Bargaining: “Please, let’s just keep it above water until Marcus gets back.” Hey, at least the Braves aren’t going to lose the last two games of a series after winning the first one again.
The Braves lost their third in a row, this time with Mike Hampton giving them a quality start but not getting enough support. Well, he was spotted a 2-0 lead largely due to the efforts of Furcal, who scored on a sac fly in the first and hit a homer in the third. But that was it for the scoring from the Braves and Hampton allowed them to tie it in fourth and take the lead (on a homer) in the sixth.
I didn’t actually see the game, of course, but there must have been something going on with the infield; the Indians reached on three infield singles. One figured in the scoring, when they got an insurance run off of Reitsma in the eighth.
Chipperwatch: 1-4 with a double, hitting .207. One of the infield singles was to third.
Paul Byrd is supposed to start tomorrow. I’ll believe it when I don’t see it. My guess is that Byrd will be wild, which makes him utterly useless, but I’d be happy to be wrong.
The infield single to third was a swinging bunt that Belliard beat out, if I remember correctly. Chipper has actually looked quite comfortable in the field so far — I missed the error the other night, but other than that he seems to be doing well.
