Frenchy*
A hit is a hit…
Dan…don’t kill yourself…let’s just all team up and kill JS if Sosa effs up.
If he doesn’t get us another pitcher soon I say we hang him by his suspenders.
Give JS the Ludovico treatment- make him watch every one of his son’s at bats from Richmond this year.
Jay,
I agree…and let’s beat him mercilessly with copies of his book, too.
LOL…Does anyone else think he slightly resembles Richard Nixon.
Alex R., see post #14 of this thread.
1 down.
Damn.
Oh God, walks.
Dan,
Thanks for pointing out 14.
I am officially grabbing my hacksaw and lighting a torch. Let’s all go GET JS and give him a little “Deliverance” love. What a corporate ass kissing fool he’s become–a stooge.
I cannot believe he thinks this team doesn’t need a relief pitcher….is he watching the same team we are?
it seems sosa’s overthrowing
scary
Almost….almost.
One more.
Sosa has hopefully fulfilled his heart attack quota for the evening.
Thank God!!!! I thought that was outta here.
what an OUT. Yes…JS probably thinks this is a “good” save. I hate JS.
Damn!!!
Anyone else relieved that was just a single?
Oh f-ing God, come on Sosa!
HOW MANY TIMES, JOHN! HOW MANY TIMES BEFOREYOU FIX THIS F***ING BULLPEN?
Where’s ububba…he’s the one who thinks LaRoche is a good defensive first baseman. Sosa sucks but that was LaRoche’s fault. effing douchebag.
OH MY FU**ING GOD!!!!!!!!!
Game.
I have no words to express my anger.
how did laroche not catch that ball?
i just threw up
How many times must Sosa implode before he’s removed from closer duty? Twenty? Twenty-five? Give me a number, JS, so I can remember not to watch until he’s hit his quota.
i am straight on the verge of tears
I am past verge.
This is so unbelievable. The offense is hot, the pitching is a hot mess. And no one has the stones to fix the gaping holes.
If JS doesn’t get us a relief pitcher by Monday, we need to find out his address and he should considering hiring a team of private security officials.
KOG, how many times must sosa fuck up before he’s removed from competitive baseball?
skip is conceding a hit
I was just thinking about you, Ken. Is the ghost of Scott Dedman available? Joe Boever? Kevin Coffman? Anyone?
I’m joining the thread now, as I had to turn off the TV to avoid waking my household at 1:45 AM.
Who came up with the Sosa as closer idea and when is it going to end? Why does Bobby keep doing this?
THANK GOD SOSA FINALLY GOT SOMEONE OUT!
sosa should get tazed going back to the dugout
Whoo Hoo a strikeout.
I am past blaming Sosa or the capability of this ‘Pen. If a player isn’t a quality pitcher you really can’t blame him. But, when this below quality player is the best we can put in at closer, It is time to make some deals.
JS…Do it.
Goodness me – this game sums up our season
One out a-lacking too. I knew that comeback win was too good to be true. It was Jorged. Who is left? Beverly Yates?
Adam
Wow
ROACHY ROACHY ROACCCCCCCCCCCCCCHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah good hit Adam.
don’t care
LaRo… oh, hell, how do we blow this lead?
holy mutherfu–ng sh–.
LaRoche did something good.
O shit SOSA is going to hit.
If this game is saved now.
I will thank him.
LAROCHE!
Is Sosa saving again?
Chip
ShutUP!
Okay chip, the hangman idea wasnt really that funny
Ok Skip carey jsut said the Braves club house store has added a noose!
He literally just laughed longer than this thread has been going on.
we went with TYRA Yates and yeah, it’s him or Peter Fracking Moylan.
“The Braves’ clubhouse collection now comes with a hangman’s noose.” -Skip Carey.
Every joke has a hint of truth to it.
eh, I believe he said Moylan was due to arrive tomorrow.
I am so sick of Chip right now, that i rather hear Don SUtton comment on what the late great Gene Mauck would do with his bullpen
I have never seen this many comments, I would say the average is 150-220.
i missed the homer because i was too busy banging my head against the wall, what happened? is sosa really going to hit?
Can anyone blame Chip for getting a little punchy? And when did Moylan get called up?
Best moment of the night if Skip put Chip over his knee and started spanking him until Chip cried on air. How awesome would that be?
btw, what is the record for number of blown saves in a game?
Jay10, we’re nowhere near the record. The Yanks’ game (that ended with A-Rod’s HR) was close to 700.
I guess he is getting called up for John Thomson.
We need six runs now, and then just maybe, just possibly, we could have Chuck James finish it, and we might possibly win by half a run
Alex, I would lose my mind. JS should be in line waiting and then the bullpen should follow him.
Oh, I wasn’t on for that one.
This is sad. Sosa is not a major-league closer. Not even close. Quit doing this to us, guys, and quit doing this to Sosa himself. No one — not any of the die-hard fans, not the team, not Sosa — deserves this.
The playoff game had a buch of posts
KOG, Sosan isnt a major leauge pitcher, he isnt a major leauge bullpen catcher. He isnt a major leauge bat boy. He flat out sucks, and i have three words for him ”Designated for Assignment”.
Isn’t it time, for Willy Startup to get the call from Richmond? Not Moyland.
If we won the game last inning, Ray would have gotten the win and Andruw Jones would have been the hero of the day. Now Sosa could get the win and LaRoche be the hero. I take the win regardless.
AND IS SOSA COMING IN AGAIN!?
Or just make him fake an injury and put him on the DL.(better yet hit him with a fu**ing bat.)
I hope Sosa isn’t coming back out to pitch.
This isn’t even a situation where you say ” If he shuts him down it is a wise decision ” if he shuts them down, I will continue my disapproval.
Bring in Yates.
Smoltz for save!
I think we all realized when Sosa just beat down in New York in April (Mets, not A-Rod) that he couldnt pitch. The fact that this has carried out so long just doesnt make sence. I think Bobby should pitch Smoltzy in the 10th.
” I hate to bring this up, but has any pitcher blown two saves in one game? ”
Even Skip has lost faith.
Bobby evidently had money on the Padres.
Yeah, the “has anyone blown 2 saves?” thing line by Skip was classic and will be missed when the TBS run ends next year.
It makes me want to move back to Georgia and get Skip on the Radio…at least I can for 81 with my XM.
of course the tying run is ON. Why wouldn’t it be?
Honestly, he should have brought in Yates but I can’t even blame Cox anymore. This bullpen is garbage, everyone is gargabe.
This is ill inducing. Just sickening.
Please, for the love of God, get him out there. Hell, have Andruw pitch. He couldn’t do any worse.
I have now officially accepted our loss. Leave him in longer Bobby, brillant idea.
“There’s still nobody out, and this is unbelievable.”
No, Skip. It’s all too believable and entirely predictable.
I’m speechless, i’m just speechless.
Thats it. Fire the coaching staff. Every last one of them, even Bobby. Fire Bobby Dews, Fire Alan Butts, Fire them all. And fire the bullpen. And the bat boys who work it.
if we see the 11th it’s a miracle
I predict : Sosa will proceed to allow the tying run. and than pitch with great stuff and squirm out of it.
right on cue, a double play.
And that’s Blown Save #3 in the books.
Please get the last out, please.
No walk offs.
Yes, Skip, the answer is yes.
Jorge Sosa has blown 2 saves. Screw Hal Gallima.
this is painfull. I was at the houston game last year the 18-inning(er) and this is almost as painfull.
More innings > Walk off.
Well there is the miracle. I guess
I would say I’m going to be sick, but I passed that terminus several innings ago … no, make that several weeks ago.
Maybe if Roger MacDowell took time to teach his pitchers how to throw the ball instead of write in his stupid book, as if hes acting that his opinions matter, we might have a legit chance to beat the Nashville Sounds every once in a while.
More Ironic TNT ads for: “The Closer” and “Saved”.
Hey JS…TNT is trying to send you a message you jackass.
I hate to sound ‘mushy’ guys.
but it’s been a pretty damn good time talkin’ with ya’ll tonight. It’s comforting to know that somewhere out there , there is somebody who is just as mad as I.
“Nightmares and Dreamscapes” is more appropriate, as Skip recognizes, Alex. The Pads put their fifth starter in, Clay Hensley.
Come on Chipper let’s see a hat trick.
The reason you can’t blow two saves in one game is that you can’t have two save opportunities in one game. The second blown opportunity is Sosa blowiung his own win. It still sucks, but it can’t be a blown save.
I honestly believe that the Nashville Sounds have a pitcher who could close this one out. His name is Alec Zumwalt, and yes he happens to better than Sosa. He also happended to be the “throw in” player on the Dan Kolb deal.
Well that was close.
“I see no problem with the bullpen.” -John Schuerholz, as quoted in tomorrow’s newspaper.
Why the fuck is Yates not throwing. Fuck tomarow. We can call up someone to pitch in the pen but good god Bobby, c’mon. I beg of you.
HE DID NOT SAY THAT! he is the stupidest person ever. I bet its in his book.. “When i pretended to matter, even though it was Bobby who drafted Glavine, Avery, Chipper, et la, i knew that we never had bullpen problems. Not even when we had Joey Devine in the playoffs. A man who didnt break camp in spring in the organization because he was in SCHOOL!” Im sick of the utterly piss poor effort from the pen.
A Surprise Party! YAY!
Come on Francoeur. No double play here, please.
just like the pads last inning
There you go Jared Yates is warming up.
okay.
if we can’t win this game now.. I am done.
They just gave us it.
If Yates blows this. Do we kill him?
…now, how do we get Blown Save #4?
Now this has just gotten silly.
No. We don’t kill our ‘pen members. We need them as proof to why we kill JS.
WHO-HOO! More insurance! Three run lead.
GO LAROCHE!
LaRoche is huge!!!!!!!!!
Time for Smoltz, I dont care. Time for Smoltz.
LaRoche! Maybe this is a lead we can actually hold.
no lead is safe
I’m too drained of emotion and too devoid of confidence in this bullpen to smile right now.
If the Braves blow this, they might as well cancel the rest of the season and Mac should close down BravesJournal. I mean, really…enough is enough.
Okay bullpen, time to start thinking up ways to give up at least three runs.
Sosa in line for the win.
LOL Andruw can’t even watch.
Do you guys remember that commercial a couple years ago that was like “Nothing in Baseball is certain, except for the ninth inning at Turner Field… Baseball is Beautiful”
Let Diaz pitch
Hey there sleepy head.(TBS)
Baseball is beautiful. This is not beautiful. The Braves aren’t a baseball team right now. I’m not sure what sport they are playing.
That guy has been out for like 3 innings.
Yates, please. Have mercy.
He might be our closer soon
What if the Braves actually thought that they werent playing baseball. Like i bet Chuck James would be such an outcast.
If they put the tieing run to third, i say we let them hit one out to win
Hey, LaSuck is having a pretty good game at the plate, maybe he can close it out!
How many times is our kicker going to miss the chip shot in OT
Can we get Kolb back?
The Braves are playing real baseball.
The AL, I don’t know what they’re playing with that DH rule. Since real baseball is already dead there, why not go all the why and have a designated runner and use alminum bats, eh AL?
“Where have you gone Wes Obermueller, the nation turns its lonley eyes to you..”
Bring in LaSuck! Bring in LaSuck!
Direct quote from Chip. ” Ughhh. “
Four-pitch walk. Well, Yates is consistent.
I hope Smoltzie is ready for his complete game tomorrow.
Way to go Yates. You suck.
Another WALK? Dam*!
“Ball four … ball eight …”
YES!
DP. One more out and we can collapse.
YES! good play Gilly
OMG GILES smart play.
One more, do the have Big Papp?
As Mac said awhile back, it’s time for Jorge Sosa to go into witness protection, especially if the Braves’ lost.
BRAVES WIN!!!!
Nice play by Chipper
IS IT ACTUALLY OVER? or is this a mirage?
Thank the lord, it’s over.
Another routine win
Wow. They screwed up and accidentally won one!
I kid because I care… a little too much.
I can’t wait until people wake up and read all of this
Thank God It’s over. I am going to curl into the fetal position in bed, cry, and try not to wake up my sleeping wife. Good night, all.
ps–check out Mac’s movie and TV blogs…good stuff…
Yes Thank you…. I am going to bed see everyone tommorrow night, we have another late one.
To quote the first post
“Here’s to an undefeated second half”
The entire pitching staff tried very hard to be on the receiving end of justifiable homicide. Fortunately, the offense bailed us out. Repeatedly.
One pitcher, John. One major-league caliber pitcher. Is that so f***ing hard?
I feel like I have accomplished something in simply sitting through all of this.
This might be the best case scenerio. The Braves win and Schuerholz can’t say the bullpen is fine and will have more pressure on him to make a trade for a realiable closer.
i enjoy the late night crowd, let’s do it again tomorrow, say your prayers for a smoltz complete game tomorrow
Sosa gets the win?!?
That just might be the least deserved win in the history of baseball.
oh my Jesus. I need to be up at 8 tmrw but i could NOT stop watching this game.
wowwwwww
I think we are looking to make a deal, but we havn’t found the right one
However, I think we may go out and over pay for a pitcher now
Adam LaRoche , 5Rbis. @_@
He sometimes make mistakes but I don’t blame him. How come?
He is a cool head at scoring position, and I love his ability. haha.
Thanks, Rochey!!!
I’d call my barber, but he is a sleep. Wait till Mac wakes up and sees what he missed
The Braves reached deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep into their collective team ass to pull this sucker out.
One final note. Phillies lose to San Fran 5-3. We’re now tied for second.
tonights performance by Sosa was sponsored in part by Brad Clontz
Can we get an IP check on posts 215 and 217? I don’t post here often, but I really do not appreciate being impersonated. I can’t imagine what I did to offend anyone like that.
LaRoche OPS basically = to Carlos Delgado’s OPS right now.
Chipper OPS 10th in the league. We DO have a super-star in the line-up.
I’m happy I went to bed in the 8th inning..
I wouldn’t be able to handle watching our bullpen do that shit again…
It’s not good when you miss Danny Kolb.
