Fun Natspos Fact: Actually, they’re not very interesting.
UPDATE
From ESPN.com:
The Game Has Been Postponed Due To Rain And Will Be Rescheduled On Monday, September 18 At 7:05 Pm Edt.
Whee, the Braves lose an off-day in September! I’m sure they won’t need time off then!
Consider this an open thread.
Fingers crossed for another CG
You’d like to see the Bravos take the series at least. Washington just isn’t that good.
Three more days and I can finally go home. This place is hell on earth.
I seem to remember us losing the first series we’ve played against the Expos/Nats for several years now, but am too lazy to go look it up. That said, I hope we win this series, assuming today’s game and tomorrow’s game are able to be played.
Speaking of hell on earth, the Rangers are getting torched by the Devils, 5-1. Yes!
And, from last night, congrats to the Preds fans out there.
I never think about this until we play Washington, but could someone please enlighten me on how blackout restrictions work? Whenever TBS actually shows a Braves game and it’s against the Nats, it’s blacked out where I live (central Virginia). I suppose I’m on the Orioles side of the TV line, because I can watch the Orioles whenever I please (and I live over 6 hours away from Baltimore!). Anyway, I checked tomorrow’s game on ESPN and it did NOT have a blackout mark on it, so now I’m confused. I can’t watch the Nats play on TBS, but I can watch them play on ESPN? Of course, it remains to be seen whether I actually can or not (I can’t remember if I could last year), but it’s strange it does not already have the blackout symbol on it.
The funny (or annoying) thing about this blackout stuff is a friend of mine who lives down the road can watch the Nats play on TBS, but he has cable and I have satellite.
Yahoo is saying the game is postponed. (At least, that’s what it says by Brian McCann on my fantasy lineup.)
Maybe Bobby can use this off day to meditate on how much Mike Remlinger sucks, and how much better off the team would be if he were taken off the active roster immediately.
I’ll defend Bobby Cox to the day I die, and I disagree with a lot of Alex R.’s anger against him, but on this one point we agree: Mike Remlinger is painfully bad, and Bobby should be slapped for bringing him into the game yesterday. He is Tom Martin with a whiter beard.
Come on, JS, find us another Julio Franco in the Mexican Leagues, but make sure he can get lefties out!
Anyone know why when ever the Nets play on Espn the game is blacked out.I live in Charlotte.6 hours away from DC.And I have no idea why the Nets game are always blacked out.someone please enlighten me on how blackout estrictions work
Central and Eastern NC are part of the Orioles/Nats regional TV area. They try to split up the country so that the TV areas are roughly equal I think. That is why I am stuck getting the O’s on FSN. I like the O’s, but I want to see the Braves. It’s just annoying having FSN South and not get Braves regional games.
And thus if we are in their regional network we will get blacked out iff they don’t sell out their home game. Even though it is not very feasible for us to go to the game, which is the reason for blacking out.
The thing is last year Nets game was never blacked out on Espn. Also in Charlotte We get every braves game on Fox soprts South. It to bad that MLB don’t do like the NFL where if you stay 90 miles away from the city .If the game is not a sell out then it a blacked out.But if you stay more then 90 miles away from the city then you can see the game
Saturday’s 7:05 p.m. ET game between the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals has been postponed because of rain. The game will be made up on Monday, Sept. 18, at 7:05 p.m. ET at RFK Stadium.
boooooo
If you think listening to Tom Paciorek was bad, Larry Conley is the color analyst for FSN SEC baseball. On now..
Oh, God, I’d tried to forget Conley on baseball. Why? I mean, they can’t find a baseball player? Or someone younger than 70?
Conley’s decent (if a miserable Kentucky homer) on basketball.
Well, that’s just another cupcake game for the Braves down the stretch. still, losing that off-day hurts.
Better than trying to play in this downpour, and I can use the tix in September. Good night, John Boy.
awww. well them I’m just unlucky here in Chapel Hill then
I’ve seen alot of Pena haters on this site. Hasn’t he played pretty good defense? Ok he may not be an everyday player but when 3 out of 4 of your infield is down I would say he has done OK
The problem is that the Braves don’t have bad defensive infielders (BP’s inexplicable anti-Chipper jihad aside) and little need for a purely defensive backup. They need guys who can contribute offensively, either with the bat or on the bases.
The worst-case scenario is that Pena’s admittedly strong defensive play dupes the Braves into thinking that they can afford to trade Betemit, who is ten times the player.
I’m kind of upset that I know this, especially since I hate Kentucky with a passion, but Conley also played baseball in college. So it makes some sense that he would be announcing baseball. I agree it’s still kind of awkward, though.
I’m starting to believe that we need another unexpected Nick Green or Charles Thomas fill in. Both of them were never heard from before (and after for that matter) and they both replaced bad players. (Green replaced the awful Jesse Garcia, Thomas replaced the speedy Dewayne Wise)
The problem with defensive replacements in general is that they should only be brought in in the ninth inning of a close game unless there is an injury problem. However, whenever Bobby Cox has one, he starts them in half the games, saying they “need at-bats.” This is the most retarded thing ever. They are defensive replacements precisely because you don’t need their bat. In fact, you don’t want their bat. You should be trying to keep defensive replacements out of the batter’s box at all costs. They couldn’t hit the ball out of the infield if it were placed on a tee. This is why they are defensive replacements. Cox doesn’t seem to grasp this in the least, and this ruins any use we have for defensive replacements.
To be honest, if I had any faith whatsoever that Cox would keep Pena’s ass out of the batter’s box, I would not be at all opposed to booting Pete Orr’s worthless hide out of here and installing Pena as our defensive replacement (assuming Pena can play second). From a defensive standpoint, I would much rather have him out there with a one-run lead in the ninth inning of an important game than Renteria or Betemit, both of whom can be kind of shaky at times defensively. However, we can’t do this, because we all know that Cox will wind up starting Pena occasionally and using him as a pinch hitter just to satisfy a righty/lefty matchup occasionally and mindlessly pinch-running with him, robbing us of our defensive replacement occasionally.
And we can’t afford to have all this happen because Pena is an absolute disaster in the batter’s box. I mean I knew he was gonna be bad, but I think I underestimated just how bad it was gonna be. I think all but maybe 10 starting pitchers in the National League have a better chance at getting on base than he does.
The weather is really nasty up here. Glad I didn’t have to endure it at RFK.
Pena will be gone once we get everyone back from injury, and he’ll be even more gone when Kelly Johnson comes back. Speaking of which, there are currently 5 players on the DL or in the minors who I think are virtual locks to be on the roster later in the year: Chipper, KJ, McBride, HoRam, and Devine. Who goes down when they all are up? It seems like Pena and Moylan will likely be the first hitter and pitcher to go, but what about after that? I suppose its concievable that HoRam gets dealt or something, but the Braves seem hellbent on having him do something, either in the pen or replacing Sosa in the rotation perhaps. Anyhow, who do you think are the three guys most likely to be droped from the roster after Pena and Moylan?
got this off CBS
News: Braves SS Edgar Renteria (rib cage injury) wants to return to the lineup Sunday. “I’m debating whether to do that or not,” manager Bobby Cox said.”
shucks Mac, I thought you revive the Roger Mc poems request after last nite. You know the “Dan Kolb of pitching coaches” or whatever.
You’re not kidding, Mac! The Braves now have to play 17 days in a row in September (8th through 24th).
At least there will be callups available to improve the depth of the team for that game. Yeah, playing 17 days in a row does suck. Seems like they prefer taking away off-day from players than playing a doubleheader.
Well, it’s been a pretty boring day here in Bravesville. During one of my study breaks, I ran across this webpage selling a set of 22 rookie cards of the current Braves roster. We have so many young guys that a lot of them look exactly the same, but I was rather amused at some of them. I thought Renteria’s was particularly funny, and there is no way I would have even recognized John Thomson. Also, Andruw is rocking a pretty sweet molestache. Cut, paste and enjoy.

You know, it’s wierd, I didn’t collect cards very seriously and not for long, but I have an inordinant amount of those. Chipper, Tim, Edgar, Pratt, Jordan, Thomson I all got in my extremely short time of collecting. And Marcus and Ryan I got rather recently just because I like them.
Nick, dead on post there…..
I used to get a lot of Jim Acker cards. Every pack I bought had one. This dates me, I suppose.
I’ve seen a lot of pictures of Thomson’s early years, and I swear I wouldn’t ever have recognized him if his name wasn’t attached to his picture.
