FOXSports.com – MLB- Mets could get Manny in four-way blockbuster
I don’t really believe this, but here’s the report:
The Red Sox would get Miguel Tejada and Joey Gathright.
The Mets would get Manny Ramirez and Danys Baez.
The Orioles would get Julio Lugo, Matt Clement, and maybe Kristin Benson.
The Devil Rays would get about 700 players including Andy Marte.
Makes no sense. The Orioles would give up their best player and get Clement, Benson, and Lugo? Give me a break. That’s a dollar for two quarters and a dime, and I’m being generous. That’s why these big complicated deals never happen, because they always involve someone taking it in the shorts. This deal sounds a lot like something either the Mets or the Devil Rays front office thinks is fair.
Unless the D’Rays are high on Heilman I don’t see why they would do that deal. If it is true that they asked for Marte and one of our catchers for just Lugo then why would they give up Lugo and Baez for Marte, Matsui(Mets probably are forcing them to take him), Seo(marginal pitcher), and Heilman?
And the Mets are dreaming if they want Manny for 3 ok pitchers and Kaz.
Complicated deals rarely work out even when they actually make sense. So I have to think that this one has no chance seeing that it doesn’t even make any sense for half the teams involved.
If you’re not confused enough already, try this rumor out.
Mets would send Lastings Milledge, Anderson Hernandez, Aaron Heilman and Xavier Nady to Tampa Bay for Lugo, Huff and Baez. New York would then send Lugo, Huff, Kris Benson and Cliff Floyd to Baltimore for Tejada, and then send Tejada to the Red Sox for Manny Ramirez.
Who makes this stuff up?
At least that deal makes sense for the Orioles and D-Rays.
Does anyone else have trouble viewing the rumors page on mlb4u? For the past few days the rumors have been cut off after like one word.
To me it’s all crap anyway and if it emanates at all from the city I live in, NYC, then it’s usually just made up to sell a lot more papers.
As soon as I figure out exactly what’s going on, I’ll have a reaction. But it looks stupid for pretty much everybody but the Devil Rays.
Did anyone notice how fast Mike Shanahan yanked Jake Plummer after Drew Brees dislocated his shoulder? What a nightmare for Marty Schottenheimer. That was the one impact the game could have had on them.
Happy New Year!
I think these rumors reflect the realities of the Hot Stove more than anything else.
Yes, Happy New Year all:-)
blowing a goodbye-kiss to my sorrowful year~
Gosh, It seems to me Ramirez is the black sheep of the RedSox. Ramirez!
I think New York is not a proper place as long as you want in order to protect your private affairs.
Happy New Year, everyone!
I thought I didn’t like Jay Leno until I saw Carson Daly and Wanda Sykes on NBC. Now I want Leno more than anything.
Hey, knock on Carson Daly all you want, but Wanda Sykes is hilarious. You’re a full blown hater, Jenny… but Happy New Year!
It could be worse. You could have watched the Stu Scott New Year’s show.
My brother wanted to, but I forced him to change the channel under threat of physical harm.
Happy New Year all…another three weeks when we start writting checks and such to remember its 2006 and not 2005.
I don’t see this deal happening. No way the O’s would get so little for Tejada. I mean Kris Benson satisfy’s their pitching needs??? Benson isn’t worth shit and I think Lugo will fall back to earth. No way this deal gets anywhere other than the Daily News dreams.
Man, I sure wouldn’t mind having Joey Gathright for the Braves….
We had him back when he went by the name Otis Nixon. It was fun when he could get on base, and he’s a personal favorite, but we don’t need to do it again.
I mean Lugo sucks. He got cut by the ‘stros in favor of Adam Everet. Everet sucks too. Like This deal is stupid because there is not possible way for the Mets to get Manny without Lastings Miletige. I dont understand. The Mets give up Scott Kazmir for VIctor Zambrano, yet they wont give up Lastings for Manny. This is why they always suck and we always win the division.
Jared, Lugo didn’t get cut from the Astros because of Adam Everett, he got cut from the Astros because he beat his wife.
They didn’t think he was a bad player, they just thought he was a bad human being.
FWIW, he was cleared of those wifebeating charges
Yeah I knew about how he hit his wife, cause the Braves were in town when that happend, but had they deemed that Everet was bad, they would’nt have cut him. And Also, trying to replace Miguel Tejada with Lugo just isnt a good option. And if Boston made that trade, they’d be without a left fielder. Former GBrave, Adam Stern is not a viable option and the free agent market it bare. I guess they could try Mondesi too.
Here’s a question that just came to me looking at the proposal: How the heck does seemingly one of the best prospects get traded twice in less than a month, especially after the team that traded for him first has a legitimate need at third? Doesn’t something seem just a little bit off?
“”The Braves are determined to avoid the bullpen struggles that plagued them throughout the 2005 season, when they were forced to use three different hurlers to fill the closer’s role. They are still searching for a closer, but may opt to begin 2006 with the hope that CHRIS REITSMA will give them consistency as a closer. He did so in June and July, but struggled with leg ailments in the final two months of the season.”” ARRGGGH!!!!
The thing about this is…that it weakens the mets defense, rotation, and not really improving the bullpen that much…
Rotation to this point:
Rotation after trade: Pedro-Glavine-Trax-Zambrano-???
Baez is a 1 pitch pitcher…
Rob, has Andy Marte actually been traded by the Sox yet? I couldn’t find confirmation, so I wasn’t sure if you were speaking hypothetically.
Same question to Joseph: has the Baez trade actually gone through? Or are you speaking hypothetically?
As I underdstand it, all of those are in the rumor stage at this point.
To throw another rumor out there, I heard that Tejada for Manny/Clement has been agreed to in principle and there is just some last-minute hitch by Manny holding it up. Take it for what it’s worth, but this is from a source who knew Lee Mazzilli was fired 5 hours before the media reported it so it MIGHT actually be true. MIGHT.
Just a bit of dirt that might be wrong. But it would be a cool scoop if it was right.
Oh, yeah, and let’s hear it for the Redskins and the 8 pages of coverage they’re going to get in tomorrow’s Washington Post!
