Kyle, from the last thread, I ran the Peachtree this morning as well. Got placed in the last group, so unlike last year I showed up at 8:30 instead of 7:30 and only had to wait 15 minutes to cross the starting line!
The weather was beautiful, and was the sole reason I shaved about six minutes from last year’s time. Unfortunately, that still adds up to 74 minutes, but I got from point A to B. It’s a blast to have people cheer for you one day a year.

even brave announcers recognize the obvious-anyone would rather face Mr, Off-balance lunge (Andruw) than Chipper. I am ready to face it, and 84 games are enough data points-Andruw has lost it as a hitter. Thank goodness the $16,000,000.00 comes off the books after this year.

Andruw has hit behind 3 on-base machines in KJ; Renteria; and Chipper. The RBI’s are easy when there is always on base.
The question is-do we dump him now for prospects, or take the draft choice when he leaves…if Andruw ends up with these numbers, is he even a type “A” free-agent?

I think Bobby is trying to keep Andruw feeling good, hoping AJ will again take a big home-town discount. Boras is NOT going to let that happen, and we are not going to out-bid the Angels; White Sox; Red Sox, or whomever decides to heave some stupid money on the table.
You know, if you love Yunel, keeping him at 2B and moving KJ to center and taking AJ’s money for a top of the line starting pitcher is not a bad direction to go.
I would take AJ for one year as his again walk -year (not that that gave him incentive to show up in great shape and have a great year), until we can figure out what minor leaguer (the other Jones? Blanco? Schaefer?) can take over in CF.

There’s a reson Tomko wouldn’t cost much. Over the last two years, in a forgiving ballpark, he’s had ERAs of 4.73 and 6.14 (including tonight). He has had an ERA better than league average (after park adjustment) twice in 11 seasons. We’ve got enough bad pitchers already.
Smoltz will miss his next start and the All-Star game after ending a throwing session early on Wednesday due to his sore soulder. He’ll fly to Atlanta on Thursday and meet with team doctors for an examination which could include an MRI, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. However, Smoltz says he’s confident his shoulder just has inflammation.

Broncos 17, Giants 6 late in the 4th quarter… er, 9th inning.
In the 46 appearances (39 starts) that have followed, he’s 11-19 with a 6.80 ERA. Sorry Rog, but I think he lacks having good pitches. 92 mph flat fastball in the middle of the plate is like BP. Time to move on.
Imagine this…….Of the active Major League pitchers, who have made at least 40 starts since Davies’ May 21, 2005 debut, Davies’ 6.19 ERA ranks the highest. The only worse mark (6.31) among any pitcher who has made at least 40 starts since then is owned by Mark Redman, who was released by the Braves in May.

Beedee,
You are right. Davies needs to go down and get his head on straight. At this point, I have no idea if he is or isn’t a major league caliber pitcher. The problem I gather from the mlb site is that he doesn’t either. Confidence is a must in a game like this. And at this point, short of Redman, who wouldn’t be at least as capable as Davies, if not better?

Moylan got through the inning, but I would hardly say he looked sharp…we really need more runs….
get it started chipper
There’s a reson Tomko wouldn’t cost much. Over the last two years, in a forgiving ballpark, he’s had ERAs of 4.73 and 6.14 (including tonight). He has had an ERA better than league average (after park adjustment) twice in 11 seasons. We’ve got enough bad pitchers already.
Golden Sombrero?
bout time!!!
Tomorrow we need “Take Me Home” or the super-awesomely bad “Something Happened on the Way To Heaven.”
I knew “Sussido” would turn things around. Who performs in a three piece suit anyway? Oh, Phil Collins of course.
ANDRUW?!?!?
8 game hitting streak, too bad the avg is still the same
Andruw!!
i’d rather not have tomko
Well, whadya know?
An Andruw blast.
Congrats on 1000 runs with the Braves, Andruw
well at least Yates isnt getting any rest
good pitching right there
per ESPN
Smoltz will miss his next start and the All-Star game after ending a throwing session early on Wednesday due to his sore soulder. He’ll fly to Atlanta on Thursday and meet with team doctors for an examination which could include an MRI, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. However, Smoltz says he’s confident his shoulder just has inflammation.
I HATE JUAN PIERRE!!!
Broncos 17, Giants 6 late in the 4th quarter… er, 9th inning.
good inning by Kali
smoltz and MRI in the same sentence is never good
Let’s tack on some more.
Mets kicked their extra point, but still bit the dust, 17-7.
doesnt really matter, but the Marlins just lost. Also Josh Johnson was taken out of the game, his hand went numb. That cant be a good thing
josh johnson has “the hand of the stanger” 😉
stranger…stranger. man spellcheck is my friend
better hope we see the good Soriano and Wickman tonight
you said it man, i’d hate to see what bobby does if they blow this game.

Roger thinks that Kyle only lacks confidence.
Take a look at the Mets pitchcount tonight… Some crazy stuff… 233 total, with Mota throwing 43 in 2/3, Hernandez with 107 in 4 innings.
In the 3 games in Denver this week, the Rockies have outscored the Mets 34-12. Ouch.
Salty looking like a 1B
send davies down like they were going to at the end of spring training. he is toast right now, and is doing the team no favors with his performance. i just wish we had someone to replace him.
OK, fine.
Let’s win this game like we’re supposed to—no surprises.
Hey Wickman, this isnt FLA. Time for a save.
Also, I’m looking forward to us beating up on Penny (10-1) tomorrow. Seems like our kind of pitcher.
well if Davies wants confidence send him to Richmond. Try Villareal, trade for someone, or call up Reyes and pray for the best. Something has to happen, we lose Smoltz for any period and it could get ugly
Beedee,
You are right.
Who are they gonna call up, you reckon? Reyes? Hodges (God forbid)?

As Skip would say, now would be a good time for some insurance…
if smoltz’s shoulder goes were screwed
just wondering, but who is a better closer right now than this guy? Nathan? Rivera? Reyes? I dont know
#137 – someone mentioned earlier that they may just go on short rest. Makes sense since Davies didnt go three innings and James only threw 75 tonight
timo,
the awy things are looking with the rotation we’ll have to trade for someone and/or troll for recent releasees
can someone from the Braves replace Smoltz on the A star team. Can we send Renty or is it up to the LaRussa
Smoltz can throw with his arm hanging off his body. And probably well.
@141 I’d guess whether they go on short rest or not depends on what the docs say about Smoltz. If 10 days is enough, they may go on short rest. If he’s going to be out, then they won’t want to tax a staff that is about to get even more work.
csg,
Wagner’s been pretty great this year, too.
I want anyone other than Barry!
what a shock
Not necessarily, Rob, but I’m sure Smoltz can throw left-handed.
Is Buerhle completely out of the question at this point?
Golden Sombrero ahoy. Well done, Andruw.
Andruw 4k’s and 1 HR. Just enough to keep his hit streak alive and for Bobby to leave him at clean up. Francouer wasnt this bad last year
4 Ks and a homerun is actually an improvement for Andruw. Ugh.
How could someone possibly be this stupid at the plate.
@149, if that’s true, Smoltz could’ve been our #1 and our #2 all along
And who bats clean up if Andruw is pushed down the order again? Harris (or Escobar), Renty, and Chipper are such a nice 1-2-3 punch.
c’mon butterbean…slam the door on these fools
Time for Wickmania….
@156
i’d go with b-mac. i know his numbers haven’t been super, but he’s pulling out of it and he’s smart at the plate.
@156
Free Salty! (or McCann, I guess.)
player of the game
Escobar 3-4 1RBI 1 Run scored
or
James 5IP 4H 1ER 2BB 3K also 1-2 and a Run scored
It won’t be long before Salty’s cleaning up.
the dreaded final out.
I wouldn’t mind seeing B-mac in clean up. Maybe Diaz would be serviceable too considering his average.
McCann has looked anything but smart at the plate, but you’re right, he’s probably the best option at this point. ugh.
C’mon, Wick, make yourself a Betemit sandwich.
Oh boy.
just throw strikes
oh no, wick looks uncomfortable out there.
Yeah, after ball four he looked really uncomfortable.
unbelievable
god damn it…what gives?
one out, that’s all we’re asking for.
wickman must be hiding an injury.
does this guy look like Olivo?
#172…
or a sandwich
Why can’t we make this easy?
hold your tongue csg…no freak’n predictions please
Ughhhhhhh
http://www.espn.com
just click it…
good job from the Pen, unlucky hit from Furcal. Wickman keeps it interesting
good win, Happy 4th!!
See you guys tomorrow
ALL HAIL SUSSUDIO!!!
The game isn’t over for me!
#176 – I’ve learned!!
Awesome.
Sussudio, indeed
bobby just ate an entire roll of tums.
thank god we got the win.
GO BRAVES!
Wickman! A nice win for the Braves….
came late, and I saw that druw put up the 5th run by himself, but I think Vin can stop calling them the Jones boys now. I’ve only seen one so far this season.
Yates has now pitched in the last 5 games in a row (one off day included). Did he kick Bobby’s dog on accident?
Whew. I’ll take it.
I’m just glad Andruw Jones is on the front page of espn.com….for sucking..
i’m a little late on the well wishes but HAPPY 4th OF JULY!
231 years, who would of ever thought this group of cast offs could make it this long?
Good win. No one hit the ball hard in the ninth, so I’m not too worried about Wickman. Glad to see we’re not getting out number 3 on the warning track.
Yeah, happy 4th everyone!
Su-Su-Ssudio. Oh-oh-ho-ho.
Just say the word…
WIN!
