I think it’s a good day to recall our late founder Mac Thomason’s thoughts on the city of Philadelphia.

Philadelphia, known as “The City of Brotherly Love” ever since Benjamin Franklin invented sarcasm in 1767, is the largest city in Pennsylvania and a suburb of New York.

I don’t remember the exact year Mac started Braves Journal, only that it was before my time here, but I feel like we must be approaching more time without Mac than we had with him.

The Braves did what they had to do Friday, and did what they wanted to do on Saturday, and it would have been nice to have gotten greedy on Sunday and get the sweep, but it was not to be. It was the Phillies with the big inning on Sunday, putting up 7 in the top of the 8th to bust open a 2 – 2 tie.

Grant Holmes lasted only 4+ innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs without striking out anybody. Ray Kerr came on to give the Braves 3 scoreless innings, but both Dylan Lee and Victor Mederos struggled in the 8th. Lee gave up 4 hits and was charged with 4 runs, leaving after getting 2 outs. Mederos could not get out of the inning, allowing 4 hits and a walk, and the final 3 runs. Bailey Falter finished up.

Michael Harris II, Mauricio Dubon, and Matt Olson had 3 hits apiece for Atlanta, and Olson added his 39th home run in the 9th to provide the final score.

The Braves come out of the series with a 5-game lead over the Phillies, and 3 fewer games for each team left to play. The first of the Braves remaining 12 comes Monday at Wrigley Field at 8:40 Eastern, Reynaldo Lopez and David Peterson scheduled.
