Colorado 7, Atlanta 6 – MLB – Recap – Braves at Rockies

Tim Hudson learned that leaving the AL for the NL is a two-edged sword for a pitcher. The good news is that you don’t have to face the DH. The bad news is an annual trip to Colorado. Coors Field beat Hudson last night, as it has so many other pitchers. He only went 3 2/3 innings, allowing all seven runs on ten hits and three walks, and left with the bases loaded though John Foster got him out of it.

The Braves held the Rockies in check after that, Bernero and Sosa each pitching two innings of one-hit baseball. But the Rockies pen did the same to the Braves, and nobody scored after the fourth.

Adam LaRoche was 3-5, including a monster homer to the upper deck in his second AB and a two-run double the next time up. Furcal was 2-5, and Jordan 2-4 before leaving the game with an apparent back injury. Nobody else had more than one hit, which isn’t good in Colorado. Mondesi briefly dipped below the Mendoza Line (you ever notice that “Mondesi” and “Mendoza” are almost the same?) before getting a hit in his fourth AB, but struck out to end the game.

Incredibly, the Astros beat the Marlins. (Clemens was pitching.) The Braves stay 1 1/2 games up. Tonight sees Thomson versus Jason Jennings. It’s on Turner South, ending a run of TBS games. Tomorrow’s day game is on TBS. Does this make any sense? Only if your plan is to maximize those Sex and the City repeats, I guess.

  1. I can’t watch a whole Coors Field game. Just too much offense and, with the exception of shots like LaRoche’s, most of it is cheap offense. Just, blah.

Hudson looked rattled. It seemed he was going out of his way to work the bottom of the zone, and when he was missing or wasn’t getting the calls, he’d give them something too fat.

  2. Jordan’s two hits were little tweener dribblers. I guess thats better than frozen ropes right at em. His slide to score the first run was a veteran move. Good stuff.
