7 in. a row and looking for more, the Braves will send Spencer Strider to the mound against Blake Snell. Strider’s FB velo is down 1 MPH, but I wouldn’t read anything into that as there are a few variables likely in play:
- It’s early and he’s still stretching out.
- Colder weather.
Still, the variables haven’t slowed Strider down from striking out the world as he’s average 15.2 K/9, but is also walking 4.5/9. I’m sure Strider’s goal is to go deeper in tonight’s game as he was visibly frustrated his last start when Brian Snitker pulled him after 5.
Strider’s counterpart, Mr. Snell, has had a rough go thus far and has only pitched 13 innings total in 3 starts. He’s still carrying a great K-rate but he’s also walking a ton AND giving up a lot of dingers, and the Braves are a team that walks a lot and hits a lot of dingers. Hopefully this trend will continue.
Braves News
It looks like the Brave will be getting another bullpen arm back soon as the team announced this earlier today.
I’m guessing that AA won’t be able to find someone with an “injury” like he did with Lucas Luetge, so I’m guessing that McHugh will replace Danny Young, who has actually pitched well since being called up.
Braves continue to acquire players with upside and draft pedigree. Nick Solak was drafted in the 2nd round in 2016 and has experience in multiple defensive positions. Solak feels like another attempt to find a RHH bat to fill the LF platoon and I’m down for that. And…of course, he has an option.
Tonight’s Braves Lineup
It’s time, Strider. Strike those Mother Jammers out.

I think he’s about ready.
sorokaaaaaa
I’m thrilled about Soroka; it’s clear he is ready and they need to call him up. But how do they handle that roster-wise? Would they send Elder back, even though he’s pitched better than anyone? Do they try a six man rotation for a while?
So glad we keep giving at bats to that loser.
Strider can’t let himself get rattled when he gets squeezed. Yes, he had strike 3 on Soto and was robbed … but he’s gotta forget it.
What an absolutely God awful at bat by Ronald. Dude threw balls on 9 out of 10 pitches so you swing at a ball in the dirt and then hit a weak double play grounder. Had a chance to break it open and then not…
Not many comments in the game threads anymore. 6 comments in a game thread seems pretty light in the 5th inning in a game against the Padres with Strider on the hill. Are people struggling to adjust to the new site or is the care factor just not that high in April?
Historically, game thread comments are low on West Coast games. I didn’t catch a stitch of the game last night. I was in bed by 8:30. Looooooong day.
Yeah, I haven’t caught any of either of the Padre games so far. I would add we weren’t consistently having game threads in the past, so often times the previous games recap was the next game’s thread. I’d guess comments are probably spread out more between the game threads, recaps, and the Bar now. I suppose Ryan has some analytics on this.
So does Strider come back out for the 6th? That was a very efficient 5th inning for him.
And he does come back out. Good to see
Uncle Jesse strikes again
Albies!
At what point is 4 for 47 and .085 enough to say it is over for a player?
Matty O doesn’t hit many cheap ones
Time for the baseball stylings of Kirby Yates
Every time I looked away we got a 3-run HR. Maybe I should look away more often……. 🙂
Strider certainly has no-hit stuff. I just can’t see him going 9 innings with his pitch-count. But he’s got the best chance of any Brave to start a no-no. It’s been too long since we’ve had one.
I’d be fine with a combined no-hitter, like we had with Kent Mercker and Alejandro Peña and them.
Also, recap will be up shortly.
