Thx Mac because it’s a great piece and I copied it and sent it to over 20 of my closest friend and associates.
It’s so obvious that JS knows what he’s doing as well as the fact that what he does and beleives in would work in just about any corporation, business, or asociation that has layered structure in terms of management and employess.
hmmm..good interview – I didn’t get any saber bashing in there though. Seems that they use statistical models like most (all?) teams do, and that they have some “propriatery” methodology, which speaks well of them. I’ve been as big a critic as the next guy of JS, but in this piece at least, he says all the right things.
Whoops, posted in old thread.
Same lineup for today as for game 2–this means Estrada starting the turnaround game tomorrow if Pettitte comes back on short rest, unless this game turns into a blowout either way and McCann gets 3 or 4 innings off.
Also, Berkman in left means Lamb at first and Palmeiro on the bench.
More pressure on Atlanta than Houston today, since the Astros have the option of bringing back Pettitte on short rest. If they’re 2-1 up, then they may start Backe and keep him on a very short leash; if 2-1 down, they can start one of the hottest pitchers in the majors and trust him to beat Thomson or a hurting, short-rest Hudson.
The first inning may determine the game: if the Braves get a quick couple runs, then Sosa has time to settle in. If the Braves don’t score, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Houston run up two or three in the first themselves. We all know how bad Sosa is at holding runners, so he has to keep Biggio and Taveras off the bases. He especially better not walk either of those two; he’ll need open bases for Berkman and Ensberg as the situtation demands.
And I’ve posted in the wrong one again. *sigh* Think I’ll just go concentrate on the game instead of making vain attempts at releasing nervousness by poking around the Net.
