For some reason (bias by MLB and / or national media against our club, most likely), a team which plays in a city with typical highs in the 70’s around Opening Day goes to 2 other cities where you have to consider risk of snow. Is this sane?

If you are wondering about the sewer thing, in the late 1800’s Chicago reengineered the Chicago River to flow south to take the sewage that way to get it away from the lake front. And the “Southside” is south of the Chicago River. “Northside” is north of Des Plaines River and “Westside” is west of both of those.

Monday was our first chance to see Charlie Morton this year. He was quite effective. A little over reliant on the fast ball, BUT IT WAS EFFECTIVE. We have to apply a “White Sox discount” to that, however. 91 pitches and 57 strikes. The Curveball was not as effective, but we don’t think that will take over. 5 and 2/3rds IP with 2 BB’s, 3 H’s and 6 K’s. K / 9 over 9? check. WHIP under 1? check.

By the time Charlie left, it was 6 to zero. So, maybe a little of the fastball usage was “get this one over to avoid a replayed rain game and post the W and move on.” Every starter (there were no replacements) got at least 1 hit. 5 players got a walk. “Double Trouble” manifested itself to the White Sox with 5. And Austin Riley powered one out. Lots of offense.

Dylan Lee 2 K’s in a perfect 1 and one third) and Tyler Matzek (3 K’s in 1 inning) finished this one off. The staff put the “Golden Sombrero” on the White Sox best player (Luis Robert). Late rain delay, restart, rain cancellation. So, we saved one inning of pitcher use.

It appears highly likely tonight will be rained out and tomorrow will be snowed out. I haven’t seen anything yet on possibly moving today’s game up (MUCH better chance of finishing without suspension for rain). But, maybe we will get to enjoy a Reynaldo Lopez start.
