Atlanta will try to grab a series split this evening as they wrap up a four game slate with the Friars. After a cult classic walk-off on Friday night, the bravos bats have struggled to find that big hit in the two middle games of this series. Dylan Dodd will try to keep the line moving and earn his second MLB win after holding a potent Cardinals lineup to one run earlier this week. Here is how the Braves will line up tonight.
Atlanta’s depth is truly being testing in the early goings of the 2023 season and tonight they will try to remain the only National League East team with 6+ wins in 2023. Sean Murphy will be behind the plate after Travis d’Arnaud was placed on the 7-Day concussion IL and Chawick Tromp was recalled to Atlanta. The rest of the lineup looks par for the course considering all of the injuries plaguing the club.
Seth Lugo will be the adversary trying to earn his second win as well but hopefully the Braves have a good book on him being passed around the clubhouse. Atlanta has had success against Lugo in his time coming out of the bullpen with the Mets and the Braves bats will need to bounce back in a big way to split the series in this potential NLCS matchup. I expect just that.
This game will be the featured Sunday Night Baseball matchup on ESPN. First pitch is at 7:10 pm ET. Apologies for the short preview. There’s a lot to enjoy today between Easter, The Masters and of course, Atlanta Braves Baseball. Enjoy!
How’s everyone feeling about the game tonight?
Hopeful – I’m hoping Dylan shoves again
Good things happen when you throw strikes!
And there is your clean up hitter…smh. But hey, at least we are going right, left, right, left, right, left, right in the lineup.
Dodd might not be long for this game if he doesn’t start missing some barrels. Lucky to only be down 1-0
Dodd’s not fooling anybody out there.
A handful of injuries has really exposed the team’s lack of depth. It looks real bad when all the stars aren’t out there. Rosario hitting sixth is the kind of thing that makes me doubt the existence of a loving god.
And there you go…game over
We look like scrubs this weekend. Long season, but Albies is looking like a borderline backup.
Aside from the Dodgers, what team’s depth can withstand 6 IL stints in 10 games?
Suddenly the Albies contract doesn’t seem like such a steal.
The bats are dead. The pitching is deficient, but it doesn’t matter if the offensive sequencing is terrible
Carl, it’s April. Ozzie is making five million dollars this year. Who do you want at second for that amount of money? Kirby Yates is making six million. This is an injury ridden team in the first calendar month of the season. We will be fine.
I love having a big TV with Manny Machado taking up half of my screen during a game. I despise ESPN games so much
Man, getting no runs out of that hurts.
we need to get away from the Padres. The bats have totally disappeared. There is no good excuse for batting Albies cleanup. The middle and bottom on the lineup is terrible. I’d take Arcia or Hilliard at cleanup before Albies.
Agreed… hell, Chadwick Tromp isn’t a worse choice. Why not bring Grissom up? Enough of Mr. Sub .100 already.
I feel like the team is getting worse with each game against the Padres. We win by one, lose by one, lose by three, and now we’re getting pasted. Scoring less and giving up more with each game.
Now is a good time for Luetge or Yates
To paraphrase the Joker, this team needs an enema.
Jeez, nothing going right… bad luck, Eddie.
In addition to the fact that the Padres are kicking our ass, I gotta say that I find the corporate logo on their sleeve annoying.
Outside of Strider, the starting rotation is all #4-5 starters. We really need Fried and Wright back soon.
Confused about something.
It was just two years ago that the Braves were celebrating their 150th anniversary. They wore a “150” patch all year. So, it was clearly understood the founding date of the franchise was 1871 (yes, I know they weren’t in Atlanta and they weren’t called the Braves).
A couple nights ago Brandon Gaudin said something about the team being around since 1876, but, hey, he’s a new guy, it’s okay he’s five years off.
Tonight the ESPN booth has a Braves banner up that says “Est. 1876.”
Where did 1876 come from? Has this been retconned when I wasn’t paying attention? Have I had a stroke? (Don’t answer that last one.)
The Boston Red Stockings predate the start of the National League, and therefore the start of the major leagues. The club started in 1871, the major leagues (or at least the National League) started in 1876.
I can’t seem to respond directly to Nick’s post, so I hope I’m doing this right,
That may well be what they’re thinking, although the fact that the National League is younger than the Braves doesn’t make the 1871 date correct, if you’re saying (as they are) “Atlanta Braves Est. 1876.” Or so it seems to me. It’s also grossly inconsistent with what the team was saying in 2021.
I’m rather proud of the Braves’ antiquity and think it should be emphasized, not diminished.
AA had a bad offseason and this early stretch of bad injury luck is going to reinforce that. We needed SP depth and a LF. We still do. AAA guys that throw 91 aren’t “depth”. They’re cannon fodder. Hopefully we’ll be back at closer to full strength in a week or so.
I said as much when someone said that the rotation was deep. TINSTAAPP is real. Always was, always will be.
