Reynaldo Lopez and the Braves will take on Dylan Cease and the Padres tonight at 6:15 CT/7:15 ET. Reynaldo Lopez comes into tonight’s game with a 7-2 record, 1.71 ERA in 16 starts and 89.2 IP. Cease enters with a 4.21 ERA, but with a 3.39 FIP. It should be a fun game to watch. If you didn’t catch JF’s brilliant recap, check it out here.
Max Fried Added to the All Star Game
It was announced today that Max Fried will join teammates Reynaldo Lopez, Chris Sale, and Marcell Ozuna at the All Star Game.
MLB Draft, July 14th
Peanut gives us an early look at what the Braves could do in tomorrow’s draft, which will start tomorrow at 7 ET.
Braves Prospect J.R. Ritchie is Back with a Vengeance
J.R. Ritchie had Tommy John surgery in May of 2023 and has now found his way back to the mound. Yesterday, he started for the Augusta Greenjackets throwing 5 no hit innings, walking 0 and striking out 7. The future is exciting!
Is There Room for Some Jazz?
Jazz Chisholm Jr. looks to be on the trade block and many think his personality would fit well with this Braves team. However, when looking toward next year, the Braves will have Jarred Kelenic, Michael Harris II, and Ronald Acuña Jr. in the OF and, in all likelihood, Marcell Ozuna as the DH. While I’d like to be optimistic that the Braves trade for Jazz, there’s not a clear fit for the talented young man. However, if the Braves let Ozuna walk, Jazz fits in pretty well, as his presence could allow Acu?a to slow play his way into the field.
Braves Lineup and Reynaldo Lopez
Reynaldo Lopez, you’re up.

My first thought on hearing the news about Varsity to the ASG: Oh no! Did anybody consult JonathanF about this?
presented without comment: Jim Bowden, at the Athletic, thinks we should acquire Jazz and play him at second, moving Ozzie to short.
oh my god thank you Arraez. that is some little league baserunning.
i mean, it was a tough spot since he was on a straight steal, but I feel comfortable making fun of him since he was standing on third when they doubled him off first.
Matt Olson had a pretty good year in the batting box back in 2023. In an effort to improve his performance in 2024, he made some “adjustments” to his approach over the winter. Doesn’t seem to have worked.
Like the Braves offense, I too thought this game was starting at 9:40. Someone should’ve told both of us.
Another shutout loss. Will this offense ever wake up? Our performance on the road seems to be especially poor. Even putting Jazz at SS might be an improvement – defense or not. I don’t care how good your defense is; 0 runs will never ever win a game.
Jazz Chisholm would be a good get, and his versatility is valuable for the inevitable injury. We should not dare let Ozuna walk for just $16 mil. How about Drake Baldwin continuing to hit oppo homers against top competition in the futures game:

Who’s missing more: the Braves offense or political assassins?
Too soon?
I think so.
Sorrrrry.
it got a chuckle out of me but probably yes
But seriously, is there a way we can implicate the Phillies in this?
I also think Jazz would be a great get. He can fill in in the OF until Harris returns and then take over SS after that. If we let Morton retire and Ozuna walk then we can back up the money truck for Fried. We can let TdA retire and dump Duvall and bring up Nacho and Drake next year. When Acuna and Strider come back next year, we will be awesome again (SP = Fried, Strider, Sale, Lopez, Schwellenbach and friends – lineup of (not in order) Murphy/Baldwin, Acuna, Olson, Albies, Alvarez, Riley, Kelenic, Harris, Chisolm). We could use Acuna at DH and then when/if he returns to the field Baldwin, Chisolm, Kelenic and whoever could rotate at DH and Arcia be utility. Seems to me like getting Jazz would make everything fall into place.
Not only do we get a lot better, but we get a lot younger.
Good point–we may need to let Acuna DH to get max value out of his bat. Those are 9 figure knees
Matt Olson has turned into Dansby. Hits .225, a little pop but way too many strikeouts. His bat speed seems so slow.
I think he needs to be batting 5th behind Riley and Ozuna right now.
This team is just not it. It is broken.
