I told you we wouldn’t see Byrd vs. Millwood tomorrow. Christ on a crutch… This signing is officially a disaster. Byrd needs a bone spur removed and will miss 2-4 months; the odds of him being useful at all this year are slim to none. Scheurholz should give back his salary for bringing Byrd in.
Joey Dawley or Trey Hodges could start tomorrow, or the Braves could use Horacio Ramirez on three day’s rest.
I see this as opportunity time. The Braves were going to be in something of a transition mode anyway with respect to their pitching staff as the old stars all aged. JS’s typical solution, of course, was to sign other old guys rather than giving much of a shot to the kids. Well, now we’re getting to try out ramirez, and Bong may get a look also. This year may end up being no great shakes, but at least it givesthem a chance to get a look.
