Head, shoulders, knees, and toes, knees and toes…
In Nick Anderson‘s first year in the big leagues, 2019, he threw 65 innings between Miami and Tampa and the results were extraordinary (2.5BB/9 and 15.2 K/9). Out the gate, the stuff was there and the numbers have always been that of a top-tier reliever. Unfortunately, heath has really derailed his career.
- 8/20/20: Right forearm strain
- 3/27/21: Elbow Injury
- 9/8/21: Neck Injury
- 3/26/22: Elbow Injury
- 9/21/22: Foot injury
- 7/8/23: Shoulder Injury
After his 65 inning campaign in 2019, Anderson pitched 19 MLB innings in 2020, 6 in 2021, 16 in 2022, and 35.1 in 2023. Staying healthy has always been his achilles heel.
From season’s birth to July 7th, Anderson pitched in 35 games can carried a strong 3.06 and a 4K/BB rate. He was well on his way to workhorse status…then the shoulder called an audible.
Anderson was put on the IL and rehabbed a grand total of 2.1 innings at Gwinnett before calling it a year. When the season concluded, it’s my guess that the Braves saw the writing on the wall, knew Anderson was likely headed for a long rehab or surgery, and traded him to the Royals for cash.
Anderson will be approaching his 34th name day when the 2024 season begins and I hope that he can find life’s elixir and stay on the mound for a full season.
