Well, Mike Hampton sure looks ready to go. We’ll see how his knee feels tomorrow, but tonight he went seven innings, allowed only three hits, didn’t walk anyone, and struke out three. And he only needed 75 pitches to do it. Smith, Martin, and Reitsma finished the game out.
The only problem was that the Braves had just two hits and no walks. It would be a greater concern but for the starting lineup, which lacked Andruw, Drew, Estrada, Furcal, and Giles. Adam LaRoche was back in the lineup and provided one hit, but the game’s only run came on a solo homer by of all people DeWayne Wise.
Hard to get worked up about this, obviously. The Braves have opened up a 2 1/2 game lead on the Dodgers for the second-best record in the NL.
