Zack Wheeler has Atlanta’s number. When he takes the mound, the Wheels on the bus shut us out! Such was the case Saturday as Philly won 3-0.
Friends, sorry for the tardiness of the recap. Our Editor-in-Chief is dealing with some end-of-life stuff with his dad, keep him in your prayers if you are the praying type, please.
Saturday’s loss was less about Max Fried and more about Wheeler, who simply continues to stymie Braves bats. The one hitter Atlanta has who enjoys success is still nursing a broken hand and won’t be back until the postseason, if then, in Austin Riley. The Wheels on the bus shut us out by scattering four hits while striking out seven. Jorge Soler came to the plate on two occasions in two-on, two-out situations and was unsuccessful.
Fried battled through seven innings, as well. Max allowed five hits, four walks, three runs and two home runs in taking the L. Fortunately for him, Michael Harris II made the catch of the season – and perhaps of this century – on a ball hit by Austin Hays. Hays tipped his cap, and the Phlies still managed to tack on an Edmundo Sosa double. Sosa, the 8-hole hitter, homered and doubled to drive in two of the three runs.
The Braves look to split the series and climb back within five games when they face Aaron Nola this evening. Unfortunately, Karl Ravech and the ESPN knobs will be on the call. Atlanta send Spencer Schwellenbach. Let’s hope the young stud shoves hard tonight. This will be his third start of the season against the NL East leaders. First pitch is set for 7:10 Eastern/6:10 Central.

Money Mikeee for the lead!
This place is a ghost town anymore during games. Kinda sad.
Personally, I hate having to type my username and email every single time I comment. I miss the old layout.
Pinch hitting Duvall for anybody against RHP is stupid.
Saying this is the zombie of Adam Duvall does a disservice to zombies.
Snit has checked out. Or he has the tactical acumen of a mothball. No other explanation.
I have no idea why he didn’t use Duvall against the lefty and Laureano against the righty.
Me too.
That inning was a textbook version of how not to do the 10th inning with the Manfred Man. 1st pitch fly out, strike out and ground out.
It’s like watching a slow motion train wreck.
All of this won’t matter once the playoffs start.
We’ll have other games to be grumpy about!
My guess is 2025 will be Snitker’s final season. He’ll be 70 next October and has no contract for 2026.
I agree. The optics of firing him after a season with so many injuries aren’t good. But I hope next year is it. Even with the injuries, his deficiencies are glaring.
