First, you can go to yesterday’s game description and plug it in here. The only difference was how Pierce Johnson blew the game and the inning he did it in. Game description complete.
Second, about today’s featured image. As you know, I watch a lot of Braves baseball. My dog, Boola, is pretty cool about it. She mostly just sleeps on the ottoman you can see on the lower left. Suddenly, however, as the bottom of the 9th began, she got off the ottoman and began staring intently at the screen from about six inches away. Even my dog knows this is a team in trouble. At least one of us can bear to look.
I’ll close with more Samuel Beckett, who I will continue to cite until something looks less bleak:
“There is no escape from the hours and the days. Neither from tomorrow nor from yesterday, because yesterday has deformed us, or been deformed by us… We are not merely more weary because of yesterday, we are other, no longer what we were before the calamity of yesterday”
Speaking of tomorrow (and tomorrow and tomorrow, to quote someone else) Spencer Strider takes the mound.

Sorry guys, I tried to send a post on the last thread but for some reason it didn’t send. It is below. Btw, is it time for Phil Collins?
Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap!!!!
Those 1-run games will get to you.
The Braves are 0-9 in California this season.
I see the problem. JonathanF has kidnapped SnitBear.
I wondered if anyone would notice that. But no. That is my late wife’s childhood teddy bear. I will say it is sufficiently fragile that this bear and Marcell Ozuna have equally brittle hip joints.
when we scored 1 run on bases loaded and nobody out we knew this was over. I did go 2-0 in Strat-o-Matic hockey though so silver lining.
I had that same feeling.
While we’re on the absurdist train, Nine Ballplayers in Search of a Manager might work.
Perhaps my least favorite, modern “fun” in-game distraction: this stupid Snitbear contraption.
But back to the topic at hand: watching Braves games with wonderful hound dogs. It’s one of my favorite hobbies. Back in the Chris Reitsma days, where epic collapses were almost as common as the 2025 version of the Bravos, I had a beloved rescued beagle who’s nickname was BLB: the Bad Luck Beagle (who always seemed to be laying beside me with each regular meltdown or blown save).
RIP to that dear ol friend.
Among the NL Wild Card field, the Brewers have the lowest winning percentage above 0.500 (0.538). That puts them on pace for 87 wins. The Braves need to go 60-39 (0.606) to reach 87 wins. But the Giants, Cardinals, Padres, and Phillies are all on pace for >91 wins, so 87 wins likely gets you nothing. To get 91 wins, you need to go 64-35 (0.646) the rest of the way. So, yeah.
Yeah, we’re screwed.
Apparently there’s a fire at Oracle Park. Smells like 1993.
Bryce Elder = 8 innings 1 run
Peirce Johnson = 1 inning 2 runs
I’d have let Bryce try to finish it.
I still think we need to get rid of Montero and Iglesias and keep Kimbrel and a rookie (Harris or Burkhalter – Harris is a lefty and doing great and Burkhalter closed in college).
REALLY frustrating for that to happen with two outs in the 9th. Even walking Chapman and giving up one run would be better.
Elder threw 107 pitches. There’s no chance a pitcher not throwing a no-hitter will be allowed to go out for the 9th with 107 pitches in this day and age.
Of course, you’re right but if you don’t have a reliable bullpen. I’d rather risk Elder’s arm than take another walk-off loss.
3 outs away from a sweep and 10 games under.
The ghost of Eric Gregg just called strike 3 on Verdugo.
Sigh…
Three games in San Fran and three one-run losses.
Remaining in June:
3 vs MIL
3 vs COL
3 vs MIA
7 vs NYM
3 vs PHI
This team could be buried by July 1.
Recapped.
I would say this is a must-win tonight. We need to be able to start our third 7-game losing streak ASAP.
