You have to love the random Friday off in the middle of the first series of the year. Why the day off when you’re going to play eighteen times this year? Because.

game might have to be pushed back an hour or 2. weather looking rough at 1 eastern.

Nothing wakes you up like finding a grenade on your morning stroll through the garden.
…waiting on cops to arrive…
@2
Holy Shit! Are you serious? Where do you live? I might find a lawn torpedo on a stroll through my neighborhood, but that’s about it.
Same lineup as Opening Day. DOB also anticipates that the Braves will place JJ on the DL retroactive to his last Spring start and call Minor up to fill his rotation spot.
I wish I was kidding. I live on what used to be a cattle farm outside of Athens and it’s not unusual for the odd old tractor part to wash up to the surface in the spring rains, but never something like this. WTF!!
Because I have no desire for a chat with the authorities, I won’t share my plethora of ideas on where you could send this.
So… finally splurged and bought mlb.tv premium. Any advice?
just this – Share your user name and password with me.
@6, one of my primary uses is to watch games I miss due to life crap. They show up a couple of hours after the game is over, and mlb.tv is way more versatile than a DVR since I can access it from virtually any device, including my phone.
However, you have to protect yourself from score reveal. Just to be safe, I go ahead and pull up the screen for the game if I’m on Roku or PS3 so I can just hit play later that night without a score reveal. I also try to do that on the phone, but it’s trickier, and I’m not usually able to pull it off. On the computer, make sure to run the interface asap (by watching any old game) and turn the scores off. Do this on any computer you plan to use.
Of course, if you’re only watching out-of-market games in real time, then you don’t have to worry about any of that.
desert,
if you have an iphone, the mlbatbat app combined with mlbtv premium lets you watch games on the go.
i’ve had mlbtv for 5 years now and love it.
Correction. With the new iOS (new since last season), it’s pretty easy to just bring up the “Videos” screen of the game so you can pull up the game without the score later. The app opens to a page that reveals the score, but the iOS now allows you to run the app in the background, so when you switch back to it, it’s still on the Videos screen. This will be much easier than not using my phone for three hours during games.
Now we’re waiting for the disposal squad to arrive from Athens. I’m told there’s a better than even chance that it is live. It’s missing the pin and handle and mud may be the only thing keeping it from detonating. I just tilled that plot a week ago. Feeling even luckier than usual.
Sweet… I’m really excited about this. Thank you all for your advice. Is there a noticeable difference in video quality between premium and regular?
11—Unbelievable. Wonder how long it’s been there.
I can hear the pregame, but I have no picture, anyone else having this problem?
Warm and breezy here in KS. Braves baseball, and shish-ka-babs marinated as we speak. Again, life is good.
@14, I have no picture issues.
I’m feeling an episode or two of “In Their Own Words” before first pitch.
=/
Rain delay by what the radio is saying.
supposedly only a 30 minute delay.
@17, good call
Thanks to Cox, it looks like I get to watch the Braves on a free Extra Innings preview here in KS rather than watching it on my comp.
Greetings from Las Vegas…
url,
Buy a lottery ticket.
1:35 ET start time
Hmm, looks like the Chipperometer may have to come into play.
Looks like Tommy has altered his mechanics a bit. He seems to be hiding the ball behind his body a bit better.
I got to get this off my chest: Nate throws like a 4 year old. There. Now go Braves!
Laroche has a career OPS of .699 in March and April.
I’m surprised it’s that high.
He is an August stud. However, a guy is on third with him at the plate in April, so we’re okay.
What is hansons normal velocity? He’s only hitting 91 right now.
He usually starts a game around 94.
urlhix, I’m an environmental lawyer and have a focus on cleanup of military ranges. You’d be amazed at the number and variety of munitions that just show up in the strangest places. I’d love to see a photograph of your grenade if you can provide a link. Thanks!
Looked like 91-93 on the masn broadcast (yikes, those guys are in the Chip category) which is what it has been since his first season pretty much.
This
http://www.fox5sandiego.com/news/kswb-crew-digs-up-military-shell-in-120810,0,4111630.story
was a 37 mm artillery shell found across the street from my client’s munitions cleanup site in Tierrasanta, CA. The shell had to be controlled detonated — luckily the backhoe the operator was using didn’t strike the shell.
I think it’s fair to say that Hanson looks pretty bad out there. And the gametracker says he’s only hitting 90-91 mph with his fastball.
Is Hanson getting squeezed?
36—Not at all. He’s got absolutely no command of anything, so far.
Gamecast sucks – it shows 1/3 of Hanson’s pitches called balls as being on the inside half of the plate.
MClOUTh found a way to get on base.
Strike zone looks really tight up high, but his control looks really bad at the same time. Nothing to worry about, I hope, just a bad day early on.
Who is this Jones guy?
YEAH!
Chipper is what you would call a “professional hitter”.
Hopefully Uggla and Prado can get going. The Braves should be putting a lot of runs up against pitchers like John Lannan.
Chipper gets it, at least.
@44, I don’t know. Last year the team died against mediocre lefties. Uggla will help a bit with that, but I’m pretty happy with one run against a lefty starter.
This team wins games against lefties when the bullpen takes over. Count it.
Get on base here, Danny.
UGH – la.
CHIPPEROMETER http://twitpic.com/4g6j19
So… I didn’t see any of McLouth’s spring training at-bats, but he doesn’t look too comfortable out there now. He’s whiffed on at least two 87-88 MPH heaters from Lannan thus far.
46 – I suppose I was hoping for more out of the offense this year. But fair enough.
Heyward has a much better arm than McLouth.
Tommy Hanson pisses me off.
According to Gameday, Hanson is grooving 90mph fastballs right down broadway.
51—So do I.
Here’s where Uggla shocks all of us with an unassisted triple play.
Frustrating game. Hanson has no control and the Masn announcers are terrible
Remember when Tommy Hanson struck guys out? Those were the good old days.
We might see the Lisp before too long.
@12
The only difference between premium and regular is the dvr controls which this year, I’ve decided I don’t need to spend an extra 20 bucks on because I basically never use them.
I wasn’t expecting to able to watch this game. Guess the saturday blackout starts at 1pm PST.
Hanson is really, really awful.
Gads, Ankiel.
Maybe Hanson fell asleep on his arm last night.
Bloody hell…
31 strikes, 29 balls, through three innings.
The MASN broadcast just showed the Ankiel-Zimmerman high five in extreme slo-mo.
I’m not sure that was necessary.
This has really gotten ugly–it would at least be nice if some of our players could get their first hits of the season today….
The upside here is that, historically, Lannan falls apart after 50-60 pitches. Let’s make some hay.
McLouth has probably moved ahead of AAG for Whipping Boy, right?
Wonder if Martin well ever get another hit.
Yes. And the rain is starting HARD.
Wow, sleet. Big sleet.
Makes sense to me….
Sucky weather for baseball in DC.
man, I’m having a lot of trouble with mlb.tv to start the year. Still can’t get the Braves feed and now the picture is doubled.
Just when Tommy was actually starting to look like a major-league pitcher…
I gotta say, I’m hoping the weather never lets up, and they have to cancel this one.
No, then the Braves lose.
Huh? It’s the fourth inning.
It’s the bottom of the fourth, and the home team is ahead.
I thought it had to be 5 innings, period, to call a game.
Funky weather here – rain and sleet, cold wind and lightning.
And nice clear blue sky approaching from the west.
80—Right, and that’s not enough innings.
81—It’s 5 innings, or 4.5 with the home team ahead, for the game to be final when called.
Oh, yeah, my bad. Go hail.
From the rulebook:
I’m pulling for (e) to happen.
No such luck, clear to the west. Bring on the Lisp.
The ticker is funny. The game has been delayed due to “an incident at the stadium.”
Unfortunately they have all the time in the world to wait this one out. Tommy needs to learn to throw strikes again.
Miracles can happen, Jeff K.
Hanson’s mechanics still suck. He’s literally standing straight up and twirling.
Hanson and McLouth for McCutchen. Get it done, Wren!
Hanson looked fine this spring, and I’m sure the loss of control is only temporary. I am, however, very concerned about his dropping strikeout totals, a process that began mid-way through last summer.
@91,
He just needs another pitch, or develop one of his pitches that will put guys away
So if this rain delay stretches the game past four, even you folks in Georgia will get blacked out, huh?
Tommy needs to trust his change up more and learn how to locate his fastball a little bit better
Lannan is staying in. The Lisp is throwing in the braves bullpen.
Man, long delay after the weather passed through. I guess the umps took afternoon tea.
Well, speaking of miracles, that turned out about as well as it could have. The AWESOME ordinance team dug a knee-deep hole out in our woods, brought out the robot, moved the pineapple to the hole, dropped a directional ordinance on top of it and then BOOM!
/PTSD
Those EOD teams are pretty cool. Glad everything ended up safe.
And, um, GO BRAVES!!! We got this.
Edit: Thanks Jeff K. I didn’t get a picture of the grenade before I hauled ass but I’ll link to some photo’s of the response after we get them up.
That’s our All-Star centerfielder.
@97, Wow! Glad no one got hurt.
YAHOO!
Nice first hit as a Brave.
Right-handed power!
I think that’s 17 pitches seen in three PAs for Heyward. A former Braves right-fielder would go three games without seeing that many.
Fred in the 8-spot is going give managers fits all year.
Salt!
And go 1-16 during that stretch.
If Fred stays in the 8-spot all year, it’ll give me fits. He has no business hitting behind AAG. Or, for that matter, Nate McLouth.
Saaaweeeet!
Let’s go, Brooksie.
Time for a folk hero moment.
Awfully nice of Riggleman to switch Brooksie around for us…
EDIT: Darn. It burns me up to see guys swing at ball-four and ultimately get out.
Next time.
Doh, Martin hitting the ball pretty hard but nothing to show for it.
Oh, this freaking team.
@107, You’re right. I probably should have said he’ll give managers fits no matter where he hits, LOL. Love me some Freeman.
Now into the dregs of the ‘pen.
EDIT: ACtually, by far the best velocity we’ve had all day.
Hail earlier and now the sun is out and shadows moving in over the plate. Nice.
Was it… HAIL?
Does that leave Prado as the only regular without a hit?
Nate’s first hit too. Miracles do happen.
Nice hit by Nate.
Single?
117—Yup.
Argh. Two more singles and nothing.
In all the build up to the season starting, I’d forgotten that there are types of games which I absolutely hate watching.
Me too, Stu. Except I can’t watch this game because i’m f’in blacked out.
Is McLouth the whipping boy yet?
Dont worry, you just missed Nate pulling a Nate in the outfield.
Well, that was Melkylicious.
You kinda knew that was going to happen.
Is it just me or have there been extremely long silences in both broadcasts so far?
What is this team going to do about center field? Hinske to right and Heyward to center?
I swear, over the past three years this team must lead the league in triples given up.
130—He’s in Gwinnett, right now. 😉
UGH. Bitten on the Ankiel again.
“The only reason I’m in Gwinnett right now is to limit my service time. The Braves don’t want me as a Super Two.”
#Gwinning
Dooooooooooooooooommmeeed.
Well, there’s always next year.
My cable is screwed up. I can’t see my HD or movie channels. The only other station I am having issues with is Sports South. I can hear the game, but can’t see it
Sea Bass!
Oh, Chipper. Yeesh.
This game has really sucked.
Well this game has been frustrating.
Well we had a good run. Thoughts on what we need to do in 2012?
I’m glad that EOF has become so reliable for us, even though I think O’Failurety is a funny nickname.
So, there’s only 1 error in the books, but I can think of at least 3 plays that should have been made. This team’s defense is going to be frustrating.
Terrible defense just like in ST. That`s gonna haunt them all year.
Lol @ 136, 142
143—I agree. The best part about the nickname used to be that it really bothered Portland State student Greyson “Gadfly” Ruback.
Can the Nationals stop making circus plays against us already?
Geesh, what does Martin have to do to get a hit? Another good defensive play by the Nats.
Talk about circus plays.
Season over!
Dammit.
good lord who the hell is this guy?
@ 147: Apparently not
One thing I really hate is everything.
FRNAK WREN IST HE WROST GENEARL MAGANER EVER.
Martin Prad-Out sucks!! Nate McLOUT sucks!! Jason HeyOut sucks!! Trade everyone for prospects and call it a year.
Recapped.
I would totally prefer Juan Abreau, Stephen Marek, or Jairo to Linebrink and Sherill. In terms of Sherill, I know all the AAA guys are righties, but with venters and O’FLaherty, we’re pretty good in the lefty department.
