Well…unlike the town they play in, the Mississippi Braves are not blazing hot. It didn’t start out so bad. After 5 games, they were 3-2, then they proceeded to lose 8 in a row. Their record now sits at 5-10, but we don’t really care about record for the minors. It’s all about individual development and today we will look at the players in the Braves AA affiliate that performed well in Week 2. *Today’s piece will cover a little more than a week as our last update was April 11th.

If you missed the first installment in this series, here’s week 1 of the Mississippi Braves Top Performers.

Mississippi Braves Top Performers

Hitters

Milligan has been a force of nature this season and could be a good bet for an early promotion to AAA very soon. He’s a strong fielder that can play a variety of positions, but has only played 2B and CF this year. Beau Philip is a glove first guy that’s showing some pop early on but I’d have to see much more before I even label him a fringe MLBers.

Pitchers

De Avila and Gonzalez both seem like guys that could be something, but have real control issues that harness their development. Alec Barger, who is a fantastic athlete and has a big arm, looks to be putting it together this year. He could be a candidate for the bullpen in late 2023 or 2024.

Last piece, I referred to a site called Outfield Fly Rule, which covers all of the Braves Minor League systems. However, today’s site, Our Sports Central, focuses on the Mississippi Braves. Check it out if you’re ever wanting some extra info on our AA affiliate.
