The #Braves today returned RHP Jimmy Herget from his rehabilitation assignment and reinstated him from the injured list after optioning RHP Daysbel Hernández to Triple-A Gwinnett following yesterday’s game.
I’m feeling nostalgic. Shades of Gant and McGriff.

It was extremely Eddie-like for Rosario to take horrible swings all game, then just reach out and poke one over the fence. Don’t mind seeing the solo shots! I would still love to see this team run more, but I’ll take what I can get.
But seriously, great job by Schwell Maps.

After the last week, any safety is a welcome sight
ALSO: Do not trade Schwellenbach

I thought it was a night game—just now tuned in. (Shows how closely I’ve been following this team lately). But what a performance by PDQ! Has he looked as good as his line in the box score indicates?

I don’t want to overreact to one start, but what I’ve seen from Schwellenbach all year has been encouraging and it seemed to come together today in a super important game. I could see him having a better career than our other Spencer and I like him a lot too.

I know everybody trying to tell me that Strider trying to strike everybody out is not bad for him, but I’m convinced that it is. I agree that I would bet on this Spencer instead. Seems more sustainable.

Schwellenbach threw 89 pitches with 62 strikes. He allowed 2 hits and struck out 11 over 7 innings. Not sure how you can be much more dominant than that.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Do this 60 more times and we’ll be in good shape.

Nacho is 1 for his first 19 with no walks.
Jesse Winker to the Mets.

We really aren’t going to upgrade the outfield, are we?

AA is getting shut out. Like I said, it looks like no one wants to trade with him any more. I guess there’s still Lane Thomas, any number of Angels or A’s. I hate the waiting. I’m not sure we’ll get anything, but you never know until the deadline is past.
I wondered before if we already had all the upgrades we were gonna get.

I will say that I ignore all trade rumors because there is no way to predict AAs moves. The moves in 2021 were not exactly universally lauded but they worked out pretty well. Same with picking up Johnson last year and Sale and Lopez this winter. Deals in 2021 finished about 10 minutes before the deadline ended.
On Scwellenbach, gotta love this quote in the NYT from Mendoza
“He was pretty tough. Slider is really good, but that cutter at 94-95 (mph) to go with some kind of four-seam with sink at 97 when he needed to, makes for a pretty tough at-bat. Especially for the righties. The velo on the cutter and that slider. … Pretty good arm.”

Who’s left??? Arozarena, Chisolm, Winker were all good fits and rumor has it the A’s don’t want to trade Rooker. That kinda leaves Angels (Ward and Rengifo) and Miguel Andujar, Maybe Luis Robert but that would take a pile of money. We need help in the OF and at SS. And we need to get guys healthy. Seems like a tall order to have missed on what’s already gone. In 2021, Joc came pretty early. I suppose we’ll see but I’m not optimistic as we’ve added Rosario, Merrifield, Laureano, Gurriel, etc… already. We even added and dropped Brian Anderson. AA has gone through a lot of “names”.

One piece of news from DOB in the recap:
“Max Fried is progressing toward a return from the injured list not long after the minimum 15-day stint required when he was sidelined by forearm neuritis coming out of the All-Star break. His IL stint is retroactive to July 18.”
DOOMED! Why does it seem like 0-0 is as good as it’s going to get?
Of course we’re getting no-hit by a sub-replacement-level pitcher. Imagine if they had somebody good
B2B… Hey, just like old times…
