I didn’t see a lot of this one… personal issues. But it was a familiar pattern from the last couple of weeks…. fall behind early (Joey Wentz backward, replaced by Erick Fedde fecklessness) and a furious comeback late that was not nearly enough. If someone has useful observations to make from this game, comment.
Cal Quantrill makes his long-anticipated Braves debut tonight.

As per my usual pattern, I turned off the game once it appeared out of reach and was surprised to see we kind of made it sort of close.
One other nice development is that Jurickson Profar actually looks like the same plus bat he has been the last 2 seasons for San Diego with a really nice OBP and some pop.
Definitely sucks to score 7 runs and lose, but with this pitching, that’s gonna keep happening.
To Stampton’s point, yeah, there really can’t be any complaints with Profar. Since going 3-5 on 7/22, he has a .888 OPS. 9 multi-hit games. He’s at a 2.5 WAR pace if he played 150 games.
I’m starting to think by the end of the year we are gonna see Nacho Alvarez as a Martin Prado type third baseman and entertain the idea of trading Riley.
Alvarez can’t be peak Riley but he can be a gold glove defender and a high OBP bat with doubles power. Maybe. Not sure yet, but I think he is a lot better than we realize. He’s just not a shortstop.
Trading Riley gives you tremendous payroll relief and it may give you some pretty good prospects to replenish the system.
Recapped
Great game! Fedde pitched his way into yet ANOTHER DFA.
Have the Braves resigned him yet? It will be big to see how/if Wentz bounces back from his first bad start with the Braves. I like the way the offense has found some skills, even if it’s too little, much too late. I imagine Nacho moving over to second and the Braves not resigning Ozzie. He’s hit a little lately, but he’s only marginally better than Allen.
