It is odd. As of an article last week, even Ortiz was dismissing his chances at the award. And that was before his ERA broke the 4 barrier.
I don’t think we need to pile on Russ. He’s done a nice job — about all I really hoped for. He’s not really a #1 pitcher much less a Cy Young award winner.
But.. It’s not his fault that other people are idiots.
Holy Sh*t, Lopez is catching Maddux tonight. This is great news, I assume it is for the playoffs. This means there is no reason for Hank White to make the playoff roster with fick having catching experience.
and look at the performance by Maddux–7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K.
Maybe we’d be talking about him winning the Cy Young award if Lopez had caught him all year (what’s that you say–sample size–feh!?!)
In all seriousness, a good night all around (so far, as I speak in the 8th–may I not jinx anything).
Looks like Maddux has to try to get the record the next time… Cunnane just blew the 2 run lead.
