Reitsma got slammed by South African sub-A players. I mean, I know it’s only one game, but they’re South Africa. We’re talking a bunch of amateurs and one time low-minors guys lighting up our closer?

It was, what, the second time he’d thrown the ball this year?

after last year, this just seems like a good problem to have.
I hope all three guys want it and pitch like they want it all year.
That being said, I hope Devine becomes the closer, Reitsma the set-up and Villareal becomes the go-to guy when we really need a great inning or out (kind of like Remlinger used to be)

Interesting where the Braves signed Peter Moylan after seeing him pitch in the WBC for Australia I believe. The Braves had him pitching today and he allowed a run in two innings. I wonder how many prospects will be discovered as a result of the WBC.
Bama had a shot. We deserved to win that game. Morally speaking. I tend towards the thinking that the team that scraps, rebounds, and hits their free throws deserves to win. (And they had a shot.) Not that UCLA isn’t a better team… but they’re not that much better.

I was proud of Bama. I don’t think anyone on their team had a spectacular game (Steele had a good game, but not his best), but they just played good defense and refused to give up. If no one goes pro next year and we get some decent freshmen, watch out!

I was rooting for Bama like mad, but I can’t pretend that, talent-wise, UCLA wasn’t the better team. However, Bama’s effort was way more admirable. I just wish that 90-percent free-throw kid didn’t miss that free throw.
Was watching the Mets-Braves game today on Channel 11 in NYC. And I saw something that reminded me of our unwelcome, illiterate Met fan. Adam LaRoche came up for his second at-bat. The graphic in front of his face: Adam LaRoche, 0 for 1, GOUNDOUT.

Well, JC, it was trading injury risk for injury risk. JS claims Estrada to be an all-star, silver bat catcher before his injury, and AZ claims Villareal to be a great reliever before his injury. So, maybe for ATL and AZ will come away as a winner of the trade. We will see.

Those odds look reasonable to me. I’m still sticking with my prediction that Reitsma breaks camp with the role and loses it to Devine by mid-season.
Yeah, but the Sexson trade was made under the old management. The new guy actually looks like he has a brain. I liked the Vasquez and Glaus trades a lot, and the Estrada trade could look good too…
That said, I do think Villareal will have a good year for as long as he can pitch. He looked nasty versus the US.

Prediction: Villareal won’t pitch more than 30 innings this year.
There is no way AZ includes him in that deal if he’s healthy enough to pitch like he did his rookie year.
Next year, Smitty. 😉
Whoever said video games aren’t reality is absolutely right. Today I was playing MVP Baseball 2005, and Horacio Ramirez had the following line:
9 IP
0 BB
0 H
0 R
10 K
Yep, HoRam pitched a perfect game with 10 K’s! Definitely a fantasy world…

It’s not like we’re dealing with a club that never makes mistakes. Consider, for example, the Sexson trade where they gave Milwaukee half a ballclub.
i know it is spring, but why is brian jordan leading off? has that been happening in spring, or is this a new strat?
I posted a link to your site on my new blog, The Braves Blog and I hope you will add a link to my site on ours.
Also, if you have a link to my other site (formerly bravesblog at http://bravesblog.stillnotchase.com) the name has changed to The Braves Board. The current link will still work, but feel free to change it to http://www.bravesboard.com.
Thanks in advance!
