Braves vs. Diamondbacks, Round 2! Is it odd to say that the Diamondbacks are good? Because it feels odd to say the Diamondbacks are good. It’s pretty wild, but the franchise peaked in their 2nd season when they won 100 games. They went on to stay above .500 and win a World Series in 2001, becoming the fastest expansion team to win the dance. From 2004 on, they’ve finished above .500 6 times and if the pace continues, 2023 will make 7.

Transaction a Day AA
I figured Kolby Allard would hit the 60-day IL when I heard “shoulder” in the injury announcement. What I did not expect was that Forrest Wall would get the call to replace Sam Hilliard who’s replacing Eddie Rosario (I discussed Wall a good bit in this piece). Wall was making a name for himself with brilliant May and June, then he fell off a cliff in July, collecting only 1 hit in 31 PAs. While I expect Wall to ride the pine then go down when Rosario is ready to go, I sure would like to see him get a start at some point in his time up.

Braves Journal Question of the Day
If AA can find someone to take Marcell Ozuna and his contract at the trade deadline, should he do it?
This is great! Rob…he made it!
I will never get tired of hearing people talk about when they got the call.
I, too, thought the Braves would add another reliever to the 40 man for the short term.
There aren’t a lot of options for the 5th starter next time it comes up. It will most likely be AJSS for a couple of starts before Fried is ready to be activated. Shuster has pitched poorly recently at Gwinnett and Dodd is hurt (and bad).
Elder is regressing.
In regard to Ozuna, it would depend on the return.
TDA signed to a 1 year 8 million extension with an option for 2025.
No luck for Elder with the error, but he definitely appears in full regression mode again. Even with Max returning, another reliable SP is needed.
Oh, we’re back with another 1st-inning rampage…
Bryce has a 2.455 WHIP and an 11.00 ERA since he was selected to the All-Star team as of 2 out, no out in the top of the second. It’s regression with a soupçon of the jinx of praise. But right now, he looks like Kolby Allard out there …
Bryce Elders luck has run out . Back down to 2 reliable starters
All you really need in the playoffs, I guess?
Strider didn’t exactly excel the last time out. I am back in the mindset of needing starting pitching.
Nothing 10 runs won’t cure.
Except when Arizona is going to score 15
Good idea, let’s make it 16.
(sigh)
I think it’s time to start getting the catchers some DH time again.
Hilliard hurt now too.
The pitch clock expired before Riley’s homer. I’ll take it, though.
It’ll take a miracle for the Minter-and-Anderson-less bullpen to hold up the rest of the way. Feels like it might take at least 14 to win this.
And the defense tonight is piss-poor.
Completely. We fall asleep at the wheel quite a bit on defense. Tonkin missed location a couple times and gave up two strike hits and here we are
Our pitching staff is hot garbage right now
“I don’t think the score is going to finish 12-11” being uttered in the booth guarantees that the score will finish 12-11.
I think perhaps we should consider scoring again.
Yup, I thought so!
Not sure 15 will be enough.
Who pitches the 8th with both Minter and Anderson hurt? Yates? McHugh? Rodriguez?
Not a bad night for our worst all star.
Sure makes up for an awful night for one of our other All-Stars, but we had so many, they can’t all have a night at the same time
He may have to be moved up a spot.
The HP umpire hasn’t been good tonight.
Kali 2 is pitching like he wants to rip out the hearts of his team’s fans.
That was a great play by Riley–didn’t hesitate but also didn’t rush the throw.
Typical Yates inning with his lack of command leading to a self induced rally resulting in runs scored. This jack ass bullpen does what it does Great play by Pillar.. Eddie would have played that into a bases clearing triple
Olson has had a brutal night defensively.
Unreal. We are playing absolute horrible baseball since the break. This is high school level defense yet again
Tell me about Olson’s great defense again …
I just want to point out that someone in this game is going to be deemed a “winning pitcher.”
Defense doesn’t give him any breaks, but Iglesias is not a closer with whom you win a title.
This is an abominable loss.
Gawdawful pitching and defense tonight. What a horrible loss this is going to be.
Raisel can’t even get an out. I wish I had not watched this mess. Maybe Charlie C could get us out of this…..
Eugh.
There’s a rumor on Twitter by several people that Paul Dejong is about to be a Brave. My question would be why?
Unless he can come out of the bullpen…
I suppose he would be an upgrade over Culberson. But I would expect Shewmake or Grissom would be on any hypothetical post-season roster in Culberson’s place anyway.
I think the most likely answer to your question is: Twitter, that’s why.
Ditto, boss!
Recapped.
I don’t believe comments are turned on, Alex.
