SI.com – More Sports – Kasten out as president of Atlanta teams – Monday November 17, 2003 4:26PM
He probably wants out before the Braves’ payroll cuts. He wasn’t likely long for the Hawks and Thrashers jobs anyway, with those teams up for sale.
How does this affect the Braves? Probably not a lot. It removes a level of insulation between Scheurholz and the suits. I don’t know if that’s good or bad or indifferent.
I saw it also as portending lower payroll – either he’s getting out voluntarily before it drops, or they’re getting him out because the team is no longer as profitable as it once was, which then would lead to lower payroll.
So, c’mon people! Are we getting Sheff back or not? Who has the scoop? Should I even consider it a possibility?

I have just learned of Stan Kasten’s resignation.
Currently living in California makes it very hard
to keep up w/ the Atlanta sports scene.
As a former Public Relations Consultant, I handled Personal Appearance Bookings for a number
of Atlanta’s best-known Professional Athletes.
(Among these were Zane Smith,Mick Luckhurst, and
“Tree” Rollins.)
While having the pleasure of working with The
“Ted Turner” Athletes, I found Stan Kasten one
of the classiest guys in the Sports Management
Business.
If ever I had a question, Stan always was able to
help me out.
THANKS STAN FOR THE GUIDANCE THAT YOU BROUGHT TO
THE ATLANTA SPORTS SCENE!
I’LL NEVER FORGET YOUR KINDNESS!
