(I know this game has already been recapped, but I cannot help myself)
Last night, the Braves had a full-speed ahead comeback going on, scoring 2 runs to make it a 4-3 game with 2 outs. Because they had already burned their best pinch hitter in Travis d’Arnaud, the only option was Zack Short, a guy that carries a career .558 OPS in the majors. But why Zack Short? There are 26 men on a roster, yet there was only 25 that traveled to St. Louis. Why? Brian Anderson acquired a bacterial infection and stayed back to get treatment, so his replacement was… no one. The obvious happened and Short came up short.
Today, the Braves made up for the mistake, but not really….
Luke Williams isn’t any better and it might be time for Orlando Arcia to sit for a week to try and get back going with some extra help from Kevin Seitzer. I was hoping that Nacho Alvarez would get the call, but the Braves are going to continue playing Arcia because he’s a great defensive shortstop that is making Rafael Belliard look like Barry Bonds, the buff one.
Get Eyes on These Guys
The Braves farm is about to get much better when these guys get exposed to the Augusta GreenJackets. Get ready, folks. The 2nd storm is coming:
Braves Lineup
Zack Short (ugh) gets the start at SS and Reynaldo Lopez is on the hill against Kyle Gibson. And I’ll be sitting about 15 rows up behind homeplate tonight! My wife is from St. Louis and we come here every year for a week and I was super lucky I picked the right week to come!

I think maybe you’ve forgotten just how bad Pac-Man was at hitting! His career triple slash was .221/.270/.259, good for an OPS+ of 46. His best offensive year ever came in 1991, when he also set a career high with 149 games played and 385 at-bats; he hit .249/.296/.286, a 61 OPS+.
This year, Orlando Arcia is hitting .212/.243/.343, which is good for a 64 OPS+. So, Arcia’s jaw-droppingly awful year is still better than Belliard’s best-ever year.
Washout.
Day/night doubleheader tomorrow (1:45 & 7:15), then a 4:10 makeup game Thursday with the White Sox.
Hope they eat their Wheaties!
Also, I got married this weekend. I’m deeply lucky.
Congrats AAR. Wishing you and your wife a lifetime of happiness. It has not always been easy, but after 29 years of marriage and 4 kids, I still feel deeply lucky and deeply blessed.
