The hottest teams in baseball put on quite a show last night. I hope the daytime fireworks show is a little more one-sided today as the Braves take on Cincinnati in game two of this three game set. Graham Ashcraft vs. Jared Shuster at 4:10 local time.
Matt Olson homered twice last night, Travis d’Arnoud, added a three-run blast, and Ronald Acuna Jr. and Austin Riley also hit round-trippers for the Braves, who are 48-27. Rookie phenom, Elly De La Cruz, hit for the cycle for the Reds, Joey Votto homered twice, and Braves pitchers hit three batters in the 11-10 loss.
I hope Shuster got some sleep, doesn’t walk or hit anyone, and that the Braves bring the lumber today. How many innings will the starters last? And who do you think goes yard today at Great American Smallpark?
I think Acuna is supposed to score on that. It was short but it was 2 outs after, and it’s Acuna!
Catchers doing more work!
Ding dong city again! Hope this one sticks.
I hate this. We have a 6-2 lead it it feels like we’re losing.
Edit: Ugh 6-4.
Even if/when they get Fried back, they will need one more starter.
Shuster has absolutely no put away ability. Every hit in the fourth with two strikes. He will struggle to stick long term if he can’t figure out a way to punch hitters out with 2 strikes.
Gonna be another shootout. Makes for entertaining baseball.
That K pitch by Tonkin was objectively beautiful. Tailing, at the top of the zone.
Shuster is basically replacement level right now. He’s young so presumably he has upside? But the stats and the eye test both tell me he is not dependable.
I dunno if he actually got that guy; i guess he did since they didn’t challenge, but Acuna has the most dynamic outfield arm in Atlanta since Frenchy, and he has ten times Frenchy’s accuracy. That throw was off balance with his weight moving the wrong direction.
Ozuna looking so good that Thoppy might even be able to trade him this offseason.
All-time talent, of course, but Ronald really has some inexcusable adventures on the basepaths.
Man…sometimes Eddie has some just terrible at bats
Enough with this dude. Get a stinking closed for goodness sakes
Iglesias? More like Uglesias.
OK, a little bit like last night… but the good guys won this time.
Whew!
Tonkin and Minter both looked great. Shuster actually had more success than AJSS. I think the Reds may be susceptible to good lefties. Thank goodness someone was able to hold the Reds in check. The Braves gave up a lot of runs to the Rockies and the Tigers too. I’m hoping the Braves can win the series tomorrow. I guess we need to keep banging away to win.
There’s no trading Ozuna at this point. There’s no reason to. You kept him past his transgressions, so you’ve surrendered the moral high road. He’s now worth his contract and should stay.
Recapped.
