ESPN – Braves vs. Dodgers Box Score, July 5 2007 – MLB

So much for pitching duels. Tim Hudson only went three, Brad Penny only went four, and both gave up six runs. The Braves scored three in the second, only to give two back in the bottom of the inning. The Dodgers then, thanks partially to some awful defense, scored four runs to take a 6-4 lead. The Braves came back to tie at 6-6, and that was it for the starting pitchers.

As happened a couple of nights ago, once the bullpens got involved things settled down and neither team could do much. Finally, Chipper struck in the sixth inning with a solo homer, tying Dale Murphy’s Atlanta career record. In the eighth, Chipper hit another one to break the record. The bullpen made it stand up, and the Braves got a split in the series.

Moylan pitched two innings and got the win, allowing two hits and striking out one. Paronto, Ledezma, and Soriano went an inning apiece, followed by Wickman needing only four pitches in the ninth for the save.

Five different Braves — Renteria, Chipper, KJ, Francoeur, and Saltalamacchia — had two hits. Andruw was hitless, thereby ending the world’s worst hitting streak at seven. Both teams left eleven men on base.
