At what point do we discuss that Riley is broken? Tons of completely non-competitive at bats with runners on third and less than 2 outs. Just like today… blown away on three pitches by a 92 mph fastball and way behind it. This is starting to seem like more than a little slump.
There is no reason to be concerned about Riley. He’s been one of the most consistent hitters in the game the last few years. All excellent players go through something like this. We are only a little over three weeks into the season, and it’s not like he’s been terrible the whole time this season (like, say, Paul Goldschmidt); his season OPS is 743. Austin will turn it around soon.
I agree with you, tfloyd, and I’m frustrated with my guy Austin. He’s pressing and it shows. He is not on plane with the barrel and the struggle is real. Matt is equally broken at the moment, and we are the best team in baseball. 😂
Good point. I can’t remember a time in the last couple of years when he has looked this off. Hopefully he will break out in his next at bat. Still playing great d though
It’s pretty amazing that we are 15-6 with Olson and Riley in deep slumps (and with Strider out and Fried going though a bad stretch). Having said that, Max is looking like his old self so far.

Really nice swing by Riley. Hopefully he can relax a bit now. He and Matty just aren’t seeing the ball right now and you can tell both are frustrated. Another example of the depth of this lineup with the success the team is having in spite of their slow starts.
The ol’ 3-hit, complete-game shutout — don’t see that anymore…

The third Maddux of Fried’s career. Impressive. As mentioned, you don’t see that very often anymore. Braves first complete game since Sep 2022, I believe.
On another note, my goodness there are some abysmal baseball teams this season. And one of them isn’t Oakland!
