Anybody else going to be at the game tonight? I came real close to putting on my Glavine shirt this morning, but decided to go with the Maddux shirt instead. Perfect weather for a ballgame here today. I am soooo amped for this game!
Has there ever been a similar match-up before? HOF caliber long-time teammates now pitching against each other.
I really hope its a 1-0 game.
Maddux gives up 2 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the first. I hope I am wrong, but looks like so much for the hoped-for pitchers’ duel…
Well, he settled down after that. Actually, I thought that if Giles were at second he would have gotten out of the inning.
ESPN mentioned Frank Tanana and Nolan Ryan going at it, that’s the closest I know of. Tanana wasn’t a HOFer, of course, but he won 240 games. Of course, he lost 236…
I guess it depends on how you define “longtime” teammates. I mean, Steve Carlton and Bob Gibson were teammates for five-plus seasons, though Carlton wasn’t Carlton until he went to Philly. They must have faced each other a number of times afterward.
