ajc.com | Braves | Braves sign Shane Reynolds to one-year contract
It’s not a bad gamble. He’ll only get $300K this year, with a $3 million mutual option for next year. (What’s the point of a mutual option, anyway?) On the other hand, the Astros out-and-out released him, his velocity is reportedly around the interstate highway speed limit, and Leo has enough crises on his hands without this.
Reynolds will join the Braves on Friday. I assume one of the young pitchers — probably Hodges, since he’s pitching tonight — will go down to make room.
Reynolds is Paul Byrd’s replacement. Probably Hodges pitches tonight and then goes down again, though it might be Dawley or one of the other relievers that have yet to be used.
