As a general rule, if a recap is going to include the words, “lost their third straight game to the Padres,” that’s not a recap I’m going to write. So, while my fantasy team — Volquez & Denorfia are on it — is thankful for today’s events, said events will not be recapitulated in this space. Instead, the previous thread will be restated in its entirety in this space, because we really, really want as much feedback as possible on the question posed therein. (The idea, as you may recall, is to gather in remembrance of Mac.) Thanks in advance, everyone!
So, for those of you who are interested in coming to a Braves game with your fellow Bravesjournalers — we’ll be in Atlanta for the July 26th-28th series against the Cardinals — we were looking for tickets, and there is a big question to ask: do we want cheap seats, expensive seats, or somewhere in between? There are 12 different options, but the real question is, do we want:
a) Cheapest available — $13 or $24
b) In the middle — $36-$48
c) Higher end — $52-$65Which would you prefer?
We should have been swept hereafter;
There would have been a time for such a wound.
Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from off day to game day,
To the last out recorded of the season;
And all our flameouts have losing streaks lit
The way to dusty Turner. Out, out, brief Division lead!
Regression’s but a walking Upton, a poor player
That struts and frets his called strike upon the plate
And then is walked no more. It is a tale
Told by a frediot, full of Ks and sac bunts, scoring nothing
Today can be blamed on fluky babip.
Let’s just pretend the schedulers let our guys have a three-day vacation in San Diego before resuming the season.
Best Gattis fact I’ve seen: Evan Gattis has performed Tommy John surgery on Dr. James Andrews.
@1 – very nice.
I believe we have played 38 road games, more than any other team in MLB. It’s half of our entire road schedule. We are in a very good spot if we just beat up on the Phils and Wash the rest of the way.
Johnny Smith died – probably not too many cool boppers on this board, but he was one of a kind.
Evan Gattis once took a vacation to the Virgins Islands. Afterward they had to rename them.
1- Bravo! Certainly Braves Journal has taken a literary turn of late. Perhaps I will one day contribute to it; perhaps you’ll be lucky.
Giants and LolMets coming to Atlanta; there’s something to look forward to. For tomorrow is another homestand.
When my son started tee ball a few years back, his first team was the Phillies.
My daughter started tee ball this week. Team? Mets.
Come on!
Thanks Spike!
I bought my first really nice baseball glove today and I’m in love. I was still using the same glove I had from over a decade ago, and my company is joining a softball league and I thought it was time to splurge on something better.
Regarding Stu’s question, can people please just weigh in once and for all on the question about tickets? From the last thread, it sounded like people would generally prefer the lower end to mid-range — in other words, $24 or $36 seats. Is that correct?
What glove did you buy Bethany?
Since I’m looking at that Saturday afternoon as my target now, my only non-negotiable is that is has to be in the shade, i.e. third base side. I’m flexible on price, but I generally like cheaper tickets better.
@7
I had to learn a Johnny Smith arrangement (solo fingerstyle) of Black, Black, Black. What a beautiful song for solo guitar! Just a genius arrangement by him.
Don’t know that much about Johnny Smith really, but there’s obviously a great career there and a musician I should know more about than I do.
@14 It’s a Louisville Slugger Pro-Flare model.

Low to midrange, third base side (shaded somewhat.)
Just go with that. Build it. They will come.
@12: Bethany: does the first half of your opening sentence have anything to do with the second half? Either way, congratulations.
spike, cool! … my turn
Yesterday when i was young
so many many curves just waiting to be hung
so many sliders slid to where they can’t be hid
i tried to hit them all and oftentimes i did
the thousand fans who stayed they trembled at my name
my passage to the Hall i so deserved the fame
but strength would fall away i could no longer swing
and all that now remains are memories and bling
Yesterday when i was young.
@ 13, If I am able to go, I’d prefer the low-mid range option ($24-$36).

partisans in rapture
unbecoming, quite agree.
After Sonnet 116
Let me not to the thwack of ash on hide
Admit impediments. Hits are not hits
Which dribble up the third base side
Or take a funny hop off cleated pits
Oh no! It is the solid knock I crave
That makes necks crane and flashes pop
It is the goal of each Atlanta Brave
In struggling for the Eastern top
Whiffs suck big time, but mighty pokes and clouts
Bring cheers and accolades and mucho bucks
The second term of OPS creates the shouts
Mere OBA is made for spindly clucks
If this be error, based on datas
Then never was there Evan Gattis.
From previous thread – a standing O for Game, Blauser said.
Just now saw that and cracked up.

I prefer to regard the last three days as the trip where the Uptons got it together and started strokin’. (Where is Clarence Carter when you need him?)
Middle-range is fine as long as we don’t have to sit in right field. Terrible seating out there, imo.
Low to low-mid.
Umpires taking over the game in Colorado. Back-to-back balk calls against Rockies RHP Wilton Lopez in the top of the seventh; multiple ejections follow. Second balk brought home the tying run for the Natspos. Even on a Braves off-day, the umps manage to screw us.
Low to mid.
If I’m able to come I’m happy to sit wherever you all would like.
I’ve lurked here since Mac featured a drawing of Schuerholz as a Royal blue monster but still have only posted a handful of times. That said, I would have loved to join you folks at the Cardinals game but I will likely be out of town. However, I did want to make you aware of an excellent deal. If you have a AAA membership, Braves tickets are 1/2 off. I’m not sure how many tickets you can purchase on one membership, but it would probably be something to look into. Enjoy the game!
me too, anywhere…50/50 chance
and now…
Jason Marquis’ ongoing verbal confrontation with his catcher this week covered several innings…never directly confrontational but loud mutterings and facial contortions to match that were easy to see on tv – you felt you could almost hear them…he went on and on and on…now, the revenge of the catcher?

@30, great tip!
Unless I’m reading it wrong, it looks like the AAA deal is 2 for 1 upper box seats. Still a good deal, for sure, but not half off any seat in the house.
That’s funny, I was told by a Braves ticket guy that it was a 1/2 off deal, but not that it was limited to upper box.
You’re right – that is what it says, and I’ve only used the deal for upper box seats in the past. At least
I can confirm that it works for them.
I’ve seen a lot of games at the Ted over the years, and I’ve long believed that the low rows of the upper box are the best value in the stadium. Great view, and there is always some deal on them.
I like the upper box just fine. We’ve done a bunch of the “Bark In The Park” days and you’re right, the view is great. It’s kind of neat seeing the above the field view. And you can really stretch out, which is nice.
@1 spike
As a Shakespeare fanatic, I have to tell you that you got game!
Mac would’ve loved that.
And JonathanF-a sonnet was ne’er better’d than yours today
Go Braves!
Watching Django for the 2nd time. Man, I love this movie, my favorite of Tarantino’s.

OK, I’ve decided that I’m in for the Bravesjournal meetup during the July 26-28 Cardinals series. Like everyone else, I would cast my lot in favor of not buying the most expensive tickets, particularly since the ones really close to the field tend to be roastingly hot during day games (the Saturday game starts at 3:05 PM, the Sunday game at 1:35 PM). Likewise, the seats in RF aren’t much fun at night, since you’ve got the sunset in your face for a while.
As far as mid-priced tickets go, perhaps my favorite spot is the back rows of the Terrace Level seats, as they have good views and get plenty of shade from the overhang of the upper deck. That said, I would be happy with Upper Box seats or wherever people want to go.
New thread.
