Have a friend who is going who rubbed it into me a few days ago. He is rooting for the Padres because he has a man-crush on Khalil. Hopefully I’ll be rubbing it into him the next time I talk to him.
Now boys, lets leave the rubbing down to a minimum.
Can’t wait for tonite’s match up. Baseball tonite will probably give it the obligatory 30 second clip sandwiched between 10 minutes of Yankees and 10 minutes of BoSox.
Typical Benitez. Gets behind everybody, gives up a hit, gets an out, then loses his mind over a ball/strike call. He walks Chavez, then the Giants drop a pop fly in that inning to load the bases.
Then, of course, Benitez really gets unhinged, gets behind Wright 3-0 & gives up a double.

From the mlb.com notes. Smoltz/Hudson have combined for 13 quality starts in their 14 total starts and the Braves are 11-3 in those games. The rest of the starters have 4 quality starts in 18 total starts and we are 9-9. We really need some help at the back of the rotation, especially with Chuckie seeming to implode. I hope they let Lerew have a crack at at least a few more. Also, our bullpen leads the leauge in wins with 10.

Just thought I’d let everyone know we are probably in store for good things tonight and tomorrow. Besides the obvious fact that Smoltz and Huddy are pitching, history has shown that whenever I pick out a Braves game to go to, but end up not going, good things happen. I wanted to go to a particular Braves/Nats game last year but didn’t, and Frenchy hit a walk-off slam. Earlier this year, I at first wanted to go the Braves 2nd home game but instead went to the home opener, started by Redman. The next game, the one I originally wanted to go to, Smoltzie outdueled Glavine for a Braves victory. And just yesterday, I tried to scrap together a last minute trip to see tonight’s and tomorrow night’s game, but it just didn’t work out. So that’s my scientific reason to expect good things the next two nights.
wow, the braves and mets have been neck and neck all year long. Who would have seen the season playing out like this. Its very exciting to say the least
Tim Hudson versus David Wells tomorrow. Even if the offense is cold, can we still beat BeerGut Man?

Point of Discussion:
With Soriano and Gonzo pitching like they are, does anyone think it is possible that Wickman could get traded around the All-Star break to a desperate team trying to make a playoff run with a bad bullpen situation?
Whats up with this…back-to-back with solo hr for the pads…
Jeff M.
on May 9, 2007 at 7:12 pm
No Wickman isn’t obsolete. The more arms the better. This is actually a wonderful problem to have–three guys that can be trusted to close. It provides flexibility.
But, if he really isn’t completely healthy (and won’t be at any point in the season) and someone’s a sucker out there–well, now you might be talking, lad.
Seven pitches for Greg. Classic work for him so far. You have to admit it. Now we’re the ones complaining about the things that other teams’ fans have had for years.

That’s sad that Woodward plays once in a blue moon and has more hits than the rest of the team combined, lol. Ok, maybe not combined, but it seems like it.
Yes, Jay, we know. We all saw it. Overeager? Frustrated? I would guess they were eager to tie the game. At least we don’t have to deal with Maddux anymore. And Woodward’s coming up.
Meredith doesn’t have much of a platoon split. It wasn’t a bad move. It just didn’t work out. It’s pretty odd to criticize it considering all the flak that Cox gets for overplaying the lefty/righty nonsense.
You don’t understand. I have a continuing mission to prove that I know absolutely nothing about the game of baseball. 🙂
Checking the 3 year splits does show a pretty pronounced platoon advantage for lefties. Still, Bill James would say that 189 AB isn’t much of a sample.

Hahaha, that’s great.
Giants just scored and are trailing the Mets 2-1 in San Francisco in the fourth inning.
Go Giants!
Matt Morris strikes out the side and Dave Roberts hit a two run homer off of John Maine. Giants lead 3-2.
Boom.
Two-run HR from Dave Roberts, 3-2 Giants, bottom 5th.

Mets done in the top of the 7th. Still 3-2 SF.
Tie game. No help from Brad Hennessey.
Now now boys and girls. Lets keep our mind out of the gutter 🙂

One runner stranded for both teams. At least Andruw hit the ball to center.
The nerve of him. This is baseball season son! There is plenty of time to be sick between November and April.
dayum!
well that could have been better
And, of course, we’re down early. Thanks to a guy who had four hits.
“Flu like symptoms” is usually code for a hangover.
Smoltz is leaving pitches up, two hits with 2 strikes on his hitters
Anyone betting for a repeat of last night?
Smoltz has allowed four hits already. Hopefully, Greg doesn’t burn him.
Make that five.
Let’s see the Eephus!
Wow. One of the very few times I’ve been proud to be a Braves fan.
Crud, this ain’t going well now.
I wonder if John will plunk Greg now on the next at bat
is smoltz sick?
Just that one run. I’m hoping for a repeat of last night.
I hate seeing our pitchers trying to sneak fastballs past hitters when their ahead in the count
When he was standing on first, it looked like Maddux asked for the ball he hit off Smoltz. Anyone else see that?
“I hate seeing our pitchers trying to sneak fastballs past hitters when their ahead in the count”
It works for Soriano…
He’s probably the only guy it works for. Maybe Gonzalez too.
Ooooo, Frenchy single.
nice Frenchy…
Almost Thor…almost.
Dan, he also throws 97-100 mph
wow, the braves and mets have been neck and neck all year long. Who would have seen the season playing out like this. Its very exciting to say the least
Seven more innings, anyone think we can get one?
Tim Hudson versus David Wells tomorrow. Even if the offense is cold, can we still beat BeerGut Man?
Point of Discussion:
With Soriano and Gonzo pitching like they are, does anyone think it is possible that Wickman could get traded around the All-Star break to a desperate team trying to make a playoff run with a bad bullpen situation?
Is Wickman obsolete?
Yes, it is quite possible. I don’t know if it’s possible without the Braves paying for his salary.
Bigger hole.
People forget quickly now. Wickman was amazing until his back was hurt. If he comes back and pitches well, why trade him?
And now it’s 2-0. How come all their hits fly out and the Braves’ ones die on the warning track?
Whats up with this…back-to-back with solo hr for the pads…
No Wickman isn’t obsolete. The more arms the better. This is actually a wonderful problem to have–three guys that can be trusted to close. It provides flexibility.
But, if he really isn’t completely healthy (and won’t be at any point in the season) and someone’s a sucker out there–well, now you might be talking, lad.
Maybe they’re just hitting fat pitches. Anyone can do that.
I meant back-to-back games with 2 solo HR for the Pads.
Assuming that’s all they get.
Good GOD, 53 pitches through three innings.
Who’s up for a long relief stint from our friendly neighborhood Junkball-Man?
Are the Braves ever going to hit a homerun again?
Another comment by me…
Seems like classic Maddux quick work so far. Harris and Chipper are the only ones to work the count.
Yes, Dan, the Braves are going to hit a home run gain. Only children believe that they aren’t.
Come on Andruw….
Nice…a little help from Brayan.
Nice toss, GE-off.
You know exactly what I meant, Sam.
Sure, mock Geoff after he just blew a big one in our face.
Meh.
Yes, I do, Dan, and I take things literally. 😛
Excuse-me swing outs are nice when they’re not done by the Braves.
OUUUTTT
those padres are some greedy guys
Damn good throws.
Watching the Braves swing the bats lately has been a painful experience.
Watching Woodward play baseball doesn’t ease the pain.
I’m beginning to think TP needs to teach our players how to hit.
I’m going to PNC Park on Saturday to watch the Braves play, and I was wondering if anyone had a guess on who would be starting for the Braves?
Hudson goes tomorrow, James Friday, Davies Saturday???

They said it again on FSN: Tim Hudson vs. David Wells tomorrow.
Thanks everyone.
The Braves need to gain some ground by crushing the Pirates. They can’t afford to lose those games.
Finally a quick inning from Smoltzie…ok, hitters, please wake up…
I don’t think any team can afford to lose early games or games against crappy teams. They all count in October.
Fat chance. Woodward, Smoltz and Johnson up.
Woodward!
Wow. Woodward gets a single. Whoudathunkit?
Now, sit in for the show “Good Eye and the Single Guy”.
WILLIE THE SINGLE GUY!
Willie!
Willie comes through again.
Can you believe it?! It’s Willie again!!!
Now they’re convinced Willie is going to run.
Sciambi makes out like he has a sense of humor with the “MAddux says darn” comment.
Hope Chipper has some magic here.
I think the Baby Braves are probably giving Greg too much respect…and I don’t blame them.
Nope.
Yeah Willie 4/4
Harris is an offensive powerhouse.

Greg does that to great hitters. Has four years of no Madudx on the Braves made us forget this? 😉
I still have a lot of Diaz love.
Over the last three or four games, I bet Woodward has the most Braves hits.
Seriously.
Don’t we all?
Yeah!
That’s sad that Woodward plays once in a blue moon and has more hits than the rest of the team combined, lol. Ok, maybe not combined, but it seems like it.
Wow, don’t see that every day.
Wow, that’s luck…
Hustlin’ Druw! You don’t see a Maddux error everyday.
Maddux still has the fire in him…he gets pissed if anything ever goes wrong for him.
That you don’t see everyday.
HAHAHA, don’t see that every day either!
WOW!!!
DRUW musta had his wheaties this morning.
If there is one weakness in Maddux’s game, Bobby definitely knows about it.
Come on Frenchy
Wow. This is probably the best thing to happen to the Braves all day.
Nice job, Greg. I think we all can admit that.
I love Greg…regardless of who he plays for.
Yeah, still love the guy. He was great tonight.
Regression for Francoeur today.

That’s something we don’t say everyday about Woodward.
I just said Woodward’s coming up. Well, when a guy has two hits in the game, you can’t help but look at him for a little hope.
True, especially when he seems to be the only one who is hitting the ball.
Woodward, pinchie (maybe?) and Johnson again.
Yep, pinchie. Johnson will have to do something with two outs. Maybe he can do something against Meredith.
Another quiet inning…………
Have you ever seen a team look this consistently sluggish at home?
There we go KJ
Come on Chipper!
I can’t believe that someone told me that we’d miss Ryan Langerhans.

No matter, Druw coming through again.
I can’t beleive it!!! It’s Andruw to the right field again!!!
Smoltz is eligible for the win.
An offensive explosion.
To right field!
Where’s Joe Simpson
BTW, is Bud Black an idiot? You’re letting Meredith pitch around the order? You just let a sidearmer pitch to three straight lefthanded hitters?
I second “Bizzaro Andruw”
Black is not treating Meredith like a normal sidearmer…but he should have checked Meredith’s last year’s splits.
