Braves make first cuts of spring | ajc.com
The one surprise was Kevin Barry, who had been pitching extremely well in spring; I assume that they want to see more of him as a starter. Brad Baker has been pretty bad and was also sent out, as well as Jose Ascanio. Along with Schuerholz, the other players sent down were Thorman (to Richmond), Prado, Hernandez, and Burrus (to Mississippi).
You know, I bet you’re exactly right. I, too, had been wondering why Barry was sent down–but starting, and getting plenty of innings, rather than possibly making the team as the mop up man, is likely best for him. Well said.
