Dayton Moore is famous for his obsession with former Braves prospects, but this is one of the most Bravesless Royals teams in years. On the 25-man roster, they only have Jeff Francoeur, Bruce Chen, and Tim Collins, who was a Brave for all of about six seconds. So where did all the Braves go?
Just drive south north along I-29. On the Royals’ Triple-A affiliate in Omaha, you’ll find Max Ramirez, Brandon Wood, and Blaine Boyer. So if the first string gets injured, you might see some familiar names come up for cups of coffee.

Buster Olney predicts that McCann will leave at the end of the year, leaving Gattis as the catcher of the future.
I predict the Braves trade McCann in July for starting pitching.
Uh oh. Don’t look now but Tim Collins has a better line than Craig Kimbrel.
@2 Beachy? Lots can happen before July.
I’d be far more impressed if Buster had made that prediction in December.
Braves are 2-0 in games Teheran has started. “Lies, damn lies and statistics.”
@5 Bethany did.
Braves Turned Royals: Where Are They Now?
More from the Dayton Moore era:
Brayan Pena is a reserve catcher for the Tigers.
Ramon Colon. Dunno. Maybe Japan?
Wilson Betemit, injured during ST for the Baltimore Orioles.
Kyle Davies. Retired.
Jesse Chavez. AAA Sacramento/Oakland A’s affiliate.
Gregor Blanco, outfielder for the San Francisco Giants.
Melky Cabrera. Is an asshole.
Lil’ Tony Pena. Out of baseball.
Juan Cruz. After netting us Tim Hudson from the A’s, he would later be released by the Royals. Not sure where he is these days.
Ron Mahay. Out of baseball.
Horacio Ramirez. Last seen with the Angels.
Odalis Perez. Out of baseball.
John Thomson. Out of baseball.
I remember hanging in there with John Thomson well past his sell-by date.
@7, We were already impressed with Bethany at that point.
I can’t believe they’re gonna try to play baseball in Denver tonight. So much snow.
#11
They’re playing right now.
In fact, David Wright just hit a HR into a snowbank.
@10 Awww, I think that’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever said about me.
I think snow baseball is one of the coolest things. The crowd in Denver obviously disagrees.
Apparent package bomb went off at a thrift store down the road. Helicopters still circling EAV.
Spike, where are you?
East of the stadium, about 2 miles. Memorial Dr is closed between Moreland and Maynard Terrace
That’s where I used to live. Hope nobody is hurt.
Please don’t lose because of stellar play by Francoeur.
apparently the person who opened it was burned, but no word on severity yet.
Oh Dan.
Oh Dan.
Not even Freeman could have saved that throw, Dan. Get it a bit closer to the base.
Thanks Jeffy!
That right there was just the most Francoeur at-bat ever.
That could only have been more classic Jeffrey if there had been only one out for the double play.
Good old Jeffy. That’s why he’s the little icon on the browser tab here.
nice applause for Jeff there; classy fans
Those low strike calls better be going both ways.
Don’t know why Gattis watched those last two float past him.
Uggla was safe by a mile.
JUAN!
FATJUAN WITH THE LASER BOMB!!!
When he hits ’em, they stay pretty well hit.
JUAAAAAAN!
If you hit it hard enough, you don’t really have to elevate.
Platoon Attack.
Chris Johnson is what sophisticated baseball fans call “the hot hand”.
Frenchy’s arm isn’t what it was, but at least he still has… um, a really gullible GM.
Chris Johnson just keeps hitting, somehow.
And Simmons has a Frenchy AB. He infuriates me at the plate.
That lead lasted long.
Ugh. Thanks for bringing up that HR information, guys.
Ball is flying out of the park tonight.
954 ABs since last Getz homer. Grrr…
Not a good pitch, Kris. Keep it down from now on.
@39 – Simmons had a good stretch of HRs and doubles in the WBC; I think he thinks he’s a better power hitter than he actually is.
Hopefully he changes his approach soon.
I think Simmons will eventually be an above average hitter. There’s a lot to like about his swing.
@45: That’s what I worried about then, too. We saw it with Furcal when he started falling in love with his power stroke.
Just looked up Furcal and, to be fair, his overall hitting stats didn’t suffer when he started smacking home runs.
Ramiro Pena, Jordan Schafer, Chris Johnson & Juan Francisco have had 102 PAs & so far they’re 370/394/500 with 4 HR & 16 RBI (in 12 games +3 innings).
That’s a long way from the 2012 Eric Hinske.
I like having a SS with a little pop. He’s gonna fill out that frame as he gets older. I think he’s gonna hit a lot of homeruns.
Don’t get me wrong, I also think Simmons will be above average with the bat. It’s probably just some growing pains since he was kinda rushed to the bigs.
Can’t believe I agree with Chip, it seems that BJ is getting out of his funk.
And darnit, another Heyward fly to the warning track.
Oh Juan.
Wow that looked low.
Poor Medlan; two throwing errors and catcher’s interference when the pitcher was batting. He can’t be happy with the defense.
Please tell me that didn’t just happen.
That just happened.
Pitch sequence to Franceoueouer sucked. All fastballs? C’mon.
Jesus.
So was Gattis the one that chose to call all fastballs to Francoeur, or someone from the Braves’ bench?
Did this team not watch Jeffy ‘hit’ when he was in Atlanta? Why oh why would you throw anything but a slider away or fastball at his eyes with 2 strikes??
Gattis doesn’t know the hitters, but would they let him call such a crucial situation?
Either way Medlen could just have shook the pitch off.
Time to redeem yourself, Gattis.
Hey, there’s nothing embarrassing about being shut down by the immortal Jeremy Guthrie.
I think I’m about to tip my cap.
still early, I’m not worried….
at least Medlen has looked better than his first 2 starts; defense hasn’t helped him today.
Oh come on. This is a team that can win late quite well.
Defensive clinic tonight.
Yay, a gift.
*sigh*
Bah!
Checking in late on this game thread, I’ve always wondered one thing: did the Royals have this “come to Jesus” moment with Dayton where they said, “You need to stop filling your roster with Braves retreads. You don’t work for Atlanta anymore. Move on.” It just seems like it took too many failures for him to stop, and he seemed to stop abruptly.
You drive NORTH on 1-29 to Omaha from KayCee.
Well hey, at least with Simmons getting on last inning, we cleared Melvin.
@73 you should be joking about Jason.
“Well hey, at least with Simmons getting on last inning, we cleared Melvin.”
It would have been better if we cleared the right fielder.
Justin needs to lead off, just so we can maximize his ABs. Nobody will be on base when he bats third anyways.
Yeah, it’s looking like a Cap Tip Night.
@76 – Lol, now this I can agree with
The horrendous infield defense is starting to show, I guess.
Just keep it close
Let’s see if the strategy of making their pitcher tired by running the bases pays off.
Is Medlen about to implode here?
Someone get on for Pena.
JUAN IS MY HERO
It’s a Juan-Man show!
Hell Yeah!
I think we need to get this guy more ABs.
There you go.
Amazing!
Juan is a rally killer.
I do it myself.
Am I the only one who half-expects Juan Francisco to hit a big home run at some point this season, and then get called out for missing a base somewhere?
Guess you have to PH here. Sorry Kris.
DeWitt does not inspire confidence in this move though.
Snitkered once again.
Out. Snitkered.
I take it back. Was there a tag applied?
Fran-f***ing-coeur.
still sliding head first
Actually think he was safe.
Snitker had no choice but to send him given that our 1 and 2 hitters were due up next.
Pretty much the only thing Francoeur can do well (other than occasionally run into fastballs over the plate) is throw people out from the outfield. And the team just let him do that.
Gah, he was safe.
Not having seen the play, if it was anywhere near being close, then you have to send him at home late in a tie.
I don’t mind sending him in that situation. Late innings, tie game, fast runner, and it would have required a great throw to get him.
I think Simmons was safe. Had either that call or the Uggla call at first gone our way, we’d be up 3-2 right now, and Medlen would be the pitcher of record.
It was the right call to send him. The throw was perfect, it happens.
He got in. Of course Angel Hernandez is terrible, so it doesn’t matter. Plus out manager is a wuss
All kidding aside, it was the right call to send him. It took an absolutely perfect throw. Great play, even though the catcher missed the tag.
I can’t really tell if a tag was applied or not, but I don’t disagree with sending him with 2 outs.
Dammit, Simmons. They just showed the clip of him not running full speed. He’s such a space cadet.
That was a great replay showing that Simmons was not running hard the whole way. If he is hustling all the way he makes it.
It’s not like he went to walking. He really didn’t slow up that much
Nice running catch by Jason. We’ve just gotta hold them until lightning strikes.
“Don’t watch the baseball.”
Unless you’re Lonnie Smith.
Dear Joe Simpson
Jeff Francoeur is not a good fielder.
How many throwing errors does Jeffy make each year. There is a reason they run on him
Nats are losing 7-2 to the Marlins. I had no idea the Marlins could score 7 runs in a single game.
@116
I had no idea they could score 7 in a week
I was prepared for the gushing about Francoeur from the nitwits in the booth. Still, nothing changes the fact that he was arguably the worst position player in baseball last season.
Why are they talking about walkoffs in the 8th? I should really just turn the sound off.
Herrera is sick.
JASON HAS AWAKENED!
J HEY!
Bout frickin’ time. Nice Jason.
Release the Kimbrel!
BAM!!!
That’s what we’ve been waiting for!
WHOOOOOOO!!!!
Totally jinxed him. Sucker.
Nice to see Heyward get ahold of one and not have it die on the warning track
And there you go. Faith is rewarded for the moment.
Holy crap.
oh…. oh my
BAM!!!!!!!!
BAM BAM!
Oh yeah.
yes!
Welcome to Home Run Derby!
Good gravy…that baseball was HURT.
I love this team!
My God! That was killed!
My God. He destroyed it.
Seldom have I hated and loved a team more than I have today.
oh my
Justin hit that ball a long long long long way.
@142
Just keep it close
HIS NAME IS DAN UGGLA AND HE WANTS IN ON THE FUN
HUGGLA!!!!!!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHA! These are still the Royals!
Uggla you beautiful home run hitting moron!
This is fun.
Throwing hard is not always enough.
I should have started watching earlier.
lolRoyals Reliever.
Lol…Guthrie was throwing too slow for us.
Lol what just happened
silly
They need to put a net up in left. Someone may get hurt
Around the league, Haren and Stammen collaborated to put the Nats in a 7-0 hole against Miami, 7-2 now in the 7th.
Well this is fun.
This Herrera kid has some lightning stuff, though. He only gave up four homers all of last year, 84.1 innings.
Guess they prefer the hard throwers.
Meds deserved the win, but this has been a spectacular half-inning.
ha.. just realized the Braves hit more home runs this game than the Royals have hit all season coming into this game
This team has seemed to be much better against relievers than starters. Whatever. I am IN LOVE with our outfield.
Also, @72, thanks, I fixed it in the post.
How ’bout them Peach Clobbers?
Not to be outdone…SUCCESS!!!
After what they did to Herrera…I’m just going to bench any fantasy pitchers I have facing the Braves. I mean, Herrera’s normally quite good.
I-85 AAR?
There is the Frenchy I know!
Franceour’s right arm vs. the legs of Success. We know who wins that one!!!
Johnson is on fire.
This is where the manager needs to just crap on the “save chance is for closers” stupidity, bottom of the order coming up and a three run lead. There’s no reason for Kimbrel to save this.
And typing that, Platoon probably takes care of it.
And time to sit Kimbrel back down. No save tonight. But Schafer, Chris Johnson and DeWitt all did something useful tonight, and how often does that happen?
Now Kimbrel won’t even get a save.
Nobody’s complimenting that throw.
KRAKEN misses out on SAVE opportunity.+
KRAKEN don’t care.
Andrelton had a really nice at-bat last time, when he got the single, and this was a 10-pitch AB here. Even in a fly out, I like that approach.
Oh, this we did not need.
Ah crud.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Uh oh…
Ouch. Hamstring? Not good.
That did not look good.
Oh no. Not Avilan. He looks like he’ll be out for a while.
Someone want to tell me why one of our best bullpen guys was even out there?
This looks really bad.
I’m with Joe — I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.
That sucks. I’ve been nursing a hammy pull for the last 2 years, it is a total pain in the back of the leg.
I was thinking that Ayala should be pitching, but then I remembered that Avilan hadn’t seen much action in the last week. Hope his injury isn’t as bad as it looks.
Yeah, I’ve never seen a pitcher collapse from a hammy. That’s something I associate as a running injury.
All of our bullpen guys are one of our best guys.
Could be the posterior cruciate ligament?
That much pain, it’s probably worse than a pull… right?
Kimbrel?
Oh, please don’t say ligament. I don’t think so, though. Looked like he was favoring the backside of his leg below the buttocks. I didn’t know there was a ligament in the posterior area?
Just looked it up and that’s a knee injury. Duh. No, I don’t think this is a knee injury.
Kimbrel was already warmed up… I guess.
97mph- good to see Kimbrel’s got some of his velocity back.
Well at least Kimbrel’s velocity looks fine.
Behind the knee. Connects to the hamstring.
he was holding pretty high up on the leg. I’m no dr., but I would guess hammy tear to some degree.
@192, it could. I strained that one too. It’s a pain in the ass.
Edit: Sorry, I was thinking of the gluteus minimus.
COuld Gearin not come out and warm up?
He was definitely grabbing the back of his thigh so it’s not a knee ligament, but it looked really, really painful so I don’t know if that is good or bad.
That’s three of our bullpen guys on the DL so far this year. Good thing we have some depth.
I suspect the PCL because Avilan was holding the part of his thigh just above the knee when he was being carted off.
Nice play all around
Great play to end it.
Whew, what a game.
Okay, Uggla. Way to end a ball game gone shitty. Hope Avilan is okay.
Dan with the surprisingly good defense to end it.
First ten-game winning streak this century? Guys, thanks for the birthday present!
It was such a cool game until Avilan got hurt, that really put a damper on things.
“Thatโs three of our bullpen guys on the DL so far this year.”
And they’re all pretty good ones too. The bullpen would look amazing if they were all healthy.
At least Kimbrel and O’Flaherty are okay, knock on wood.
I have a friend who chased the teenager who assaulted her daughter. She tore her all 3 attachments of her hamstring to her pelvis. It is called a pop eye. It usually is a water skiing injury.
I assume Cory Rasmus will get the call?
Venters is eligible to come off I think – anyone know how he is doing?
/ugh never mind – I looked it up, guess I forgot how bad off he is.
@185 – This.
I don’t want to blame Fredi, but that should’ve been Varvaro or the sidearmer out there
After picking up both of Tehran’s starts and getting the win tonight, O’flaherty has 3 wins already, more than a lot of starters in the league
Rasmus has good numbers so far.
As someone pointed out over at BBTF, we’ll be down to one lefty if Avilan is down for a while.
When was the last time 5 HRs resulted in only 6 runs?
I’m not gonna get mad at Fredi for not being able to predict an injury. I think having Avilan out there was fine, and what happened was a complete freak accident. Gotta roll with the punches.
217-I suspect Rasmus is the guy. He’s already on the 40-man and although he’s righthanded his stuff is tough on lefties. Fortunately we don’t play the Phillies again until July. But given that Venters is no sure thing, Wren is probably going to start looking to make a trade.
Headline from Miami: “Marlins use Zimmerman error to pound Nationals.”
Yeah I have no problem with Avilan being out there. Realistically, He’s our fourth best reliever.
Also no problem with Kimbrel cleaning it up. They give you all the time you want if you’re replacing an injured pitcher, but a lot of guys don’t take it. Just take the guy who is warm, who also happens to be dominant, and don’t screw around. Get it over with and get the W.
I’m not expert on physiology, but if Avilan was prone to pull a hammy on the evening of April 16th, wouldn’t he be just as likely to pull a hammy on April 17th?
Well. One concern is just how fast we racked up all those runs. I worry about Kimbrel in situations like that, too. In half an inning, you go from maybe a multi-inning guy warming up, to the closer warming up, to wanting to shut down the closer and get someone else out there.
Now, I don’t know if that was the case. I know Gearrin was warming behind Medlen. When Medlen got himself out of the inning, and then was pinch hit for, I don’t know who got up. Might very well have been Avilan.
But, yeah, I can imagine how changing plans quickly out there can lead to unforeseen trouble.
It was 6-2, not 20-2.
@226 – Who are you responding to?
Post game guys said it was just a pull and cramping. I don’t believe them.
Just to piggy back, there’s really no justification to criticize Fredi’s use of the bullpen tonight. Avilan is on the roster and was a perfectly fine choice to close out the suddenly- 6-2 lead. No way you predict that injury, and it’s silly to suggest that the injury was due to some sort of misuse or overuse of a guy 12 games into the season. Going to Kimbrel to close it out, be done with the night and get into the clubhouse to see what the doctors are saying about the guy you just lost is a good move too.
Cramping can be painful as hell, so it’s possible. But I’ll wait to see tomorrow’s reports on what the injury entails.
7 game turnaround since last year. Expos were up 2 1/2 are behind now 4 1/2.
Honestly, Fredi is not perfect, but he is improving in front of our eyes every year. Let’s celebrate the home runs and another fine start by Medlen. Avilan should be fine.
I’m fine with the decision to use Avilan, and I’m glad he brought in Kimbrel considering that Kimbrel was already warm.
I’m just glad we won. Injuries to relievers suck, particularly when they’re really good relievers, but they happen. That isn’t on the manager. We won ugly tonight, but as long as we have more homers than errors, we should be alright.
ESPN currently projects Jupton at 100 HR for the season http://espn.go.com/mlb/homeruns . That would be a seriously good season.
It’s believable that this could be just a strain, as the Braves postgame show reported. Of course, strains can evolve into tears, so you have to be careful with it.
Frank Wren’s on quite a roll, what with him having anticipated this and trading for a reliever a week ago.
@230 Yep, I agree, we’ll just have to wait until tomorrow to see what is up. It didn’t look good, though.
If there’s bruising he’s screwed for a while.
Yes, 100 HRs would indeed be a good season. I agree with that statement.
25HR in 13 games. That’s a lot.
So, I’m in Denver, MLB.tv is being a complete bitch over the hotel’s “wifi” and I have an mid-morning flight (local time) home tomorrow morning. So I’m going to put off writing up the game summary for tonight’s win until tomorrow morning when hopefully I’ll have better access to video bandwidth. (We’re in prime porn viewing time for the travelling / hotel staying set…)
#236
Bruising = tear?
I still can’t believe we got Justin Upton, what the hell were they thinking?
@240, bruising means a level 2 strain, if I remember right. I pulled all three points of mine (no bruising) and it still bugs me from time to time. Of course I don’t have MLB level rehab here in Woodville.
@234: Did they factor in games where Justin sits to get a little work in for Success?
The Braves acquired Justin Upton in a secret, previously undisclosed program in which Major League Baseball instructed the national media to ignore the Braves while instructing other teams to trade their good players to the Braves, and then see just how long it would take before anyone realized.
In my adult-softball-league days, my calf cramped up one night jogging to first on a lazy fly ball, hurt so bad I swore I’d torn it. Practically crawled off the field. Two hours later I felt fine. Took it easy for about a week, but kept getting cramps at random, waking in the middle of the night with charlie horses.
Then one night it happened again, just jogging out to take my position. But this time, it bled out like crazy, right down in to my shoe. The next day, it looked like I was wearing a purple stirrup with no sock.
So.. Yeah, not terribly useful. Just that, yeah, it could be a cramp. And even it is, it could turn in to a tear.
@242: Not positive, but they also project John Buck and Dexter Fowler at 81 homers. I’m pretty sure I want the under on those… not so sure on Justin.
Of course, that brings up a question I’ve often had… What’s the maximum number of HR it’s possible to hit in a season? At some point, pitchers would just prefer to walk you, so there must be a strategic upper limit on home runs. I suspect 100 is actually unattainable. since at some point the only time they’d pitch to you was with the bases loaded in a tie game in the bottom of the ninth or in extra innings.
Edit: although with Frenchy in town, I should note that you might pitch to a guy certain to hit a home run just to kill the rally.
Cramps can feel like tears. I was carried off a field about 3 years ago with calf cramps. I couldn’t stand up or put weight on it. They can be miserable and will probably come back randomly for about a week. I hope it’s cramps or a strain and not a tear. We need that guy in our pen.
227 — The guys who said Avilan shouldn’t have been pitching.
@239
If for whatever reason you make it up to Fort Collins tomorrow or are still in town for the Braves series next week, I’ll gladly by you a beer.
@234
Also the team W-L record now projects to 150-12. C’mon guys, we can do it!
Greetings from Rome! I just woke up to the news of a 10-game win streak! Unreal! Keep up the good work, bravos!
On a personal note, I’ll be traveling back home today and have a lovely 5-hour layover at the ATL airport. Suggestions on where to hang out?
Medlen was pitching so well early. The three free outs (catcher’s interference with an AL pitcher at the plate is definitely giving away an out) early obfuscated the fact that he was carving through that lineup with absurd efficiency. He gave up a HR and a bloop single before they were able to string together two regular hits. I realize the Royals aren’t an elite lineup, but it looked like the Medlen we saw last year.
Plus, what was with all of the curve balls? I counted 4 in his first 21 pitches, and he continued to go back to it, throwing it as a strike and in the dirt. I know he had a curve last year, but I remember it being more of a “show me” pitch, and Medlen mostly relied on fastballs and his changeup. And that curve was looking good. It had some real bite on it. At least a 5, and it played up because he was generally locating it pretty well. I was really, really impressed with him.
Last thing: Seriously? We’re going to blame Fredi for Avilan getting hurt? That’s absurd. It was a freak thing, Avilan hadn’t pitched in a while…. What do you want?
I don’t know about the rest of you, but this injury is clearly Andruw’s fault.
“Kimbrel has struck out seven batters in 6 2/3 innings. Letโs round up to seven innings for simplicity. Last year, Kimbrel never struck out as few as seven batters in a seven-inning stretch. He never struck out as few as eight in any seven-inning stretch. Just twice did he strike out as few as nine in a seven-inning stretch. Just noting this. Not caring about this, but noting it.”
From BP.
Sorry, injuries happen, but I don’t think you put in one of your only two lefties with a 4 run lead in the 9th against the Royals. I really hope it is just a cramp and a DL stint gives it time enough to heal.
Feliz Avilan will be well or he won’t. The Braves are winning without Freddie, BMac, Beachy, Venters, Lisp and CHIPPER. Take heart, and give ’em heck, Braves.
*Luis Avilan
Right. Luis Navidad.
Makes me giggle every time.
Found this on another site. Small sample size, blah blah blah.
Upton: .340, .404, .900, 8 HR, 12 RBI, 2 SB(0 CS)
Johnson: .415, .442, .537, 1 HR, 5 RBI
Martin Prado: .281, .333, .439, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 0 SB(1 CS)
Randall Delgado(AAA): 3 starts, 10.03 ERA, 4 HR, 1.714 WHIP
Nick Ahmed(AA): 11 games, .152, .211, .152, 0 XBH, 0 SB(1 CS)
Brandon Drury(A): 9 games, .167, .211, .306, 0 HR, 3 RBI
Expectation are too high for Kimbrel to match last years numbers. Don’t see how anyone can sustain those k numbers, especially a reliever. Either way, I expect more k’s from him as the weather warms up and we get into the later part of the season.
Avilan isn’t Kimbrel or EOF. Some of these guys need to pitch and get some late inning action. Keep in mind this was a tie ball game going to the bottom of the 8th. That’s why Avilan and Kimbrel were already warming up. Fredi is not at fault here.
The unbelievable thing is that Don sang “Luis Navidad” on the air. It was perhaps the most exciting thing to happen so far this season ๐
Don and Jim are 1000x’s better than Joe and Chip
@252. Have to blame frenchy too. Something bad has to happen when he is around.
@255 or BJ, or Uggla, or Heyward, or Simmons. Though this group has all contributed defensively at least. Still, if this team can play like this on 6 cylinders, how will it do on 12 (or even 9)? That is where it gets heady and as a braves fan I get a little out of my comfort zone and am unsure how to act anymore.
@265
Makes me think that football scores will start showing up soon.
@262 That is completely bizarre and it makes me wonder if he reads bravesjournal.
Any multiple times zero is zero.
Don and Jim are 1000xโs better than Joe and Chip
So much so that I don’t mind not having any tv games this year nearly as much as I thought I would.
@267, It was unfortunate because Jim was not nearly as amused as he should’ve been.
Don, if you read this, check out our glossary. This is what all the cool kids are saying: http://bravesjournal.us/?page_id=2497
Can someone add ‘Success’ or ‘F-ing Success’ to the Braves Journal Glossary?
@268 – The Aztecs did not think it was necessary to invent a number that would accurately portray how much better Don and Jim are over Chip and Joe. That number only exists in a dimension beyond our own.
It would not surprise me at all if Jim Powell reads BravesJournal.
Apparently Avilan is walking with a limp, but that’s better than not being able to walk, and it doesn’t rule out that it could have just been a real bad cramp.
@272
It wouldn’t suprise me if he posted on here
More anonymous roto-updates…
Wed, Apr 17
Brian McCann was in Atlanta earlier this week to have his right wrist examined.
Advice: McCann complained of tenderness in the wrist, so the Braves didn’t want to take any chances. He was originally expected to test his surgically-repaired shoulder behind the plate in extended spring training games later this week, but it’s not clear if the wrist will have an impact on his timeline. Evan Gattis and Gerald Laird will continue to fill in behind the plate until McCann is ready to return.
I’m not sure what the expected timeframe was/is for McCann, but all along I’ve been hoping for April 26, which is the first game in an AL ballpark.
Running out of time for that.
wat
I’m not an expert, but red bull before physical activity is probably not a good idea.
So does that make Avilan El Toro Rojo to go with El Oso Blanco?
“wat”
I know, right? Powerade over Gatorade?
Atlanta’s a Coca-Cola city. Makes sense that they went with the Coke product.
This reminds me of Brian McCann blaming his vision problems on excessive energy drink consumption โย which was also one of the reasons that Josh Hamilton gave for his late-season swoon last year.
I think it’s possible that energy drinks are just, like, not good for you.
Caffeine has been loosely linked to long-term vision problems, but I doubt there is any acute effect.
I believe that is the general consensus, yes.
I think in McCann’s case it was dehydrating him.

…we live in a wonderful age.
A couple of minor pitching notes from last night.
Kimbrel moved into 30th place on the Braves career pitching appearance list with 170.
Medlen moved into 50th place on the Braves career pitching appearance list with 123.
O’Flaherty’s victory, 13th with the Braves, moves him into a tie for 72nd along side such notables as Terry Mulholland, Charlie Puleo and Ron Schueler.
(This is as much a reflection of how many BAD teams performed during the ’70s and ’80s.
