Spencer Schwellenbach has made 7 starts. Fact. Spencer Schwellenbach has a 5.07 ERA. Also a fact. However, from my perspective, Spencer Schwellenbach is NOT a 5.07 ERA pitcher. If FIP had anything to say, it would agree as his FIP sits at 3.57. And xERA is shouting from the back row that he’s a 3.90 pitcher. And lastly, xFIP, FIP’s former cousin, says Schwellybelly is a 3.63 pitcher. However, what FIP, xERA, and xFIP can alll agree on is that ERA has been wrong thus far and the eye tests agree. Matt Waldron will face off against Spencer in game 1 of the series in San Diego.
Whit Merrifield Wants to Be a Brave
Whit Merrifield was just released by the Phillies and is looking for another job. In an interview held sometime during this season. Merrifield implied that he’d like to be a Brave. Something to watch out for these next few days.

Whole lot of balls to the warning track by our hitters. Frustrating. Last year they’d have gone out.
Good luck to any of y’all who are trying to watch this one on the teevee. With all the broadcast difficulties, you’d be better listening to it on the radio (or using a VPN to get MLB.tv for the Padres feed).
Fourteen innings without a run and counting.
Now that inning was a sight for sore eyes. Even Duvall and Arcia got in on the fun, and I loved seeing Rosario try to bunt for a hit and catch the defense napping. It turned into a sac bunt when he just hit it a bit too hard toward first, but I’d love to see more of the team try that kind of thing. It’s exactly the kind of creativity I’d love to see – just like how I’d love to see the team attempt more steals.
