5/30/98: The Braves have lost three games in a row for the first time this year, as a furious rally in the ninth fell short. They had already rallied in the fourth to cut the Cub lead to 2 runs, but Chicago added three more, two of those largely due to a terrible umpiring call in the bottom half of the fourth, when the home plate umpire reversed an interference call on Jose Hernandez (I think it was Hernandez) and replays clearly showed that the original call was correct. I don’t mind bad calls, really, and it’s surprising that there aren’t more. But if you’re going to reverse a call, you better get it right.
