Pitchers Blaine Boyer, Roman Colon and Brett Evert were optioned, as were infielders Nick Green, Kelly Johnson, Richard Lewis, Tony Pena and Scott Thorman and outfielder Onil Joseph.
Catchers Jean Boscan, Brayan Pena and Bryce Terveen were reassigned to minor league camp.
The only player mentioned as a roster possibility by me was Colon; of this group, he’s probably the one with the first crack at a callup. I’d heard rumors that Green had a shot at being the utility infielder even though he doesn’t play shortstop. Evert and Johnson are real prospects, if somewhat scuffed ones. Pena and Joseph are likely the two most overrated prospects by the organization.
In other news, apparently Grybo’s arm hasn’t fallen compeletely off yet as he pitched in last night’s game with the Expos. He didn’t pitch well (1 IP, 3 H, 1 R), but don’t count him out for that coveted 12th pitcher spot on the roster.
Russ Branyan went 0-2 last night and now stands at 0-15 for the spring. Sadly, he may be looking for another place of employment soon. Betemit may make this team yet.
