Yaz was dead: to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that. The register of his burial was signed by the clergyman, the clerk, the undertaker, and the chief mourner. Snowshine signed it. And Snowshine’s name was good upon ‘Change, for anything he chose to put his hand to.
Old Yaz was as dead as a door-nail.
Mind! I don’t mean to say that I know, of my own knowledge, what there is particularly dead about a door-nail. I might have been inclined, myself, to regard a coffin-nail as the deadest piece of ironmongery in the trade. But the wisdom of our ancestors is in the simile; and my unhallowed hands shall not disturb it, or the Country’s done for. You will therefore permit me to repeat, emphatically, that Yaz was as dead as a door-nail.
It is still Christmas in July!
The rest of the game was every bit as eventful, as Shearlucks managed to only give up 3 solo shots and the “B” bullpen team was acceptably bad but never broke. Somehow the Natspo’s starter gave up one hard flyball after another only to finally get burned by Ronald and Yaz and his bullpen. It looks like snow tonight.

I’m not sure exactly why they bothered to create the Internat, but sometimes it comes in handy: https://scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2021/11/19/dead-as-a-doornail/
Nice work, and God bless us, every one.
I remember one of my uncles saying “dead as a doorknob” and knowing it was wrong but couldn’t logically think of why. Now I know!

Gimme gimme. The Profar money is going to spend well.
Tarik Skubal and Gleyber Torres sure would fix our two biggest problems.
Personally, I’m pessimistic about what AA will do for this club over the weekend.
Oh for sure. We will actually get Jorge Soler and a 7th inning guy. Trading Ritchie, Cam, Lodise and Hartman for a couple of rentals and then having Skubal randomly give up 5 runs in his wild card start would make me sick
I think this time it’ll be Joe Addell.
There was something highly entertaining about last night’s game in a way that not all close games are. Maybe it was the free-swinging and the very high ratio of balls-hit-hard to runs scored. Or maybe it was James Wood’s miscue on Dom’s sinking liner — watching Dom Smith running the bases is one of this season’s small pleasures.
Looks like Casey Mize might be available. The Tigers scratched him from his scheduled start tonight.
He’s not an ace, but he’s been above average for his career (95 ERA-/97 FIP-/99 xFIP-). He would help stabilize the rotation, for sure, and I think he fits the “playoff caliber starter” bill too — I could see him starting the third or maybe even the second game of a short playoff series.
Now you’re talking sense. Why pay an absurd premium for 2 prior Cy young’s when Mize is probably just as good in a short series.
An article in the Athletic about trade prospects mentions Mize as a good fit for Atlanta, but comments: “Value: Homer prone former No. 1 overall pick
For his career, Mize has an ERA about a half-run lower at home than on the road (this year it’s more of the same). With the ball acting more lively and the right-hander sporting one of the highest fly-ball rates in the league, it’s fair to wonder if a lot more homers are coming. His current homer rate is a little less than half his career norm, so you’d already look for regression there. Depending on the cost, he could be a serviceable acquisition as a back-end starter. Anything more would be too much to part with.”
So, yeah, if we could get him cheap…
I would absolutely take Casey Mize. I would be happy with Mize or Detmers, Joe Addell, and Pete Fairbanks.
Another tweet from Peanut:
“Ha-Seong Kim’s rehab assignment will expire tomorrow. When asked if they have discussed what Kim’s role might be, Walt Weiss made it a point to say how well Jarvis playing, especially defensively. My guess is Jarvis remains the SS, regardless of whether Kim stays in the organization.”

I can certainly see the Braves selling and buying. I can see why the Riley and/or Murphy to Giants rumors make sense.
I love the work Hernandez did tonight. I hope he is not rewarded for his long outing and saving the bullpen by getting DFAd tomorrow. I know Atlanta has found a loophole and they are trying to bring up other arms after someone pitches several innings, but I really don’t like it. As someone who hates more rules most of the time, I wish there were more guardrails to keep that from happening.
Phillies lost, division lead is 8 games again.
yep. Back to 8 games up. I watched the Phils and O’s on MASN and they said the Phillies are especially good when their top 3 pitches (Sanchez, Wheeler, Luzardo) (20+ games over .500) and especially bad when their bottom 2 or 3 pitches (20+ games under .500). That makes them especially dangerous in a short playoff series…..
Recap coming around midnight.
