I am imposing a special league rule that states that you must draft a Brave. Either the first round will be all Braves, or I’ll just rely upon everyone to choose one. The first would be easier but would also be hard on the last few teams to join.
Rotisserie scoring, weekly transactions (on Sunday). I’ve replaced WHIP with K/9, and stolen bases and batting average with OBP and SLG, because it’s my league and I’ll do what I want to.

Maybe it would be good to require us to start our Braves as well. Otherwise people can probably wait until late to draft a Brave and then dump him or just keep him on the bench.
I don’t think it would be fair to force people to start Pete Orr. Or Horacio Ramirez, for that matter.
Gosh, I hope I get Boyer!
Is there a league where the objective is to draft the WORST players. Then we could be cheering everytime Foster came in to pitch relief ……
There’s the HACKING MASS contest at BP.
Once the league is full-up I will put it to a vote of the owners. I’m leaning towards not having a Braves-only round but everyone needing one at the end, which would only be a problem if several people double up.
I have never seen that before – I’ll check it out. How do you ensure that everyone picks a Brave – does the drafting option force us to do it, or is it up to all the owners holding up their end of the bargain
It’s up to the owners. If we do the first round thing, we’d need those who aren’t there to make sure to rank Braves down to their drafting spot, which might be a problem for the guys at the back. In the other case, we’d probably have some people who don’t have a Brave but could pick one up on waivers.
OK – I just realised that draft day is the day I return from vacation so not sure if i’ll be on-line. At least there’s a plan. I think the first round option is better – those at the bottom of the draft get a much better pick for round 2 so it sort of evens itself out (though not quite)
Hooray, I’m in!
I have a feeling this will be a tough league.
I have dibs on part of Jay Powells broken tendons
I know there are leagues where you’ve got to try to get the players who will play horrendously but still play. The objective would be to get guys like Sidney Ponson who are horrible players but play regularly despite that. In many ways, it can be even more challenging, becuase when someone is really, really good for you, that means they’re REALLY hurting their team and are more likely to get benched.
The key is to find the guys who suck, but whose managers have an inexplicable attachment to them (and/or) are perceived as good defensive players. It also helps, if you’re in a league that doesn’t count SB, to pick Tony Womack.
Just got back from the Hot Stove Gathering in Rome. Got to see Marcus Giles, Saltalamacchia, the 06 Rome field staff, and Dayton Moore. Nothing really to report….there was a short Q and A with absolutely NO revelations. Salty said he’d focus on catching for now but would do whatever it takes to make it; Marcus said Renteria will be a great addition to the team. Etc, etc. The best part was that I was able to get a picture of Giles with my daughter, then Salty with her. Cool event!
upload the pics!
neifi perez is shaping up to be an excellent hacking mass pick.
christian guzman is also a fan fave.
Oh Christian Guzman. LOL. I think his performance last year should earn consideration for the hacking mass HOF. Seriously, it was laughable. Go look at his stats. To whet your appetite: he only had 1 more total base than games played. If you’re feeling real adventurous, see how many pitchers you can find that had a higher OPS.
Cristian Guzman is the A-Rod of HACKING MASS, but all sorts of Natspo hitters should be considered. That place is a tomb, which makes good hitters look average and average hitters look poor, and poor hitters into Cristian Guzman. I look forward to Alfonso Soriano’s term there. Wonder what he’ll get on the open market coming off of hitting .260 with 15 homers.
Anyone hears anything that the outfield wall at the RFK may be moving in for the coming season? I know the Petco Park is moving in the right field wall by 15 to 20 ft.
Wow, 20 feet! Must have been in Brian Giles contract
Here is an article about the closer’s role from the AJC

Three in a row, but I read on mlbtraderummors.com that Carlos Lee may be on the market and we may be one of the teams looking at him. Don’t know if that is good.
Well, there are worse players
Carlos Lee is the Panamanian version of Andruw Jones, only with more hits, fewer walks, and worse defense.
A lot fewer strikeouts, too. Last 3 years: 95 HR & 324 RBI. However, makes $8 M.
No plans to move the fence in at RFK. The Nats view it, correctly, as an equalizer.
There was a pretty fun hubbub about this last season, when the Nats’ beat writer, Thomas Boswell, snuck out on the field one morning and measured the wall. He found, as he knew he would, and as all the Nats suspected, that the walls in the power alleys were 15 feet further than the distance sign indicated. Center field was pretty accurate, only +/- 1 feet, and the poles were pretty accurately labeled too.
The Nats’ response to this was not to change the power alley footage signs, but simply to slide them laterally toward the poles until they were correct.
It’s at least good to see that Reitsma has confidence in himself! I guess we’ll wait and see what happens.

John Sickels has posted his list of the the Braves’ top 20 prospects. A lot of the guys on last year’s list aren’t there because they got so much playing time last year, but several guys who were called up but rarely used are still there: Chuck James, Joey Devine, Anthony Lerew, Macay McBride, and Brayan Pena.
The list is at http://www.minorleagueball.com.
League’s already full!
