Hall & Oates. “Maneater.” Guess it had to be done.
Last time I was at JFK airport, I saw GE Smith carrying his guitar.

I heard a great description of pre-season NFL—non-alcoholic beer.

DOB said this in a comment on his blog:
Well, you probably won’t like this, folks: Bobby said Andruw hasn’t mentioned to him that he might need rest, etc, or that the elbow’s still hurting when he swings. Andruw says he wouldn’t ask to be rested — “Not against these guys,” he said of the Phils and Mets — and said it’s gonna take two months of rest before his elbow gets any better.
In other words, he sounds like he plans to keep playing through it. Said it hurts when he extends on his swing, especially when he doesn’t make contact (I’ll reserve comment on that), but also when he does hit the ball. But, he said, “It’s no excuse for not producing.”
csg
on August 11, 2007 at 5:03 pm
wouldn’t you expect to hear the opposite of that from someone who is suppose to be a good hitter.
You would expect to hear “It hurts when I hit the ball, but it hurts worse when I miss it.” I think its gotten into Andruw’s head and he doesnt even think he can produce at the plate
Alex R.
on August 11, 2007 at 5:06 pm
This is all about Andruw looking aheasd for his big pay day this winter and with 2 months (or less now) left in the season, he feels he’s going to hurt himself financially by sitting now.
But the sickening part for many of us is these actions are hurting the Braves.
Bobby has an obligation to sit Andruw and to focus on winning games. Whether Andruw chooses to stay or not is completely incosential. The only thing that matters is winning and scoring runs. Something Andruw being in the lineup is hurting.
But at the very least, Bobby has to move him to the 8th spot where an automatic 4 outs hurt us less.
Rob Copenhaver
on August 11, 2007 at 5:40 pm
Andruw can’t win. He sits, and he loses money. He plays, and everyone hates him for being a strain on the team. He says he doesn’t want to sit because of competitive reasons (“not against these guys”), and people say he’s just BSing so he can stay in the lineup to not hurt him financially. Stinks to be him right now…

I don’t think Andruw’s thinking about money when he says he wants to play. (After all, he gave the Braves a hometown discount the last time he signed a contract.) Rather, I think he knows he’s played below expectations this year (and that’s putting it mildly); he’s competitive and wants a chance to redeem himself when the best thing for both him and the team would be to have him sit for awhile.

Way to go, Willie!
Willie with a “Reyes run” – 1-0
Realistically, I’m sure it’s both…he wants to have a chance both to help the Braves with his bat *and* to land a bigger contract to provide for his great-great-greatgrandkids.
It’s kind of irrelevant. The bottom line is that the Braves should DL him.
sick throw
c’mon willie we need another one here
YARD!
Thanks, Pat.
well, never mind at least we got willie home, c’mon Tex
Burrell’s defense is terrible. His offense though gives him a pass.
Well, hello, Braves offense.
ok lance let’s hope the lead
hold…
LOL, am I the only one that just saw that kid digging for nose nuggets?
we’ll that wasn’t mentioned on the radio lando
Keep it together, Lance.
i give up…my spelling is the pits tonight. more posts after i wake up.
go braves
Watching on mlb.tv, beedee. The camera was on some fans and this kid jammed his finger up his nose and started to go to town.
sweet!
I hope none of his friends were watching that.
6 more long innings to go
I smelled that one. Go Frenchy!
SMURFrey!
Francoeur gets that Rollins run back on the first pitch.
Gasp. Eaton should retire.
c’mon UNI!
Yup, giving up hits to Andruw is a sure sign a pitcher is done.
Good prediction in #6, mraver.
lance hit into a utp
more magic from willie?
LOL, wtf was he doing with two strikes? You are trying to bunt not work the count.
who is this guy pitching to?
Mets up 2-0.
nicely done kelly
DP, keep it up boys
Cormier has officially exceeded expectations. Is it too much to hope for a quality start?
SACK! … sorry wrong game.
lance is begining to lose it
Yep, this is the inning. Get Villarreal up now.
Oh crap.
stop the bleeding bobby…why do you have to wait til the bases are loaded?
We all knew it was coming.
Too late.
Can someone tell me why Cormier was allowed to stay in?
Because Bobby doesn’t feel the bullpen options are any better.
Still in? I would love to know what Bobby is thinking right now.
God, I can’t watch this team anymore.
Riiiiiiiiiiggggggggghhhhhhhht. Even I think the vulture could have done better than this.
Love that back end of the rotation! Just terrible!
Just trying to read the ol’ man’s mind … just because I surmise his reasons why he kept Cormier in doesn’t mean I agree with them.
We’ll be lucky to emerge from this inning tied.
this is rediculous…not even hall & oates can thwart this kind of coaching.
Cormier didn’t even get an out.
Sorry guys. This is all my fault. I just got home and checked the score, and the Phils immediately get 3 runs (and counting). I should have just left well enough alone, and it’d still be 6-1.
Mahay in the 5th? Interesting… I guess he’s the double play guy now that Moylan has to be used in a different situation.
It’s a lefty thing. Mahay’s in to face Howard…got his man too.
Every time our team gets into a pitching-related crisis lately, I keep thinking of a quote from the Naval officer Fred Thompson played in “The Hunt for Red October”:
“This is out of control. This is out of control and we’ll be lucky to live through this.”
L. Ron Mahay does it again. The Braves need to resign this guy, he’d be pretty cheap.
Our Mahavior!
Okay, let’s get some more runs and hold on to this lead, because Mahay really deserves a win for that performance.
Mahay for closer!
It might still be 6-1 if bobby new how to pull a pitcher.
knew*
And even if he’s not cheap, he’s worth some money. I thought his effort against Houston was downright heroic.
i’m in love
Mark Te-who-ra?
The Phillies are like the Retired Closers Home. Base12 and Gordon last night, now Joe Table?
Why take Mahay out?
Yeah, and those old fogies are teaching our batters a thing or two the last two nights.
dude, that gameday photo of prado is scary
that pitch was in another zip code…
I would have let Mahay hit and leave him in for another inning. We need him right now.
3 long innings to go
Well, Villarreal did good against the bottom of the Phillies’ order.
I hope Bobby’s not thinking Moylan-Soriano-Wickman. Because that sounds like a guaranteed loss to me. Villarreal-Unknown-Moylan sounds better. It’s Unknown who scares me.
woodward might be a good setup guy
Willingham homers. Fish up 5-3.
what a bunch of junk Tex
another great inning by oscar, now we need 4 runs here.
19 pitches over two innings. That’s some seriously good pitching right there.
Bunt, Andruw!
Or not.
what a bunt!
Andruw!
Apparently the Mets have tied the game up….
c’mon matt
I’m officially terrified. Maybe Soriano will do his best Kali-from-last-night impersonation.
Soriano pitching out of the stretch now with no one on?
it’s time to make a sacrifice to the baseball gods…jubu, here’s your refill!
jobu…oh on i’ve cursed us for sure
Poor Soriano.
Soriano gives up a homer every time he comes in now?
crap…bobby DL this poor guy.
Soriano strikes again!
God, Soriano is so predictably awful now.
Can we please DL this guy already? We have good replacements in Richmond.
Ouch! KJ’s previous play looks even better…
Soriano is continuing to make the 8th an adventure…
Poor Braves fans.
I miss Mike Gonzalez.
Marlins up by 2!
I miss Kerry Ligtenberg.
Marlins up 7-5 over Mets.
Miguel Cabrera puts the Fish up 7-5.
I miss Steve Karsay.
I miss… Brad Clontz? No… no I don’t.
Florida just picked up 2 runs…
Kerry Ligtenberg yes….
Eh. He recovered. Three more runs = Reitsma room. Let’s do it!
that’s 11 dingers in 52 innings for Soriano.
wow.
stu,
according to the little lady. my testicles have cleared waivers but are no longer available for trade, however i would donate blood if it helps the cause.
I hope Harris does not get any base stealing ambitions….
Thanks Durbin.
well, this looks good. We really need to put this out of reach now.
I just checked in again and see Soriano gave up a homer. What’s new? Oh, Andruw doubled? And got an RBI that could be big? Amazing…
forgot to close the tabs. Sorry.
Let’s not get our hopes up just yet…
Crap.
Damnit, Tex. Andruw could have done that. Pathetic.
PITIFUL.
We’re amazing.
This thing with the Braves and runners on third with less than two outs not scoring is getting really absurd.
That’s the 2nd time this week we’ve had the bases loaded and haven’t scored.
PLAYOFF teams don’t behave that way.
excellent!
9th inning, bases loaded, our big hitters up….dejavu…
Another lost opportunity…
We are the only team that can consistently get bases loaded with no outs and not score one run…
let me add…bases loaded tis week, twice, and NOBODY OUT.
Ouch. We’re pretty horrid at this bases loaded stuff.
We’re like the Replacements of baseball.
wickmania??
Come on Belly get them OUT!!!!!!!
It starts….
This team, to me, is as frustrating, in a different way than the mid 80s Braves.
Take Wickman out, NOW.
Our 9th looks even bigger….
One out.
stop the madness
2 more….
Inauspicious start, I’d say.
Get Moylan in there.
heh, I want to hear Wickman say “Get in mah bella” with a scottish accent.
One more. Come on Wickman.
Fat Bastard, perfect nickname for Wick.
Wickmania!
Can we breath again?
Yeah, I don’t think I would call Wickman Fat Bastard to his face…
Oh me of little faith. Bob is just blue collar.
Fat Bastard with the save!
thank god!
Yeah! Wickmania Returns!
Rob, it’s a joke from a movie. Relax.
lando,
i’ll stick with Butterbean
Now our attention turns to Shea.
wow…a Wick road save. Go figure.
Go Marlins, now.
I know what movie it’s from…
I listened to that entire game on the radio. With my ADD, I didn’t know I had it in me. Washing my car in the process helped, I guess…
i that his first save on the road since the break?
Millings fly out…1 out in he 9th. 2 more, fish!
Beedee, hahaha I like that one even better.
2 out
fly out by Castro–2 out….
get this creep out
Mets lose, sweet.
yes—way to go Kevin Gregg!
I love the marlins.
sweet, way to go fish!
The sky must be falling over on the mets blogs. 😀
Yeah Mets blogs are probably a good read.
Even riding to the airport (from Connecticut to JFK) I had to listen to local NY radio. They just kept complaining about the Mets…and that was Friday morning…
