Charlie Morton takes the hill against Taijuan Walker in the first of a 4-game series. The Braves have Max Fried then Spencer Strider for games 3 and 4, but game 2 is listed as a TBD and today’s transaction might give us a glimpse into who could be utilized.
Transaction a Day AA
First off…and yes, it’s a selfish want, but I absolutely love Jackson Stephens and it warms my heart he is back with the team, but it does suck that it comes at the cost of shelving Michael Soroka for the year. With Allan Winans, Darius Vines, and Dylan Dodd all recently optioned, AJ Smith-Shawver still stands and I’m guessing that either he or Stephens will take the mound tomorrow.

Game 2 Lineup
Kyle Wright takes the hill and Ozzie Albies gets the nightcap off.
Charlie struggling to find the zone again. Not a great recipe for success in that tiny little park
Morton can’t throw strikes, doggonit.
His arm slot and motion seem like they’re not as repeatable as they used to be, and he sometimes loses his feel. But credit to him for battling through.
Ozzie!
Ozzie’s heading towards his second career 30/100 season, and already logged his third All-Star appearance today; he’s basically having a Jeff Kent career. If he improves his selectivity a touch – basically, if he makes an offensive improvement of similar magnitude to the one Freddie Freeman made at his age – he’s got a chance at immortality.
I know we all like him, but I don’t think we quite treat him as being as remarkable as he is. He basically puts up a four-win season every year, and he started in the majors at the age of 20, which means that he doesn’t have to do a lot more than what he already does every year to be on track for something special.
Oof. Ronald losing that ball in the sun was just brutal. Why does he need to play that deep, anyway?
My favorite player in the org and might go down as my favorite ever (Dale still holds that title for me). And yes, if Albies can find some patience, the ceiling is HoF.
Sorry for the triple post, but damn, Michael. That was sheer beauty to dead center.
Oh, Ronald, good heavens. Dear Lord, what the ball does when it comes off his bat.
BACK-TO-BACK JACK.
that is the 2023 Braves team I know and love.
The Braves are so lucky to have MoneyMike. He has got to be the best #9 hitter ever and when Arcia gets on to knock out the pitcher, there is no strategic move the manager can make. If he brings in a lefty then Acuna/Albies get to hit against him. If he brings in a righty then MoneyMike gets a shot at him.
I love this team.
Walk the first guy & you could see that one coming. Looks like we’ll just have to keep scoring today.
Here’s a recent 55-minute interview with Greg Maddux discussing pitching. It’s pretty great:

yep. had my fingers crossed and still saw that coming.
Maybe Harper won’t be able to bail them out a second time.
Thanks for sharing, ububba! That’s really great.
Bad break in the field. But Iglesias is not a championship-level closer.
The “A” bullpen blew a 4-run lead today. Good job, good effort.
Even after today, Iglesias has a 3.14 ERA and that puts him in the back end of the top 10.
Iglesias is 5th in the league in Saves and has only blown three. Also, Yates seems to be rounding into form. Along with Pierce and Minter, we have 4 guys with closing experience. We got this. We are SO much better in extras this year than last.
It’s funny. I was sitting here hoping that no more than one man was on base when Harper came up…..
The irony of praising Ozzie just before he makes a potentially game losing error was not lost on me.
He should be subbed for Lopez in the ninth, as well as Rosario and pillar
Just keep scoring, fellas…
EDIT: Sense a pattern to this game? Now’s the time to disrupt it.
EDIT2: Whew… again, it’s nothing 10 runs won’t usually solve.
