ESPN.com: MLB – Johnson OKs deal, but will Hampton land in Atlanta?

There’s an AP report that Mike Hampton, traded tonight from Colorado to Florida, will be shipped on to the Braves. Hampton makes a lot of money, though Colorado is picking up some of his salary. By my calculations, he would still make $12.25 million a season, over six years. Tom Glavine’s best offer is a little over $10 million per year over three seasons. Unless you’re sure that Hampton is going to be better than Glavine, and that he’ll still be useful in six years, bringing him in — for more money and at the cost of players — seems foolish to me.
