It seems that Mets fans still consider the Braves to be their archrivals. Isn’t that adorable? It’s like Cuba considering the United States to be their rival.
I was looking at the Mets’ lineup the other day and I realized that they don’t have a single player any more who could start for us. Seriously. With Piazza out, Javy’s the better catcher, and even Vinny is better than Ty Wigginton. Robby Alomar is a Hall of Famer, sure, but he’s a Hall of Famer playing replacement-level baseball while Marcus Giles has a 1.000 OPS. Their best hitter not on the shelf — for now, anyway — is Cliff Floyd, who isn’t as good as Chipper. I suppose if the Braves had Floyd they’d find a way to play him. When he plays, Jeromy Burnitz is okay, but he’s not close to Sheffield. The rest of their players are beneath contempt. They’ve got some good pitchers, but they’re not the Dodgers, and aren’t going to be able to play .500 baseball with that offense. Heck, if it wasn’t for Glavine and Jae Seo, they’d be down there with the Padres.
This seems like an appropriate place to point out that the Rick Camp game is airing on ESPN Classic for the next three hours.
I’m one of the fools who stayed till the end. The best game in my lifetime.
Has this guy never heard of proofreading? I’ll admit, I make the odd typo from time to time, but I spent more time on his site figuring out what he was trying to say than I did laughing at the Mets. And that’s sad.
It’s the Ed Kranepool society, after all. You’d expect some leeway given to the basics.
Mets SUCK!
