Day three of a Marlins fishing trip sees Grant Holmes take the mound for the Braves. Atlanta loves fishing, but they are all about hunting down the team from Philadelphia and look to take another step in that quest this evening.
The Braves are winners of four in a row and six of seven. The Fish have put up a good fight in the first two games, but it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to tell us we haven’t heard of most of the lineup. Hopefully, our Holmes will be all we need to win.
Holmes, and the bats that have awakened, that is. Day three of a Marlins fishing trip will see Jorge Soler hitting his first homer in his return to Atlanta, and to see Orlando Arcia and Matt Olson stay hot. Righty Kyle Tyler will take the hill for Miami.
first pitch is slated for 7:20 Eastern, 6:20 Central.

Pregame Trivia: Kyle Tyler is one of 466 MLB players with two Y’s in his name. But there has been one player with three Y’s in his name. He made his MLB debut this year. He was a Braves draft choice, but did not make his debut with the Braves. Who is he?
Justyn Henry-Malloy?
Winner, winner. Yep. the only guy in MLB history with three Y’s in his name.
He’s batting .208 and OPSing .699 for the Tigers if anybody’s interested.
Here’s a nice remembrance of Skip Caray on the 16th (yikes) anniversary of his death.
RIP Skip. I will never forget the Justice Homer off Dibble.
As for the game, I think that 2-1 strike call on Ozuna cost us multiple runs.
I think that’s right. That said, considering that the guy is having a lot of trouble finding the strike zone, it’s killing me to see our guys keep swinging and missing on first-pitch sliders out of the zone. Just spit on his breaking stuff, already!
Wow…Holmes completely ran out of gas right there. Everything was up and hittable
Why does the pitcher get credit for a strikeout on a time violation?
Kelenic actively turning into a pumpkin
Horrid AB’s today.
And right on cue, now they’re trailing.
Hibernation mode in full effect
I really dislike this year’s team, and we have all been subject to inconsistent braves teams in the past….
Seems like everything has to go right for them to score, and then we’re lucky if they manage to score a couple of innings a game.
What an awful at bat my Merrifield. Was he waiting for it on a tee?
That was a terrible loss
It’s just math. The Braves have a .303 team OBP. That means that 3 innings out of 9, nobody will get on base. Not accounting for double plays, 3 innings out of 9, 1 runner will get on. And the other 3, two or more runners will get on. So you better hit some homers because you’ll only have 3 chances to score otherwise.
Mariners literally walked it off against Philly
We hit into an awful lot of GIDPs. Ozuna, no matter how good he is, hits into a lot of them. I think it’s what you get for hitting very hard ground balls.
He is 6th in GIDP in the majors, but he would surely be #1 if he had guys ahead of him who could get on base
I’d be glad to see him move up the list if it meant our team OBP was going up.
this team is really hard to watch
