Note that “Danny Kolb” is, from what I can tell, NY METS in a mask. Also, if he’s going to talk trash — well, he picked a pretty good time for it, but I’d think he’d want his team to beat a good Braves team — anyway, he should probably pay attention to who’s about to beat us.

Since the Braves have picked near the bottom of the MLB draft for the last 15 years they haven’t been able to pick a (or a few) truly dominant players, i.e. a Lastings Milledge, a Delmon Young, an A-Rod. At this point, we’re playing for high draft picks. This team stinks and is the worst I’ve seen them since the late 80s.

I thought the braves were playing the Nats today…oops :)…your right mac. It’s not a mask. I have used Danny kolb many times. Did you know that chipper jones has more Home runs as a switch hitter then anyone else in base ball? i bet half of them were at shea. LOL
Hey, we got a hit!
Chipper needs to go extra bases here.
And im not bashing the braves Mac, as I dont think I have the right too since the mets have not been doing all that great the past week
Marcus is slowly working back into his consistency. One walk and a single, a good night for a lead off man already.
Edgar!!! Common Chipper…
Chipper!!! I will take a single!
Has anyone noticed that TBS is showing statistics from some completely different season on its crawl?
As long as it’s a single that knocks in a run, I’m cool with it, too.
Thanks–KC
what do you guys think of the nats? much improved huh? they are going to make some noise this year. They make me a litte nervous
Stephen, I never thought the Braves would have difficulty in signing their draftees. I imagine signability is a big part of the Braves’ decision in drafting players.
I love the 2-out rally. 🙂
If BOTH Marcus and Edgar can get on base at 40% rate, then I am not concerned at all about the offense.
More good news, the Phillies are losing 5-2.
Chipper is having a pretty good night defensively!!!
philly losing is great news!
that team has the potential to make a run at the mets…….and then lose:)
WEE KUD BEE TOO AND OWE WIF DANY. HOWE FRYTNINNG IZ THAT?
Hey! Frenchy got a hit!
I’m in a much better mood than I was after the first inning. 🙂
Diaz took a walk?! How did I miss that?
Diaz!!!
What did the Braves give up for Diaz, again? Two hangnails and a box of Wheaties?
He needs a nickname, too, like Ken “Death” Ray. How about “Live and Let” Diaz?
Wait a second…
/Chris Berman
Ah, that’s better.
yeah, my spelling sucks. Im glad you could pick up on that. Ya know I think your the firt person to mention that to me brian. lol
I wonder what Pratt is gonna do….
Pettitte had put himself in a hole.
Let’s bury him.
Just funning you, Danny. You really seem to have helped now that Bobby can’t put you into a game by accident.
Glad to see McCann’s about ready to come back, too.
I would almost rather have Thomson at the plate rather than Pratt
This is a sad inning.
I thought Frenchy can make a bigger tackle than that. That was like a Deion Sanders tackle on Ausmus.
Lord, we managed to get the bases loaded and didn’t even score a run.
We couldn’t buy a break at this point. Hopeless.
Ausmus was off to the side. Francoeur didn’t get a square hit.
Not just the bases loaded kaitlin, the bases loaded WITH NOBODY FREAKING OUT!#(@ )(@*(#&@#$@#
Of course, Thomson will allow two runs this inning.
There is no way the Astros don’t at least tie it up this inning.
We are on the same page Mac. Boy, the Braves are making us two looking pretty good with our predictions.
Crap, please don’t lose our lead Thomson.
Only tieing it would be wonderful at this point Mac.
KC–I agree, but there have been a few players in recent years who did not sign. Given some of the choices that the Braves made in this draft, it would be very bad if they don’t sign everybody they drafted.
Though the good news is Frenchy has looked great at the plate today. And Diaz is still hitting very well.
Of course, when the Braves had the bases loaded, Pratt and Thomson were hitting. When the Astos are having third and first with nobody out, Berkman is hitting. That’s our luck.
We’ve got to think positive here.
OK, I’m now positive we’ve not going to win this one.
CRAP!!
There goes our lead again.
Thomson is getting near his danger level with about 80 pitches
I HATE BERKMAN.
Told ya, game over. We don’t come back from games like this anymore.
Back the truck up, this season is lost. They are a bad, bad baseball team
Thomson exceeded by expectation. He allowed three runs instead of two I predicted…
Thomson’s now past his sell by date!
The worst thing about this is how predictable it has become
I don’t believe this. He’s bringing in Reitsma.
I’m getting so used to this now..it’s not even hurting that much anymore 🙁
My despair knows no limits.
And we’ve obviously given up on this one. Hi Chris.
Reitsma?! I am starting to like that old man more and more.
i want to bitch about the decision to leave thomson in. i know his pitch count was low, but JESUS, bases loaded, one out? Get real. this team needs a win more than life itself and we leave our f’ing pitcher in to hit. call me crazy but that is the worst decision.
Kinda sad….not giving up, but now I find myself laughing at the latest turn of events, because it no longer surprises me.
Of course, Reitsma still can’t find his control on his fastballs. It has been almost three years and he is still finding his control.
Well actually I like Reitsman in at this point. That means he wont be closing any games and he might actually be less worse as a setup man instead of closer.
ryan, this shows Bobby has more confidence in Thomson than in the middle relievers, which is pretty sad…
Set-up man or mop-up man?
After the pitcher gets left in to hit he always gets pulled in the following inning because he gives up 3 runs. Bobby pretty much sets that stage
Ryan, which of these hasbeens and never-weres do you trust to defend a one-run lead for four innings?
Reitsma is also predictable….
How much longer can they keep trotting Reitsma out there? He has less left than Remlinger, which is really sad
Keep walking batters Chris, I know you all too well.
Remy, take your pick
As Reitsma walks the first two batters…..
When are we going to just give up and release Reitsma? Gluttons for punishment.
Over/Under for runs given up by Reitsma in this inning is currently at (2). Place your bets folks!
Well, at least he threw a strike to first……..
Reistma is as bad as Sosa…. They both have to get into trouble before they can start making pitches.
This almost hurts to watch.
REITSMA!
To be honest, I am starting to feel sorry for Chris. He is suffering from Mark Wohlers disease, just less severe.
The walks come home to roost.
As much as we could complain about a 4-2 score, 6-2 is even worse…all I wanted was one more out!
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! Awesome!!!
Reitsma saves the day again!
Maybe we should have a pool on Reitmsa’s ERA…
How many chances does he have to have?
…the Braves pitching sucks…I can’t believe I just said that…
Only four runs lacking!
Baseball is not even fun to watch when it is this f***ing predictable.
Let’s see:
Phillies lose.
Nationals win.
Mets…don’t know.
I’m really worried about falling into fourth place.
Maybe we will read on AJC tomorrow that Hampton will make an emergency rehab assignment at Rome…that will explain why JS didn’t spend the insurance money.
So feel free to laugh at me for this, but I think we’ll come back and win this, and this will be our “O’s game” for this year…
That’s a great way to start a comeback Marcus.
Luckily Reitsma came in so that the Astros could get more runs. They were struggling coming into this game..but Christopher can change that in a hurry. The other team can always count on runs when anyone from our bullpen comes in..
I admire your optimism, Piers, but I have a feeling that, by the end of the season, Berkman’s second homerun will rank in Braves’ history right along the one hit by Leyritz. The momentum completely flipped.
CHIPPER!!!
I’m feeling a little better.
Thanks Chipper. They finally learn to take advantage of that stupid leftfield.
It would be tied if not for Reitsma.
I honestly believe if you get bases loaded and can’t score one run, you should automatically lose. It is so unacceptable. And I blame Pratt, all he had to do was make contact.
Hey hey! 6-4!
Chipper–Good thing that Reitsma has already put this one way….Great Save Chris
Piers, I believe that your optimism had a small something to do with this.
Of course, it would be a tie game if he wasn’t for Reitsma’s brilliant performance.
Anyway, I’m off to bed, so I’ll have to catch the recap in the morning.
Is it too much to hope that Reitsma was one of the players named by Grimsley?
Then someone will allow three more runs in the bottom of the seventh.
If Reitsma would be one of those guys named by Grimsley..maybe he would be actually able to throw a fastball..
Two runs in two inning. I’m not confident. Another heartbreaker.
Though good luck charm Villarreal is coming in. 8-0.
Yes, Dan, Pratt is wearing out my welcome. Free Brayan!!!
Hey now… there’s nothing wrong with Reitsma’s heat. He just doesn’t know where it’s going.
Rob, that sounds like the problem of Danny boy last season.
Game over.
Well, there’s your homerun. Good job, Villarreal.
Of course, how predictable.
You see, that’s what happens when you try to be “optimistic”
Way to go.
Brilliant work by JS.
Oh yeah. And that is the problem. There’s no defending Reitsma at this stage. I admire the heck out of him for who he is and his perseverence, especially right now, but we need good pitching, and he’s not giving it to him. I really feel that his changeup is good enough for him to be a good two-pitch pitcher if he could locate with his fastball. He’s just not getting it done. He’s stinking it up right now.
The Mets are winning 3-0.
This day just keeps getting better.
1-7 in June, here we come.
He’s giving it to them, the Braves, I mean.
Mitch Williams has better control than Reitsma.
OK, you know something, I blew it again. He’s not giving it to them, the Braves, I mean. There. I got it out.
What’s worse is Villarreal will stay 7-0. For Christ’s sake he needs to lose.
I really miss McCann.
How long before the Braves are in fourth? Seriously.
Villarreal may ends up being the winningest Braves this season with seven wins.
Chipper is really having a good night both offensively and defensively…oh well…
Kaitlin, McCann can’t solve the bullpen problem.
That Estrada trade is looking worse and worse.
I really just hope we can figure out something tonight…..I really feel if we can pull this game out, our season will get alot better.
But that won’t happen, now will it?
Mets up 5-0.
This is so depressing. I really feel ill.
I know he can’t solve the bullpen problem, but I miss him in the lineup.
I remember in 1990 when I was so happy just to see the Braves winning a game once a while…I am starting to get that feeling back now…
Guess I know how that feels now.
Don’t worry about the Mets (or Phillies) we are in a race for 3rd place…if this keeps up it will be back to the late 80s…
“But that won’t happen, now will it?”
Nope. Diaz watches a perfect done the middle go by and Pena swings at one in the dirt.
Maybe Lidge will melt down?
HA!
I have a theory.
Yeah, the team needs a number one pick on the team when Chipper retires.
LAroche will still swing and miss for strike 3
Wow, that was the year in a nutshell.
LaRoche assumes he strikes out, walks to the dugout, then realizes he’s wrong.
Go figure…he strikes out anyway.
Thanks Adam
Let’s face it, the Braves smell.
And what’s worse is JS still won’t make a trade.
If that is true, we will either draft another Kelly or a player who will not sign…
13 strike outs. I don’t know what to say.
Of course, that’s Adam. Hope on that kid? Yeah right.
Who would want to trade with us? Maybe the Royal’s AAA team could use some bullpen help.
“Thanks Adam”
And Pena. And Diaz.
13 strike-outs in all.
NIce job, Pokey, real nice.
Yeah…Jorge coming in tomorrow. WE’RE SAVED!
Why the hell is Chuck James not in Sosa’s spot!?
Haha, that’s funny Stephen. I can still remember Mike Kelly. He was the first first-round pick made by JS with the Braves, wasn’t it? And that was a second overall pick behind Brien Taylor. Those two turn out to be pretty good…
Great work JS.
Good ol’ MIke Kelly. Arizona State, IIRC. He turned out great.
Chipper is my hero tonight.
This Diaz guy might MAYBE should BE STARTING EVERY DAY!
Reitsma and Berkman have lead the way for Houston.
Now we must hope Lidge implodes….of course, even if he did, we’d still find a way not to convert.
Please make it stop.
The team sucks so bad that my Firefox crashed. At least that will save you guys from my negativity. I apologize if my negativity bothers some of you. I promise I will stop my complain if you don’t like it. Just let me know.
kc, there is no way that anyone could be positive right now.
Ballgame folks, we lose. What a surprise.
Lidge had been really struggling lately..but he sure had an easy time with us.
Looking up Mike Kelly, he was actually traded two different times for Ray King and Dmitri Young. Wow.
As for JS potentially blowing Mike Kelly’s pick, he’s not alone. The only top 10 pick in that draft to do anything was Dmitri Young, who was taken with the 4th pick. He was actually drafted as a shortstop. Only other noteworthy picks in the first round: Shawn Estes (11th), Doug Glanville (12th), Manny Ramirez (13th), Cliff Floyd (14th), Pokey Reese (20th), and Aaron Sele (23rd).
A win for Oscar and a save for Reitsma…or the other way around…doesn’t really matter…
Dr. Phil couldn’t be positive now with this team.
Yeah, kc. I was the leader of the onslaught against Alex R. the other night for his negativity. But man, it’s tough right now to be positive. Things just aren’t working right now. I really don’t know what to say. It’s depressing.
oh, Manny…he will solve a lot of problem…and create many different ones…
Well, I’m ready to be a fan of stinky Braves, who’s with me?
I’m hoping this is just an ugly dream and I’ll wake up soon.
Night all.
Well, I’ve grown up with them being contenders every year, I’m gonna stay with them till the bitter end!
