Hello, all. cliff’s no-doubt-excellent recap of last night’s game was eaten by The Borg. We will make the proper obeisances to the techno-gods and try to prevent this happening again, but will probably fail at some point. For those ESPN-literate, here’s the recap written in boring journalese. Interesting that the story is the Rockies’ futility and not the Braves’ momentum.
Game two tonight: AJSS called up and will start and Ian Anderson was designated for assignment. I’ll augment this note with a full lineup when they post it. If the Braves can finish April with a 0.500 record there should be a lot of crow-eating among some of you. Even if they don’t, I suspect everyone is breathing a sigh of relief… except cliff.

Looking at the “crowd” at Coors Field brings back many pleasant memories of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in the 70’s. The baseball wasn’t all that pleasant, but the experience was priceless.
It was what Skip used to call a “partial sellout.”
The 6 runs are nice, but what’s with all the grounders and slappy swings? It’s Coors Field — start driving the ball in the air! There have only been four barrels so far in this series, and they all belong to the Rockies.
Eh, we’ve had like 25 hits but scored 12 runs despite not hitting a homer. I’ll take that output any day of the week.
Good start so far for AJSS. Hope he can go another inning or two here.
Gah, I hope AJ is ok. That was the making of a great start. Now lets see how the bullpen goes…
If Colorado continues to play like it has for the month of April, the saying IWOTR (It was only the Rockies) will be the most appropriate statement to this effect in baseball history.
Call me old-fashioned, but I like it when we score a bunch of runs!
Save them Home Runs for the Dodger series. But my god what a sad excuse for a baseball team the Rockies are. Their fanbase deserves much better than this dreck.
I don’t get the crow eating. Even the most pessimistic of us thought we were much better than .000 and would finish around .500. I still believe that. I also believe that whether we are a playoff team will depend on the performances of Strider and Acuna. Starting 0-7 and finishing April at .500 is an impressive feat and it speaks to the grittiness of some of our players. The best stories may be Nick Allen and Alex Verdugo, two acquisitions I praised, and Sean Murphy whose acquisition I cursed. The worst stories are Jurickson Profar and Jared Kelenic (whose acquisitions I also praised) and Bryce Elder (who I didn’t want anywhere near the rotation). I thought Ozzie and Arcia were washed and they do appear to be.
So I am also about .500, no better or worse than any other old schlub.

To each his required level of crow. Your diffident pessimism level requires but a soupcon de corbeau, as Claude Raymond would have said (I just looked it up and am gratified to see that the original “Frenchy” is still among us.) And you have come through.

Certainly doesn’t hurt to stretch him out. How crazy would it be if Ian and Suarez, traded for each other, both end up being useful for us? The baseball season is very long and unpredictable, and it wouldn’t surprise me if both were in the rotation at the same time.
If you do these a few hundred times, you will eventually have every player in MLB in your organization. Reminds me of Ken Griffey’s baseball on Nintendo 64 where I learned arbitrage.
If Verdugo continues playing well, I don’t think Profar walks right back into a starting job.
