The Braves have not had the most favorable of weather conditions thus far. In fact, the Braves enter today at 7-3, only playing 10 games on the season. the lowest of any team in the NL (the Twins have also only played 10). Allan Winans was recalled earlier in the week and he’ll get the start today. Last year, Winans pitched in 6 games at the MLB level and carried a 5.29 ERA, but his expected results were actually much lower. Also, with the new rules that MLB has put into place, it’s not automatic that Winans will get optioned right after the game as players with options can only be optioned back to the Minors 5 times per season. With Spencer Strider on the shelf, I’m sure the carousel will continue to spin, but we might not see as many call-ups for a reliever between 5th starter starts as we did in the previous years, at least until the 5th starter solidifies.
Braves Lineup
Adam Duvall back in there against LHP Jose Quintana while Chadwick Tromp gets the start at catcher.

Hello from Dublin! Will be watching the Braves tomorrow night in Miami and then following Saturday in Atlanta vs. Rangers if anyone is around. Go Braves!
PS. Really like CJ Nitkowski. I think he’s been great. Frenchy is still my favorite but if he wants to do less broadcasts, CJ is the guy to go to.
Our starting pitchers inability to throw strikes seems to cost us runs every single game. These walks have been killers.
Also, you can’t hang an 0-2 pitch like that to Baty after he looked so bad on the first 2 pitches. Bury it in the dirt for goodness sakes
So when everyone was gushing over the starting pitching depth 2 weeks ago, did you imagine we’d be starting Winans before tax day?
It’s my understanding that’s strictly based on the way the spots fell in the rotation. He’s just making one start.
Another run against us due to a walk. We are really struggling to punch out hitters without being crafty, which leads to walks since we have to constantly nibble.
I’m convinced these guys hit the bars in the Battery on the unexpected off-night and got plastered.
I know we are 7-3 but it just doesn’t seem like we are playing any kind of complete baseball to this point. Starting pitching has been overall mediocre and the bullpen has been good until the last couple of games but we are asking a lot out of them when the starters have not been great. Offensively we just seem a tick off and are swinging through more seemingly middle middle fastballs than normal.
Outside of López and Sale, the starters have been horrible the first 2 turns through the rotation
It’s gonna be hard with a guaranteed loss every fifth game.
Yeah most definitely. Maybe not the best idea to try Winans against the Mets for the 3rd time out of his seven starts it would appear.
Nothing 10 runs won’t cure.
And there’s a field goal to start…
Nothing 11 runs won’t cure.
I get that it’s only a few games, but our vaunted bullpen . . . ain’t so vaunted.
Nothing 20 runs won’t cure.
That was absolutely brutal.
Well, after a rough go, we welcome that spot on the schedule that reads: Miami Marlins.
Here’s to a South Beach Sweep.
